Expert Posts: 2309 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Well, Ohio has a YOM licence plate statute on the books, but I doubt some collector would have made the mistake of putting 1964 tags on a 1957 car. The picture was taken in 1964, seven years after the car was built and it is in pretty amazing shape. The car doesn't exhibit any of the usual rust issues that one would expect for a seven year old car in the rust belt so maybe it wasn't used year around. I wonder if it's still in existence somewhere? P.S.: Did you notice there is a child behind the wheel? Somebody's son and heir I daresay, but probably in his 50s now. Call me a DeSoto snob, but we all know what a real 57-58 DeSoto looks like. Cobbing a DeSoto bumper onto a Dodge nose that is hung on a Plymouth does not a DeSoto make !

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Ray Bell - 2015-04-05 8:06 AM Canadian? Export - DeSoto Diplomat. Take a Plymouth body, Firesweep front end, DeSoto nameplates and emblems, and you have a DeSoto Diplomat. Built in Canada and the U.S. for various export markets, such as South America, Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. Canadians got the Firedome and Fireflite models, all imported from Detroit. Canadian production of real 1957 DeSoto models came to a big zero. In 1958 and 1959 the Firedome sedans and hardtops were built in Canada, while the Firedome convertible and all Fireflite and Adventurer models were imported. The Firesweep, with its DeSoto grille and Dodge front end, was never sold in Canada. Edited by Chrycoman 2015-04-05 2:27 PM

Cobbing a DeSoto bumper onto a Dodge nose that is hung on a Plymouth does not a DeSoto make ! Hey snobby, I can't stop laughing.. The major reason for the DeSoto Diplomat production was to help overseas DeSoto dealers to sell cars in a lower price class. There were not compact cars offered until the 60's. What's wrong with it? Historically, they were very interesting models. Regular DeSoto Firedomes and Fireflites were expensive cars abroad; in a whole different class than in the USA. Other countries were not as rich in economy than USA back then... If you can't stand export models, what does it hurt when you cannot see them around you? Edited by spinout 2015-04-06 3:58 AM

What difference did it make to juggle the front end sheet metal and badging to a guy in Turkey, Brazil, or Guam ? He just wanted a basic car. The malfunction was the thinking on this end. Selling a donkey to someone and telling them it's an elephant .... what's wrong with this picture ? I know it is long over and done and history at this point, but something is just not right with how the game was played. Calling them "export" models doesn't make it right. It's a philosophical and ethical question. Not so much about the cars themselves, but about how the business was done.

What difference did it make to juggle the front end sheet metal and badging to a guy in Turkey, Brazil, or Guam ? He just wanted a basic car. Actually, it wasn't so easy.. For example, here in Finland, DeSoto had different importer and dealer network than Chrysler & Plymouth. DeSotos were imported by Berner and Laatuvaunu imported Chryslers-Plymouths. Dodge had own importer: Autokeskus - Bilcentralen. The DeSoto Diplomats helped Berner's network to sell DeSotos in lower price class and Dodge Kingsway did Autokeskus. Laatuvaunu had already Plymouths, so no separate export models needed there. The export models were not all like bottom price Plazas. They were in three different equipment levels: "basic", Deluxe and Custom. So, Diplomat was equivalent to Plaza, Diplomat Deluxe to Savoy and Diplomat Custom to Belvedere.

Chrysler Corp. created its own mess indeed, by not even having the same dealer network for the different brands. In France, we had 3, like the Finnish case mentioned above: the one selling Plymouths, Chryslers and Imperials, the one selling DeSotos and the one selling Dodges. Even the importers of the cars were different: France Motors for Plymouth/Chrysler/Imperial, and Roblou for DeSotos (I don't recall who imported Dodges). That is why we could see a DeSoto Diplomat, a Dodge Kingsway and a Plymouth Savoy on the same market. The same car, under 3 different badges.

It was more efficient way for marketing Chrysler Corp. cars abroad to have different importers and dealer networks for the different brands. The result we had a wide range of cars available. It's a free marketing economy in the western hemisphere. If there was an order to sell just Plymouth Plazas, it smells like a planned economy.. Edited by spinout 2015-04-07 2:14 PM

The funny thing is the glamorous names for the "el cheapo cars". That said, there's a '59 all black Dodge Kingsway 4DS in town that last was registred in '77 if I recall correctly. The car has a high wanna have factor, but the owner just refuses to sell.......

If I go with the mouse pointer to the middle of the picture I desire and click the RH button then a context menue appears. In the middle there is the option "save image as". If you choose this option an explorer like window opens and you could choose the destination as well as to change the name of the pictures. At me it works even with Windows 8.1 and Firefox 37.0. At evil pay sometimes I have to search a little bit to find the "blind spot" where the same context menue appears. Then it's the same story, just in another color...
I wish good luck!

If you do a screenshot of it you'll have the picture as well as whatever else is on the screen... Just crop in to the pic and save. (I assume you know how to do a screen print? If not, or if others don't, you'll find 'print screen' or an abbreviation thereof on one of the buttons, typically near your 'delete' button. You hit that button simultaneously with the 'Alt' or 'Ctrl' key and it copies either whatever's on your screen in total or whatever's in the window that's open to your clipboard. Open your picture viewer - and if you have Irfanview it's the easiest of all - and paste to that.) Edited by Ray Bell 2015-04-07 11:14 PM

Expert Posts: 2482 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | See the descriptions above... Right click, left click on 'Save image as' and direct to your memory stick where you might well set up a folder or folders for the purpose. You will be wise (and it will definitely be necessary in some cases) to assign a new file name to each picture, I would recommend that you use the poster's name in that in case there's ever some cause to refer to him. I would also recommend you go through and crop out the areas that haven't been cropped by the poster, like the one recently posted with some inches of black top and bottom of the actual picture. Do you have Irfanview? It's a free download and makes all this stuff very easy. Edited by Ray Bell 2015-04-08 6:10 PM

For those web sites that disable the right click feature such as EvilPay, you can usually get around this by using the snipping tool on Windows machines.Use it to snip the image and then save the snip to the desktop or to any other folder you choose. Saving a screenshot by holding down simultaneously the CTRL + PRTSCN buttons with do the same thing. If you paste the screenshot into Paint you can then manipulate the image and save only the part of it you want. If all else fails, you could take a digital picture of your screen with a camera I suppose as was suggested elsewhere and save it to your computer with your camera software.
