Location: Parts Unknown | hemidenis - 2016-02-21 9:22 PM Someone please find a FL car here or I would never go to Florida again... ===================== With convertible versions of 59 Chev, Pontiac, Olds (2), 58-9 T-bird, 55 Chev, 58 Buick, I am at a loss for why anyone would need to see a Forward Look car. Would be nice, but these are all top flite fin era cars. Exner oversaw some real duds and the Brand X boys had some real good ones too.

Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Went to my elderly mom's house last week, and gathered up a bunch of old photos. No wisecracks, please! The very handsome young man and the attractive young lady are ME and my SISTER, many moons ago! Picture was taken in my hometown of Donora, PA. I don't think I'm that bow-legged any more! Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Pete, I don't "remember" that car being in my immediate family. Directly across the street from this picture, to MY left as I stood there, was a school, and often teachers parked in front of my parents' home while they were in the building, so it could have been a teacher's car (although in June, school would likely not be in session). My mom doesn't remember the car, and there's no one left who is old enough to know. Wiz, you're RIGHT about me having the same shorts. I think I used them yesterday -- to scrub a floor! LOL!

I doubt their car culture was so thin, that there were not car guys to save these cars to this day and they just throw them away after few years of service plus there were wars and other conflicts stirring the pack.. The lack of service and parts availability blessed the rest... Expert Posts: 2312 Location: Arizona | a few entries up, photo 55cp of the lincoln mercury dealer really highlights the styling change that took place right around 1960 when the "up top in the fenders" headlight motif changed to "down in the grill at the ends" motif. You can see it in the Mercury and Comet versus the Fords and Forward looks.

Expert Posts: 1288 | Dave and Ray -- I wondered about that thing up there on the top right of the photo as well because it "shore nuff" does look like an aircraft, especially like the old F-86 Sabre. I think the newest cars up there are '59s, so the pic may have taken about the summer of that year. That was about the time that most of the Air Force Academy was being constructed and the North American Air Defense Command (now North American Aerospace Defense Command), or NORAD, was becoming fully operational, so it may have been some publicity regarding one or both of the two. I've got to see if there are any local history buffs who may have some info. Joe

Veteran Posts: 194 Location: Dorset, England | There appear to be several of the same model of black Cadillac sedan in the Pikes Peak car park. Were they a taxi service for folks who couldn't face the challenge of driving to the summit? And what is the square thing on the roof of one of them?

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Eight Cadillac Fleetwood 75 LWB sedans or limousines. I know there used to be a cog railway up the mountain, but these cars were probably used to bring people up, and down, the mountain. The square thing on the roof may be a glass/plastic panel.

Expert Posts: 4654 | Some history of that plane on Pikes Peak. In 1958 it was placed there on display by the Air Force Association. After being vandalized, it was removed in 1964, and was damaged in transit ( it fell off the trailer on the way down) and was buried somewhere on the mountain. Almost forty years later in 2003, it was discovered when workers unearthed it digging in a gravel pit, then hauled it away for scrap!

Expert Posts: 1288 | Dave -- Very interesting. My first trip up The Peak was in 1957 and so I wouldn't have seen it then. I didn't return to the top until the '70s, so I missed it again. We have been living here in the Springs since '81, but any info on rediscovering the aircraft remains slipped by. Thanks for the info. Bill -- The cog railway is still alive and well but I think the scenery is much better on the highway which, incidently, is now paved all the way up. The cog and the limos are for the "flatland touristers" who shy away from mountain driving. Even at that, it seems I run across at least one car with lowland plates using the brakes going UPHILL!. The brake checking station at Glen Cove, even in this day of disks, reeks of burned brake material. Doc -- There have been numerous aircraft landings all over the Rockies at various levels. And, as you said, almost all of them have been hard -- VERY HARD! Joe

A huge light would ruin the picture on the screen, but without light the distant cars and the steam engine wouldn't be showing at all... Maybe a pre-set spotlight that didn't allow light onto the big screen?
