I just received my "sneak peek" with Hemmings. The forward-look cars shown in the brochure were:

1954 Dodge Firearrow II - yellow
1954 Dodge Firearrow IV - red
1956 DeSoto Fireflyte convertible - red and white
1961 Chrysler 300G coupe - bronze
1961 Chrysler 300G convertible - red
1959 Chrysler Windsor station wagon - light blue
1958 Plymouth sport coupe "Christine" recreation
1959 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible - yellow
1955 Chrysler Windsor coupe - red
1959 DeSoto Adventurer convertible - black
1960 Chrysler 300F coupe - red

Does anybody on this forum attend these auctions? Is anybody planning to go?

The piece-de-resistance? A 1930 Duesenberg J Arlington Sedan. It would probably be worth the drive to see that car!

I believe Larry Jett has his '61 Dart Phoenix 4-dr sedan D-500 cross-ram there as well.
I'd like to go sometime, but I really don't trust myself.

A quick look on the website showed the following additions:

1959 Imperial convertible - no photo
1959 DeSoto Firesweep convertible - red
1956 Dodge Coronet D-500 club sedan - red and white
1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer coupe - "Golden Lancer"
1960 Dodge Polara D-500 convertible - red

Still no sign of the 1961 D-500, but there is still a lot of time left. Joe, that 1960 Dodge is a Ram Induction long-ram.

Howdy, Joe:

I caught Larry Jett's post on the list-serv. I don't know how I missed that on the web page. For anyone who doesn't get the list-serv:

Dan C, our finest correspondent from Spanaway, accurately points out a 61 D500 Ram Sedan at Barrett-Jackson. Number 332 about 3:00 on Wednesday. I shall be watching carefully how well it does on the block.....in fact, I'll be in it driving it for its new owner to peruse. It is a bit scary for a novice to let some pros sell ones pride and joy at no reserve but the market will decide what "DodgeDifferent" has as a value in this over heated market. I've always said my Phoenix is the past century's version of the Pontiac Aztec but possibly its wackiness is its strength. I do have time slips from Half Moon Bay drag strip dated Oct 1961 showing a 15.12 et. Not bad for a pure stocker with amateurs driving. Should you know any rich guys that want a complete Mopar collection instead of just a so-so collection, point them to the car circus in January.

I'm proud to say I think we are a little ahead of the list-serv on our regional page. Let's keep it that way!

Thanks, Dave. Links are great!

Joe:

I probably won't make the trip to Scottsdale. I think I will focus my car "hall-pass" efforts on the tri-state swap meet and Tulsa-rama 2007. I have seen prices for B-J auctions before and they are typically very high. Not much point in going down there for me - even if I saw something I wanted, I probably couldn't pull the trigger!

here are some of the results:

1954 Dodge Firearrow II - yellow $1,100,000
1954 Dodge Firearrow IV - red $1,100,000
1956 DeSoto Fireflyte convertible - red and white $79,200
1961 Chrysler 300G coupe - bronze $82,500
1961 Chrysler 300G convertible - red $140,800
1959 Chrysler Windsor station wagon - light blue $38,500
1958 Plymouth sport coupe "Christine" recreation $37,400
1959 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible - yellow $62,700
1955 Chrysler Windsor coupe - red $29,150
1959 DeSoto Adventurer convertible - black $253,000
1960 Chrysler 300F coupe - red $86,240
1959 Imperial convertible - no photo $151,200
1959 DeSoto Firesweep convertible - red $319,200
1956 Dodge Coronet D-500 club sedan - red and white $18,700
1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer coupe - "Golden Lancer" $126,500
1960 Dodge Polara D-500 convertible - red $179,200
1961 Dodge Dart D500 Ram Sedan $27,500

Put that in your pipe and smoke it! I honestly don't know where all that money comes from. The ones that stick out to me are the $126.5K '55 Dodge, the 151.2K '59 Imperial, the '59 DeSoto Convertibles (that cost as much as houses), and a $37K Plymouth! Definitely no "bargains" happening there. On the plus side, it is good to see a couple of million dollar forward look cars. That must be a misprint on the '59 DeSoto Firesweep convertible.

Keep in mind the posted results include the 8% buyer's premium and are not the hammer prices.

Howdy, H-Bomb!

So the hammer price on the '56 Dodge D-500 club coupe was $17,315 and then whoever bought it paid an extra $1,385 (8% of $17,315) to Barrett-Jackson for a total price of $18,700? Interesting! I guess that is something to bear in mind, but out-of-pocket, the buyers still paid the full listed price, right?

Thanks,
Mike

Right, they paid all of it. Plus they had to buy a $500 bidder's pass to get in there in the first place!

Geez! An extra $500 just to bid! How's that for a nice little kick in the gonads? I wonder if after all the bidding is done and the smoke clears, some of these people come to their senses and flee the scene! It sounds like the world's worst way to buy a car.

I bet Barrett-Jackson is smart enough not to monkey with the title price either. Just imagine coming back to your home state and paying taxes. Ouch! Talk about a gang probe!

Keep in mind the posted results include the 8% buyer's premium and are not the hammer prices.

Actually the buyer's premium went up to 10% this year, and the cost of the red De Soto was $319,200 instead of $313,500, because the winner bid by phone, and had to pay 12% premium.

Tony, I'm glad you clarified that 8% versus 10%. It sure seemed odd that they would take a bid of $17,315 or whatever it was, for that Chrysler. You would expect the bidding to flow along in $50 or $100 increments. $1 increments? Only a penny-pincher like me would enjoy that.
