I weep.

March 2017

Went for a "walk" along that block of Troost Avenue. Only about five or six shops are occupied, plus the dollar store at the corner. The street cars and tracks are gone and the early 20th century street lamps have been replaced with new lamps on poles that are three or four storeys tall. Only need four of them on a block. Parking meters are gone and no signs advising of parking restrictions.

Went back to the 2007 shots of that street. Not that much different, actually. Very sad.

that is showing how economy affect everything. Except for a natural disaster it is not reason for a city to looks like this other that bad economy.

Not only the economy, Denis...

Industries come and go, maybe a town a little way down the road was a bit bigger and attracted the attention of the bigger retailers,
people became more mobile too.

All around the world, cities are growing and little towns dying out. Sad but all too true.

The other thing I thought about, mentioning parking meters and so on, sometimes the authorities allow a place to develop beyond
its means or reasonable expectations. And that might come back to bite.

Thanks for posting the current streetview. I drive this block often and it is as dead as it looks. Frankly, it is amazing so many
buildings are still standing in this neighborhood. There is hope though. This is one node that is gaining interest from pioneer
hipsters and artists. Maybe, just maybe, they can save it and bring it back like several other parts of town.

Thanks Wizard ! I think most members just flip by photos that were posted before, or enjoy them again. It does no good to call them out. Another site that I visit (I hardly post pics there ), has a guy contributing lots of photos that everyone enjoys. Some other guy kept pointing out repeats, and the guy posting the pics stopped posting until a bunch of other members told the critic to stop the baloney. Now everyone is glad the photo poster is back and the critic finally stopped. That was on the HAMB site.

Can see maybe three more -

Two cars behind the white 1962 Pontiac is a 1957-78 Plymouth or Dodge sedan, green with white roof and sportone.

To the right of the 1957-58 Plymouth or Dodge is a 1952-54 Ford or Meteor, parked in the same direction as the 1957-58. Just to the right of that car is a car with a pale blue roof. That one looks like a 1957-59 Plymouth or Dodge sedan.

And going over to the left of the 1957-58 Plymouth/Dodge is a 1957 Mercury or Monarch, pink with a white roof. The car to the left of that appears to be a 1957-59 Plymouth or Dodge 2 door Suburban.

It's not a Mopar/Chryco vehicle, but the white car in the bottom left corner of the photo is a 1961 Monarch - last year of the line.

The photo is taken on the Canadian Pacific Railway Coal Harbour docks in Vancouver. Or were the docks. The tracks were ripped up about 10-15 years ago and the area expanded with landfill. Have condo and office buildings along there now. C.P.R. used to run ferries to West Vancouver, North Vancouver and up Indian Arm.

The greenery behind the Esso marine station is part of Stanley Park. The body of water is the Burrard Inlet and the mountains in the background are the Coast Mountains with North Vancouver along the north shore. The Naval Training Centre, HMCS Discovery, is the white building on the left on Deadman's Island.

I'm not Bill but I can see a 56 Plymouth black top convertible merging in from the left of the photo. And a 55 Desoto pretty much straight to the right of that Plymouth in one of the middle(ish) lanes.

I've posted this below pic a long time ago. It must be a same busy highway curve as hemidenis posted in the message #557908.
I spotted FIVE Fwrd Lk vehicles, better than two from pic above..

well 56 cars are like 62's. tell me 5 similarities between the 56 and the 57 Ply. Looking at them you would think they are actually 5 years apart. I cant see them in the crowd, I struggle with Polaras and certain dodges, the only giveaway are the windshields and rear glass... ...
