I've worked in the movie business arranging the "on screen" vehicles for films, primarily 50's cars, for many years. Maybe you remember "Great Balls of Fire"? I do own a MOPAR, a '55 Windsor wagon I purchased after using it in "Walk The Line."

I have a new project being filmed in and around Memphis, TN beginning the 3rd week of July. The script calls for one of the character's cars to be a 1970 Dodge Colt. If you, or someone you know owns a 1970 Dodge Colt in the Memphis area and would like to see it in a movie, please respond. Thanks!

Colts did not come out until the '71 model year. Do you mean any '70s model? Here is a '71.

I wish I had a '71 Colt. I had to settle for a '69 Toyota Corona for my commuter car instead. Fuel injected 22RE, 5speed, 8" Ford rear, 38mpg. Anyone want to trade their good running colt for it?

hall's movie would not be the first one to feature a Mitsu mini in it.

Remember the appearance of the Noisy Cricket in a certain black-humour moovie?

I object, your Honor ! Referring to any japanese-made "Dodge" is a misuse of proper
terminology. I move to have this testimony stricken from the record.

The '71-'73 Plymouth Cricket was a British Hillman product (Chrysler owned)

Imagine trading in your wasted Forwardlook for a brand new Colt/Cricket/Corona. What a change. (Actually, my dad did something similar in '72). What a somber moment (except the better fuel economy).

These little cars definitely have their place though. There is no way I would be able to commute 90 miles in LA traffic everyday with a forwardlook car. But these little guys are made for just that. I only wish American manufacturers made some of these things in the '60-'73 year range so I could have a better selection to choose from. The A-bodys are about as close as Chrysler ever came to it, but they aren't quite small enough for this purpose. My Corona weighs less than 2100 lbs so it gets 38mpg with the newer motor (from a '93 Toyota pickup) without even trying hard.

I actually bought one of these Captive imports new. I bought a 1977 Plymouth Arrow GT with 2 litre 4 cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. It was a slick looking car and it was very quick. I held on to it for 5 years until I traded it for a 1982 Dodge 400 2-door couipe (based on the K-car platform)

I actually had little trouble with it. The only time it let me down was in 1979 when it developed a fault with the fuiel pump and caused the oil pressure to fall drastically as the oil leaked out of the engine. I had to have it repaired in Kingman, AZ (I was on a drive to Los Angeles) and the Chrysler-Plymouth dealer had to order the part from Phoenix as he didn't have one in stock. He also screwed up the order and had the distributor send a fuel pump for the 1.6 liter by mistake instead of the 2.0 liter and I had to wait an extra day for the right part to be sent from the warehouse. The dealer was properly apologetic of course.

The only factory recall I remember it had was the gas tank straps which had to be replaced by better made straps. The factory straps put on in Japan had the tendancy of rusting out if the car was being used in northern states that used a lot of salt to melt snow and ice on the road in the winter. Since I was living in Wisconsin at the time the straps had to go.

It was a pretty little red car as I remember. The sheet metal was pretty thin though and had already started rusting out by the time I traded it in.

In Eureka, California there stands a fabulous corner towered Victorian house that is utterly stunning.
It was built as a wedding present for the son of Wm. Carson, a local lumber baron. This house would
be the focal point on any street, anywhere in America, except it just happens to sit across the street
from Wm. Carson's home .... arguably one of the grandest Victorian homes ever built and certainly
ranking amongst those that survive.

I keep a book on Victorian homes where the architect/author comments that the son's home is such
a stunning example, until you turn 90 degrees on your heels and it is suddenly made to look like an
over-adorned wood shed.

That's pretty much how I see cars after the 61 Chrysler stopped production. There are lots and lots
of cars where one could argue "This is a great car !" and it almost holds water. That is, until you turn
around and there sits a 57 NY'er coupe. And now you see that "great car" for what it really is. Heck,
I thought those Miradas and early 80's Imperials were pretty cool (at the time). And I still think they
have some attractive lines. But add in the mechanicals and maintenance and parts availabilty .....
... they don't hold a candle to a nice Forward Look car !

Not sure if it is Depression-era survivor's mentality that has rubbed off on me, but I suffer/enjoy a
strong sense of only keeping around what I truly need and want and the rest gets mentally X'd from
my brain as stuff "other people" can fix and fuss over. Even the best cars from the post-FL era don't
rank for me. I only have so much space and time and money. I have to be selective.
