Before the 58 DeSoto there was a 57 plain jane 6 cyl plymouth. But I can find no photos for it. That one was traded in right away because it was so gutless my dad couldn't stand driving it.

58 DESOTOS RULE - 2015-06-01 4:02 PM

Yup. Dr. De Soto is right. That is a 1958 Packard and not a Chrysler product at all. That was the final model offered by Packard before they ceased making cars and it's essentially a Studebaker Hawk. Only the trim is different. A sad end to a famous make. Packard thought Studebaker would be a good company to merge with to give them some visbility in the car wars, but Studebaker was sicker than anybody realized and it ended up in bringing down Packard in 1958. Studebaker itself stopped making cars after the 1966 model year because there just wasn't money in the bank to create cars the public wouid want to buy.

That Packard Hawk is pretty rare. The company didn't manage to sell many of them. I've only seen one in a musuem.

The 1958 Packard is my favorite Packard. The differences between it and a Studebaker are about the same amount as the differences between a Chrysler and a DeSoto for '58. The '58 Packard has different fins, hood, dash, tail lights, a different front grill, different front bumper, and of course completely different trim/hubcaps. Though the one in the photo is not a Hawk. It is the standard four door sedan.

That black PLY Belvie vert, above, is of very early production.

Wonder how long it 'lived'?

The pics were my screen captures from a video, which was just published in this month. I wish I could offer more pics from the show, since there were more FL cars.
It might be possible, that the importer has swapped that wheel or should the steering column be also red? Then not.

One '60 DeSoto Diplomat wagon still exists today in nice condition in Finland. The chances are big it could be a very same car.

Must be a rare color combination - two-tone paint without the color sweep side trim.

My grandfather on his retirement farm with his gold-and-white '57 Plymouth Belvedere in the background. Photo circa 1962.

Really a very nice photo - I bet you would like to find that car again (or is it still in the family)?

Unfortunately, no. It did stay in the family until the '70s (owned by my uncle). I understand that there was an engine fire and then the car was junked. It was a 6/automatic, kind of a weird powertrain, especially for a Belvedere. But my grandfather was a frugal man and wouldn't have a V-8; he considered V-8s to be gas guzzlers.

I sure would like to have one like it someday, especially in the gold and white.

Nice pictures, they bring back a lot of memories. I was a young man when most of these pictures were taken. THANK YOU all very much.

Catch ya later.

Doesn't look like there is much water in that lake.

Hola Yo'al

I was looking for 1966 Starke Florida Images. I used Google Images and found this of Bill Joe Crab ( a "Safe Cracker" ) and his Plymouth.
