I believe it to be a Fireflite

The sweep was optional on all sedans for 56. The domes had the same basic chrome line but without the flare starting on the front door heading to the rear

Good intel on the single sweep. Still, I cannot EVER recall seeing a Fireflite
trimmed this way. Even on Firedomes, it is rare. But on an upline Fireflite ?
Few ever opted this way.

Doc, I went and talked to this guy about his Invicta. Nice 86 year old. Don't think he will ever finish it. He is shocked at how much paint jobs cost. It has 75k miles. Pretty clean car. It was his father in laws car. I have always enjoyed talking to older people and hearing their stories. Has all the chrome. Non ps and pb. Non air. 59 Invicta. Kind of a cool looking car. Sorry I'm posting a non forward look car.

Looking at that highly manipulated advertising illustration (don't call it a photograph) , above, you can almost hear that
prototype car rattling, and see it rusting, and leaking-away.

Check out its 1957 rear view mirror('s) location.

59 Buicks get honorary Forward Look status for GM. I give FOMOCO
honors for their 60 Starliner design as well.

Pix of your 59 ???

A 59 Lesabre convert would be a cool car. They have cool flowing shapes. The grill is pretty mean looking. Too bad I have too many projects, like 15+ cars. I'll bet I could get this 59 Invicta off this nice old fellow. DeSoto lives !!!

From the picture of the motor bay of the Invicta I appreciate that the wiper motor is ways easier to get it out than on any FLK car. But in our FLK cars the wiper motor is better protected and usually reusable from junk yard cars as long as the windshield is mounted.

Thank you very much for all pictures. Personally I enjoy watching these pictures very much.

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

Surely all you '59 Buick lovers know the song, right? "Buick '59" by the Medallions. One of my favorite do-wop type songs. Here it is on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIAMOg5pB8E I especially like the tiny voice in the background reciting "Buick '59, Buick -- '59!"

It's interesting...but somewhat understandable...how many FWL fans like the '59 Buicks, and that includes me. They were graceful and clean, and rare enough to not get tired of them.

Fastest and scariest trip I ever endured was with a friend driving his dad's new Electra. We made a 70 mile trip across the North Dakota plains in about 35 minutes. Every square on the speedometer showed red the entire trip.

Re- the 59 Buick and other 59 GM product fins: Other than the 59 Cadillac, all the 59 GM fins basically stretched out on ahorizontal plane
with no upsweep to the rear. If you take a look, the deck lids swoop down somewhat on the Buick, Pontiac and Olds,
and the fin ends sit above the lids, but they are not up-swept like the Mopar fins.
Chevy fins also, horizontal with no upsweep, but the Chevy deck lid is another story!!
I also happen to love the 59 Pontiacs, my parents owned one.

The 1959 Buick sedan that 60crossram has posted is actually a LeSabre series car with the 364-cid 2-bbl engine -- not the Invicta series with the 401-cid 4-bbl. The instrument panel, interior door panels, air cleaner, and painted (rather than bright) drip rail all point to the car being a LeSabre.

Ian, that 59 is beautiful! That's my favorite car ever constructed after a few 58 Mopar ragtops.

Is there some kind of message there?

The smallest cars in the picture are virtually the only 4-doors...

Neil,

RE the green station wagon, to me the oddest thing about that picture is the lighting. Very bright, not just a camera flash or even headlights. As far as the girl sitting in back, she is just sitting in the 'way back,' with her back to the tailgate. No?
