Amazing how they got these cars squeezed in so tightly. Probably park by "feel" - bang, OK that's far enough that way - bump, OK that's far enough too...................3 or 4 more tries............ah, got it in there! Hope I didn't do too much damage.

I remember going to the new car introductory shows with my Dad (he was a DeSoto-Plymouth dealer) and all the show cars were weighted down with sandbags to make them lower and sleeker. Advertising at it's best even back then.

Lowry AFB, CO, about 1961. From the condition of the '57's eyebrows, it must have come from another state.

The '57 Plymouth Belvedere in the photo above is like "Miss Belvedere" that was buried in Tulsa back in 1957 I believe.

The green job on the trailer is Mickey Thompson's Bonneville racer with four Pontiac engines and four 1937 Cadillac transmissions in which he did do a one-way shot at 406 MPH in 1960. Thimgs were rather primitive then as the big concerns were the tires and were so even by the time of late Hemi Superbirds and Daytonas in NASCAR.

I never understood the trim on this car. What were they going for? Did they want the front of the car to look bigger?
I thought the 59 Dodge was weird with the outlining of the swept wings, but this is even more weird. They should
have made it look like a lighting bolt. That would have been cool.

Dave --
It looks like the '56 Plymouth overheated up at the old visitors' center of the Cave of the Winds located on US 24 just west of Colorado Springs. The elevation there is about 7000 feet (+ or -) in a rather short but steep climb that could cause problems on a hot summer day on the jaunt from the base of the mountains up to the center, particularly for flatland touristers who oft times are on their brakes going uphill.

I never understood the trim on this car. What were they going for? Did they want the front of the car to look bigger?
I thought the 59 Dodge was weird with the outlining of the swept wings, but this is even more weird. They should
have made it look like a lighting bolt. That would have been cool.

============================

One designer started at the front at one height and worked his way back.
A second designer started at the back and worked his way forward. When
they passed each other, they realized they were at different heights. Rather
that start over, they just filled in between the two misaligned runs and called
it "good".

They would do the "lightning bolt" for 59 Windsor.

Nice pics!

That last one is actually a modern diorama made with die-cast scale models, though. It's made by Michael Paul Smith, look him up in Google, he does amazing stuff.
