Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Hi-jacking my own thread, but-what-the-hell; it's all been said, by now, about WHY you should be in Beautiful Downtown Tulsa, between 6/12-18/07. In addition to having the Mother of All Forwardlooking Cars Convention, @ the Doubletree, why not arrange to have a swap meet, there? I know that I've got a lot of small/unique parts that wouldn't take up much trunk space---not that I wouldn't bring them, anyway---but, as I'm a notably 'soft' touch, on the parts that I've given away, to-date (in comparison to the feeding-frenzy, on Epay) I'm thinking that I'll apply price-stickers, to the items, before I leave home, to avoid 'embarrassment ' when a nice friendly face might ask me how-much I wanted for my slightly used PLY grille medallion,. Expert Posts: 1363 Location: Apeldoorn, Netherlands | Okay! I'm finally in too! Had some problems making my reservation, from here (Netherlands), but Neil took care of that. Thank you Neil! I'll be there 6/12 - 6/16, in a double room too, so..., if anyone's looking for company overnight... LOL !! I AM seriously considering shipping my car (back) to be able to drive to Tulsa, for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Really looking forward to that 'Swap Meet' Neil been talking about. But off course mostly looking forward to seeing that Plymouth being unearthed. Hope we get a good sight of it, and as a forward look era club are permitted a little more then the usual crowd... And last but not least meeting you all there! I've met with some FWDLKers, when I'm cruising the US, and that has always been very special to me. Can't wait...

This is just a thought but it would be cool driving down the highway in a group of forward look cars. Any thoughts. I'm located in Fairfield, about 15-20 miles north of Cincinnati.

On the other hand, it would be nice to know from what direction must of us are coming, thus making it possible for me to aim for a certain port. Because it doesn't have to be on the east coast at all. In facts I'm no aiming at Tacoma WA.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 406 Location: Voss,Norway | Jim If you are gonna ship your car over i would have prefered to ship it to either the eastcoast or California cause if you are shipping it to Tacoma it will go via Japan. My -57 did when i shipped it the other way and i was told by the shipping company when i was going to ship my Grand Wagoneer that i bought in Portland,OR that the boats that ships out of Tacoma doesnt go true the Panama canal but all the way around so it will take longer time and cost you more. Correct me if i am wrong but thats what they said to me. My Wagoneer was picked up in Portland and trailerd down to LA and shipped out from there with Scumacher Cargo. Just to let you know. I can imagine that a longer trips costs more. But actually, I don't mind which route they take, as long as the price is okay. Shipping my car from Seattle WA, was actually cheaper then shipping from the east coast. Right now, I am investigating the best way to ship my car, roll-on roll-off. If anybody is interested, I'd gladly make arrangements! There's nothing in it for me and it doesn't get any cheaper, just like to go with as many as possible! I look at it as a once-in-your-lifetime experience.

I am urging people to arrive as early as possible, that week, like, on TUES 6/12/07, and to stay thru SAT nite 6/16/07, as the Town of Tulsa is "supposedly" planning some sort of 50's dance/concert event, that nite. Arriving as early as possible allows people to enjoy the environs, and all the other Forwardlooking Folks, in attendance! This event will probably produce the largest single-gathering of FDLK'ers in the history of Exnership! If Jim Hoekendijk can "DRIVE" his car, to Tulsa, from the Netherlands(!!), what 'excuse' does anyone else, "here", have, in not attending????????

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | As I posted on the FWDLK's daily List Server, today, the 12/06 issue of Hemmings Clasic Car arrived yesterday, and, on page 8 therein, there is a nice mini-article, w/a couple pics of Virgil, being interred! At the risk of incurring an Attaboy, I DID initially contact Hemmings, Motor Trend Classics, & Collectable Automobile, and informed them of this clam-bake, for "media-coverage" thereon, & referred them to the Doubletree and to the Tulsarama Comittee. The magazines all said that, around November, each year, they sit down & plan-out their show-schedules, etc. I mentioned, in an earlier posting, that our foreign members should contact THEIR publications (like : the English "American Classic", and other, Scandanavian pub's) , & inform them of this event, & to invite THEIR attendance/coverage! Sooo, it looks like non-FWDLK'ers will now begin to get involved in the festivities, and, making reservations @ the 'Tree !!

