Location: Louisiana | I found this set of wheelcovers in the trunk of a '58 DeSoto. I'm very sure that these don't belong with the car. With the conical shape and black trim boxes around the edge, they look a bit like '57 Plymouth wheel covers. However, the indented scallops set these apart. I couldn't find any part #'s. Can anyone identify these wheelcovers?
Thanks!
Justin

Location: North West Jorsey | Had one. That's how I knew. Mine was a Bronze Convertible. Used to chase them damned wheel covers all over the place! God I wish I had it now. That was 30 years ago! Damn-it!
BTW I believe 59 was the first year for the Fury Name Plate. I'll bet that SOB would be worth a fortune now! Had the simulated spare well on the trunk lid, bucket seats. Mine was a Poly something, don't recall for sure. The Distributor was in the back

Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | I believe the Fury nameplate debuted on the 1956 model. There was a nice article in the WPC Club Magazine about this a few years ago. One of the distinguishing features of the Fury was the gold colored anodized aluminum panel in the fin. Nice cars and worth a premium over the standard offerings for that year (Plaza, Savoy, etc.) |

| Those are 1959 Plymouth wheel covers. They were used on all models of the '59 Plymouth, including the top of the line "Sport Fury" which was introduced that year. For '56, '57, and '58, there was only one Fury model and it was a very special car with dual carbs, gold side trim, 150 MPH speedometer etc. Starting in 1959 you could get a "plain" Fury or a Sport Fury, the latter having a whole host of trim upgrades, swivel seats, "toilet seat" deck lid, etc., but a little less emphasis on performance. Also for the first time, the Sport Fury was available in a convertible. Some folks think that the only "real" Furys were the '56 thru '58 Models, but I own both a '58 Fury and a '59 Sport Fury, and they are both fine cars!! |
