There is a car just like this one here in town, but I didn't want to post photos without the owner's permission (it was in an indoor, private storage facility): Edited by FIN ME 2013-02-11 9:51 AM (BUICK2.jpg) (BUICK3.jpg) (BUICK.jpg) Attachments ---------------- BUICK2.jpg (264KB - 204 downloads) BUICK3.jpg (255KB - 198 downloads) BUICK.jpg (215KB - 214 downloads)

Location: Parts Unknown | My friend Tom has a red 54 Skylark, given to him by his father, who won it as a sales promo prize. See, Tom's dad owned the Buick dealership in Ellensburg, Washington. If memory serves, Tom was 16 when Dad gave him the car. Hard to imagine that, isn't it ? A sixteen-year-old kid driving his own, brand new Skylark around like the King of the World. As an aside, if I understand this correctly, FL member Alan Faltus was related to the family that owned the same town DeSoto dealership. I still have the 1944 vintage air compressor from Tom's Dad's dealership in my shop. Works like a champ.

Location: Parts Unknown | This thread is about finding old cars of all makes in non-collector type settings ... fields, alleys, going down the road, etc. No issues with non-FL talk. It is preferred, but not mandatory. The Skylark came out in 1953 as a modified Roadmaster convertible. I think about 1600 were built. In 54, it was a stand-alone car with a common Buick nose. Just shy of 900 were built and the idea was not revived for 55.

Location: Parts Unknown | The Falcon Sprint was a mid-year offering for the 1963 model cars. The package included front bucket seats, 4bbl/dual exhaust 260 V-8, beefier springs and brakes, wider wheels/tires, and a choice of C4 (?) or 4-speed manual transmission. Location: Parts Unknown | I briefly owned a sweet little 63 Sprint ragtop. Bought it from a friend of my then girlfriend for the whopping sum of $250. A nice, solid car, the drivetrain and chassis was a cheap and easy rebuild. Got it repainted and new interior and hardly had it finished and some guy offered me stupid money and it went away. I did some research way back when and was pulling from memory, but I am pretty sure that is good intel. I am certain that 63 was the first year.

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Though I had no way to take a photo of it, last Friday morning I saw a 56 T-bird go by on Route 213 in Langhorne, PA when I looked up. It stopped me right in my tracks like a UFO. Turquoise with a white metal top, looked absolutely beautiful in the sea of bland cars. I was born in 1984 so rarely have I seen 50s cars driving down the road out of the blue like that.

Location: Parts Unknown | I was kind of an odd duck and continued to use my skateboard, bus, bicycle, long after I had a car. A bus pass proved much less expensive to operate than my car/s in college ! So, I found myself sitting at bus stops awaiting the next to come along, and came up with a counting game to play with myself, where I pitted decades against each other as I counted the cars going by. Remember, this was the late 70's / early 80's. Anyway, I'd count all the 50's cars as one "team", same for the 60's, and the 70's. Believe it or not, there were times when the 50's and 60's were a dead heat. Of course, the newer 70's cars overwhelmed, ..... until I took foreign cars out of the equation. Then it was pretty close. As time went by, I re-engineered the game to a handicap system where a 70's car was worth one point, a 60's car got two, and a 50's car got 3. This way, the 50's cars often won out. Hard to believe today. You hardly ever see them just on the road as drivers anymore.

The Father of my good friend Worked at a Ford dealership and he ordered a brandy new one Rose beige exterior - black interior- 4 speed . First thing it got was baby moon hupcaps and Smitty mufflers. It ran like a striped a**ed ape! It would beat a 327 Impala with 4 speed until right at the end of a 1/4 mile..........................MOThe Falcon Sprint was a mid-year offering for the 1963 model cars. Location: Parts Unknown | I guess a 63 Sprint ragtop was a pretty scarce survivor, as the guy who offered me stupid money for it about flipped when he saw it. I wasn't into Falcons or Fords. It was just an easy restoration at a very cheap entry price, so I got it. Mine was a medium blue metallic with blue interior and blue top - not real attractive in my book. I think I had all of 4K into the car (plus my time) and he offered me 10 straight up. When I hesitated, he upped it to 12. I might have milked it, but that seemed like a douchebag thing to do. He was so genuinely tickled to find one (at any price). I felt it wrong to try and work him on it. I find the earlier Falcons a bit dowdy, and the 64-65 just not my bag. The later ones are just awful. 63 had it perfect.