Next day: who knows? car-avan to Stroud, for the day, & eat dindin @ a nice up-scale restaurant, in Tulsa. THUR: bedlam/keep your head 'down'; late-comers arriving; mass-confusion. FRI: well, we kinda know what's going down, then. SAT, Tulsa's got some activities planned. SUN: go HOME!!

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Dick, and others, who may be looking for an easy way to increase the efficiency of your engines, I THINK that Alumcan posted a photo-exhibit on how I easily mounted/ adapted an "XJ"-series JAG viscous fan clutch to 'our' cars.---the posting should be somewhere on the website's 'mechanical' threads, as listed on its home page. Jag 'clutches' are (surprisingly) not expensive (about $45.00) and relatively easy to obtain. MOST fan clutches are 3" in overall 'width', and I dunno about CHRY/IMP clearances, between the radiator, and the water pump, but the Jag is 2 1/2" wide, and DOES fit Dodge & Plymouth applications. The center mounting 'cavity', on the Jag does need to have a brass bushing be pressed into it, so that a tight-fit, to the water pump's 'nub' can be made. Also, the Jag's mounting-bolt holes need to be cut-out, to form "slots", but that is a no-brainer. a multi-blade fan should also be installed. If anyone is interested to see how cool my 57 D500 runs (with its retro-fitted liquid-cooled trannie, and viscous fan clutch) , check out the pics, on "Member's Rides" forum, under "Road Trip" !!!

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Doubletree National Reservation number : 1-800-222-8733 (you must reference "our" code-name :"FOR"; or "Forwardlook" , depending whom you speak with) to receive our special $89.00/nite rate, for the week of 6/11-18/07. and reference the DOWNTOWN/7th Street Doubletree location. The "local" number, for the 'Tree, is: 918-587-8000 (& you still gotta reference "Forwardlook" , to get our "room-rate-deal". If you have any problemos, with reserving a room, please ask to speak with Ms. Pamela Mayhue, the reservations Honchess. Please try to arrive on Tuesday, if possible ! And Saturday sounds like a Fun-day, too.

The Doubletree advises that there are ONLY about 50-ish rooms still available, for TUES-WED, IN THE ENTIRE HOTEL, but, that it WOULD honor "our" $89.00 rate for those nites. For THUR-SAT, IN THE ENTIRE HOTEL (officially) there are TEN rooms available, BUT (officially) they would be available @ the standard $129.00/nite rate. HOWEVER, depending upon the abject-ness of your pleading (AND, subject to the probable-approval,by the Hotel's Director) you MIGHT be able to receive the group's $89.00/nite rate, for THUR-SAT. There are apparently "church" and wedding groups, that have block-booked rooms @ the Doubletree (but NOT @ our Cheapo-$89buk rate! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED......

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Wellll, Ms. Mayhue informs me, today, that there are a total of 231 room-nites "reserved" under the code name "Forwardlook" (and, under "FOR", for the Doubletree's national reservation service???---not clear about that, Ms. Mayhue was 'late' , for a meeting.) How many "cars", that number translates-to; my guess: about 75. HOWEVER: "our" reservations are SEPARATE from the PLY Owners Club, and, as "we" are not affliated with 'them', Ms. Mayhue was not at liberty to divulge their intended participation/attendance, at Tusarama-ding-dong. Figure at least another 75 Plymmies, from them, and one can assume that it should be NOT boring, that week. AND, some people may be staying in/at Stroud, OK, and/or lodging elsewhere, or commuting to/from Tulsa, or "reserving" NOT under "Forwardlook", so, it should be FUN! When will there ever be a unique-dedicated gathering of ONLY FWDLK cars, again????

I had done that at Mid West WPC national meets; once there, it wasn't fun not to brag on my missing ride, but I certainly enjoyed experiencing all the other member's rides. Clive Reeve, above, and others, have over-booked rooms, so, even tho the 'Tree may be "booked", now, I'm SURE that Clive could be talked into 'referring' his extra room, to you (OR TO ANYONE ELSE who reads this, & contacts him "first" ).
