Veteran Posts: 139 Location: Central Kentucky | I love that last photo Pete, that's gotta be California there. A lot going on in that picture too... I think I'll hang out at Stan's for a while, grab a burger and a soda and just watch the cars go by.

Location: Parts Unknown | That isn't just ANY 61 Dodge, either ! That's a Polara 2HT ! Yes those are 58 Plymouth hubcaps. 61 Dodge had the center point with the radiating black lines.

Veteran Posts: 119 | "Jim, the '58 Dodge at the Speedee Mart, I would guess Florida or California, because of the palms and the yellow tags. Although I'm not 100% if there were 7/11 stores in FLA back then. If I had to put money on it, I'd go with Florida, though." Pete, I'd go with CA (SoCal for sure), as FLA's license plates changed colors each year in those days, a practice that continued into the '60's. In '68, summer vacation was a trip to L.A. to visit friends from when my folks lived there in the '50's, and where I was born. Their kids' idea of breakfast was a Clark Bar and a Slurpee, the latter of which had recently been introduced. (7-11's hadn't reached our part of Michgan yet, so they were somewhat exotic to this 11-year-old). Needless to say, those kids were "livin' large in L.A.," quite literally. TG

Thanks Tom! Neat trick, identifying by license plates. And I agree, that since all license plates in this picture appear to be black on deep yellow, this has to be CA somewhere in 1958-1962 . Veteran Posts: 119 | You're welcome Jim, Take a close look at that "59 Black Plate" with the '92 sticker attached. CA Black Plates began in '63, so the seller is taking alot of "license" by describing his as from his '59 Caddy since new. It's just so much ebay nonsense. TG

Expert Posts: 2596 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | Pictures from Stockholm 50's and 60's. Sweden hadde then left then. 1967 we got the right traffic. But the wheel has always been on the left side. 36pcs Chrysler in 1959 was sold new in Sweden. Plymouth sold a lot more out. One glimpse of an Imperial on one photo must have been very rare to see then. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Jim, that's a 58 New Yorker parked at Sprenger's place--the side trim confirms that. Joakim, that looks like a 58 IMP, based upon the length of its visible fender molding, and that looks like a 58 Fury, parked there...think it's still there? Finally, and this is sad, but, a COUPLE years ago someone was trailering a primo condition 56 Merc down 395, when the towing pickup truck's driver fell asleep. Both the truck and the trailer rolled over, totalling the truck (which was insured for Collision) and the trailer/Merc; the Merc looked pretty-(not) much like Joakim's photo shows, of that other Merc... Unfortunately, there was no insurance 'on' the Merc, and to date it remains at an impound yard; the tow yard Lien-Sale'd it, along with the trailer and the quad-runner which was being carried in the pick up's bed. Veteran Posts: 119 | Neil, Even though the Merc's a '55, it still makes one wonder whether it was a rollover, a building fell on it, etc. Imagine the '56 owner's sleepless nights after his accident; I would still be crying! TG

I believe there was 6 or 7 persons in the car, only one survived. It was heavy snowing that night and the car got out of controll and drove throu a metal barrier down into the icy water. My stepfather wife was one of the dead. He was a Captain and was told this by telegraph the day after. They had a boy that was 3 years old at the time.
