Expert Posts: 3070 Location: Scotland | Windsor59 - 2012-11-17 3:38 PM vedette - 2012-11-17 3:00 PM California 1971,is that a '57 Dodge CRL or a '58 Spring Special on the top of the pile above the '60 Dodge Wagon? Oh Wow what with "nice" cars. Seeing a 1959 New Yorker white in the middle In the windows reflect even more cars that should be without the picture on the right side. Do you have more pictures? Location: Parts Unknown | Years ago I worked in a restoration shop. The owner was big into Pontiacs. Basically anything from 55 to 70, as long as it was a big body - no GTO / LeMans cars. I tipped him off about a 67 Catalina convertible I knew of, and we went out for a look and he bought it. The engine was toast, but it was a decent original car, so he rebuilt the engine, cleaned it up, and - horrors ! ..... put it back together with those ugly-ass dog dish hubcaps ! I could not believe he'd do that to such a nice car. That was 1983. Funny what 30 years will do to your outlook ! Now, I see a fancier car in lo-bux trim and dog dishies, and it makes my day. It's something different. It tells a story. It's not typical. I'll bet a person would be hard put to find a 57-59 Dodge today that was restored as a dog dish car ... especially a sexy 2 door hardtop. I do not think I have ever seen one. I am positive that I've never seen a DeSoto or Chrysler with dog dishies outside of old photos or the sales brochures. Cool stuff. Thanks for posting, Dave.

Doc, I'm glad you liked the pic, and you got me thinking about a set of steel wheels and dog dish caps for the Desoto conv for a change instead of the wires. I bet that would turn some heads. And then, if I converted it to a stick.........

I bet that would turn some heads. And then, if I converted it to a stick......... ======================================================= I kept the Adventurer wheelcovers from my old car when I sold it. Not sure how I will do it, ... get in touch with one of these wheel mfr's and dial in the details ? .. but I want to make up a set of 15" wheels that will fit the 58 Adventurer wheelcovers (to replace the wires). I like the wires, but with what seems like every last FL ragtop getting fitted with them these days, In typical form, I want to go another direction. It has always been my plan to convert to a stick, but without the column shift ... instead, using the 60 floor shifter I saved from my old Fireflite. If you restored your car back as a Firedome, it would be well within reason to outfit it with dog dishies (see below). Rare as hell, but it was done on occasion. I'd want to see period photos of a Fireflite or Adventurer (56-59) to buy off on somebody actually deleting the fancy wheelcovers on a top model car back in the day. I have photos of a turquoise monotone 57 Firedome ragtop that I regrettably did not buy that was a stick car with dog dishies. There must have been a GREAT story behind that build. It's a hairdoo that I got off Facebook, in my hometown area. And no, that is not my mom, thank you very much. She never had a big bouffant like that one and didn't like them. We had a '56 Belvy in the same color as that '57 in the picture.

Location: Parts Unknown | That is one highly polished 57 Belvedere ! Note the kid "riding" the fin. Doesn't seem too comfortable to me. The blackwalls with full wheelcovers on a fancy-pants Belvie look like black dress socks with sandals and shorts, but by golly, it sure is clean and shiny !!!

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The "On Vacation" photos, above, were taken on the Whitney Portals Road, west of Lone Pine, CA, with Mt. Whitney being seen in the very middle of the top photo. The middle photo was probably taken with the car being parked about 1/2 way up the grade, tight up against the mountainside. There is a campsite at the portals (El. 8,000'); the last photo may have been taken there. Edited by d500neil 2012-11-27 7:08 PM
