Nah...

You want it resting on the bump stops when you camp in it overnight, don't you?

I was having breakfast with an old friend who now lives in St. Thomas. We were at his folks place in North Carolina when his dad pulled out the old photo's. He had a thing for forward look convertibles, and had owned a few many years ago. I didn't have a scanner so I had to take pictures of old photo's... One is a 59 Plymouth Sport Fury, the white one was just for spare parts and the other is a 61 Chrysler.

phurious, photographing photographs is a good way of doing things, but you need to look carefully at your surroundings.

What I do is place the photo on the floor and stand above it, this is done in daylight, but not in the sun. By holding your camera over the pic and then getting the picture as square as you can in the viewfinder you can often take a pic that's as good as the original. I had a play with your pic of the 'vert with the street scene behind it using Irfanview and I got it a little better, but not sufficiently so to make it worth posting it.

I love that shot of Phoenix. Very cool. The '58 Plymouth may be a Belvedere though, since it looks like it has roof trim.

Hi Ian!
I searched for Pontiac registration number on the web Swedish Transport Board According to the information that was first registration in 1972 and it was from 1980, is still safe in a garage for 30 years. The picture was taken around midsummer between 1974-1979? (Trees / flowers on the car is a tradition among U.S. cars on the Midsummer celebrations in Sweden)

Some Dodge may have been before?

Yup, and isn't that a 1962 Chubbie wagon, on the far side of the DeSoto, and there's a '60 Chubster,
out there, too.

Point is, this photo wasn't taken in 1959.

Methinks that is US (route) 59, ..... not a suggestion of the year the photo was taken.

Ian could give a more positive confirmation, but the trim on that "60 DeSoto" looks too wide
and low for a DeSoto. I'm voting 60 Saratoga. Ian ?

And this photo of Phoenix ? Jesus, could a beautiful place get more F$#@ED up than that ?
What an inviting streetscape in 1960. Today, it is as sterile and uninteresting as the underside
of a dumpster.

The patrol convoys heading out are often led by an MRAP fitted with a mine ska-
-sploder (couldn't think of a better name for it). Kinda looks like one of those giant
golf course mowers glued to the front of the MRAP. Has solid banks of wheels that
pivot, riding over an interrupted footprint to explode any mines laid in the path of
the convoy. I guess this is what they call "mowing the lawn" over here.

Well, lot's of success there, Brent! I have some more postcards coming soon which I had piled up at Neil's (US-shipping only) and will try to post them in a sort-of daily manner.
First, here's one for your colleagues, a 1957 Dodge Mayfair at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina

1957 Dodge Mayfair at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina

And then the new aquisition...
I really thought this was a 1957 Dodge, considering all the other (far older) cars parked at Westgate Shopping Center in Bradenton, Florida.
But looking closer now I physically have the postcard, it seems to have the give-away1958 script on the RH side of the trunk lid. And though it seems like it, I can not really see whether the rear quarter panel trim runs all the way to the rear light (1957), or whether there’s a script instead (1958).
So, it would be the only 1958 in the lot, as far as I can see. Nice Sunshine Yellow & Glacier White color.
Looking at the fin inserts, it seems to have the shiny ones with reflectors, making it ‘more’ then a Coronet. I do not see the Custom Royal side roof trim, which leads me to believe this is a 1957 Dodge Royal Lancer.
And there’s a bonus 1957 Plymouth Savoy in the background!

It could be a Windsor or Saratoga, with the Sport-Tone double side trim, it was optional on both. Definitely not DeSoto, trim is too low.

It ain't much and it might not even be a forward look car...
But it's a nice shot and I think it's a 1959 Plymouth, at Newburgh-Beacon Ferry "Dutchess" at Newburgh Harbor, New York

Yep, it's a '59 Plymouth. I have two of them here at the house and I can usually spot them from far away.

First, here's one for your colleagues, a 1957 Dodge Mayfair at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina

Great pics!

That's not a Mayfair, though, Jim. It's a regular USA Dodge (can't say wich trim level) with a weird reflection on the side making it look like it has a dark colour sweep... But looking at the enlarged pic, it's clear this is a regular Dodge, you can see the swept wing fin and the long single side trim.

I like to think so too! After a second, better look, I think you're right. I'll correct it.
Thanks!

At first, I thought it was some kind of Spring Special, but looking a little closer, it's the sun's reflection.
