Thanks Tom! That really brings out the image alive. Reading your short story is like being able to drive on over main street in that brand new red and white Dodge...

Plus what appears to be a '58 Plaza taxicab, and a '55 Savoy wagon, although these images seem to be slightly distorted on the left side of the photo.

Here are two more photos, the second one a reminder of the tragedy in Australia now.

Very nice Imperial, at the Western Ways Motel! Too bad about the other brand so rudely torn into this otherwise very nice picture...

Here's another nice pair of postcards, Sauzer's Waffle Shop in Schererville, Indiana.
featuring a - what I think is a - 1958 Chrysler Windsor Hardtop Spring Special in one, and a 1956 Dodge Coronet in the other.

Very nice ladies, with that Plymouth above!

This must undoubtedly be that infamous photographer's DeSoto, it having the white hood...

1958 DeSoto Firedome Sportsman at Bay View TraveLodge in San Diego, California

For the DeSoto club, I've made a seperate web page featuring this photographer's DeSoto: DeSoto Photographer Postcards
If anybody would happen to have any knowledge of any other postcard.., I would gladly receive your tips!

That white hood brings two questions to mind .....

I wonder why the white hood .... damage replacement ? If so, how did just the hood get
damaged ? Unusual.

Secondly, as a photographer, who by profession, has to have a sense of aesthetics, why did
did the hood remain unpainted to match ??? Seems very unprofessional to me.

I'll bite. The photographer is an artist. He wished to be different, so he painted his hood white, to match the roof and side sticks.

Here's another question, which of the above Waffle Shop photos is the newer?

Well, I'll dirty up this thread a little with some grittier photos.
The second one features a 1960 Plymouth sedan, probably Fury, based on the door window trim. My guess anywho.

Savoy Plaza,

Given the '59 Mercury in the bottom Waffle Shop pic, I'd say it's the newer image.
The empty field on the right is more built-up, too. Interesting how they repositioned
the ovals for W-A-F-F-L-E S-H-O-P, and repainted them with stripes, too.
It looks like maybe the sinister waffle chef was touched up, too.

The more I look at the possible Alaska photo with the red '61 Dodge wagon, and Jim's card from Nome, I think it is the same location, just further along the sidewalk. The bear on Jim's photo can be seen in the distance on the '61 Dodge photo, unless my eyes deceive me. I've tried to zoom in on my photo, but it distorts.
If I was a bettin' man, I'd say its the same sidewalk.

Here's a photo of a teen and his momma; he seems unhappy (perhaps because momma didn't spring for the white walls on the '55! )

Thanks for posting the pic of the '61 Dodge Wagon. The green on the door doesn't match the red to much. My red '61 wagon doesn't have a white roof. We all could meet across the street and have a Schlitz.

Good eye, Pete ! It is the same sidewalk !

I can see the bear, but also note the diagonally placed boards in the shot with the Dauphine.
In the Dodge shot, you can see this same side street and corner up closer to the bear.

Good detective work !

So, do we know anyone in Nome to ask about the current status of the Dodge ? Highly
unlikely it was worth hauling back to civilization for scrap price.

A genuine Fire Chief's car would make that car double-extra cool !

Very cool to correlate the two pictures. I really like that picture with the '61 Dodge . Something very gritty and bleak with the grey sky, muddy street etc. There's something about that '61 Dodge wagon that just seems to fit right in.

Must be a hard environment for wheelcovers too.

It certainly does look like that Dodge had some function for it's previous. I'm sure what's under that that paint on the door would tell us.

Well, I'd like to get it right, technically too!

So, a 2-door is always a Suburban, never a Sierra?

I bought four photos at a Medina County swap meet two weeks ago. I am 99.9% certain that they were taken at Cloverleaf Speedway in Cleveland. I use to go there every weekend as a kid. One of the photos is dated 1971. What is surprising is that that 1956 Desoto would be at least 15 years old and it doesn't appear to have any significant rust on it. Definitely was not a daily driver in salt soaked Oho. Dave

Wow! We stayed at the Riviera in Vancouver many times when I was a kid. It was right there
along old 99. They had a restaurant in or right near the motel. I was very fond of the red jello
in the salad bar !

Some rare stuff in that first one...

An MG Y and a Vanguard, notably. Which is the Forward Look in that one?

Wow ! Not one, but TWO big series Buicks in one photo ! Those Roadmasters were
amazingly big cars ! Just look at the mass of that roof next to the "big" New Yorker !

I've seen, before, that PC of the Ironwood MI restaurant, with the living quarters above it.

No part of the world is free from earthquakes, and THIS place, with the corner of the 2nd floor being supported
by virtually nothing, is at a major risk of collapse from racking during any significant ground movement episode
(as the engineers would say).

What a (pretty, but-) defective design!
