"But what is that green thing up the end? Doesn't look right for either Morris Oxford or Standard 8/10, is it a Hillman? "

I believe that it is a Mercedes 180 or 190.

The quality of the picture is too poor to get much detail out of it by blowing it up. About the best I can make out of it is that it is a 1957 or 58 Dodge station wagon. I cannot see the rear so I couldn't say if it is a Plymouth rear or a Dodge rear.

Looks like Plymouth sheetmetal with 57 Dodge bumper / grille parts cobbed in there.

AHA! Havana, that could explain one and another. They keep their 50s driving no matter what. In facts, I've been in a taxicab with doors that stayed closed with a rubber band.

So, a Plymouth with Dodge front bumpers would certainly be possible too! Only ashame to come to the conclusion that one 1957 Dodge is missing it's bumpers...

Thanks, BlueHeron, a Mercedes is indeed a strong likelihood, I wasn't thinking laterally enough!

And the blue car behind the Havana Plymouth, that's undoubtedly something from behind the Iron Curtain. Wartburg, Volga or similar.

Ouch, Ray! At least it looks as though the rear window stayed in tact (in the first two photos, that is)

Here are two snowy pictures.....

Reminds me, I got an e.mail later saying this crash was on the way to "The Snow" (Australia's Snowy Mountains, near Thredbo) about 1970. The Royal is a '60 - '64 model AP3, you might see the slightly lowered roofline that was a feature of this model (you will have noticed it's all '54 in the cabin, just longer overhangs and later styling to go with them).

It seems the owner had owned it since new or near-new, replaced it after driving it back to Adelaide (600+ miles) with a Valiant VF ('68) V8 which he's had ever since!

Judging by the side mouldings and the shape of the roof (especially what we can see of it through the windshield), I'm pretty sure this Plymouth is actually a Sport Fury convertible.

Looking again, it sure looks like a convertible with the top up. For being a Fury, shouldn't it have a rear quarter medaillion? Or is it that it can't be seen from this angle?

Can't be seen from that angle. Plus, the shape of the side mouldings actually cannot possibly be from any other model than Sport Fury, with that part of the moulding following the top curve of the fin.

...and here's something else. Not a postcard, not a photo, but a 1957 Pocket Calender Card featuring Lawrence welk with his beautiful 1957 Dodge Custom Royal Convertible.

But what's that? The fender script says something else! Looks like Royal...

Mmmmmhhh..., looking at that 1957 calender, I now see my 4-door is a Monday production...

So much for that saying, it survived in all original condition and is still fine today!

D500Jim,

Thanks for posting the Castle Courts Restaurant in Niagara Falls, New York post card. I live not too far from that stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard. That road is loaded with old motels. Back during its Heyday it must have been quite a spectacle with all the neon signs. These days most of the old signs are in bad shape.

Those are some fantastic cards! I think the Georgian Terrace Panama City is a favorite--what a cool snapshot!

Let's leave these vacation spots and go to the Second City.
The first is labelled Cicero Ave, 1966.
The second is Outer Drive and Ohio, 1959.

Mr. Welk's car had a red interior with a red painted spare wheel cover on its continental kit,
and, his name was made into a chromed pot metal nameplate, which can be (sorta-) seen,
installed on its door, in the photo.

The above photo was printed in a book, but, I forget which one, right now.

I've got several photos of this car, but none of them show the precise area of the trunk where a D500 emblem would
be installed on it, and none of the literature on the car confirms whether it's a D500 or not---altho it almost certainly
should-be one (single-4, or, a Super-D).

"But what is that green thing up the end? Doesn't look right for either Morris Oxford or Standard 8/10, is it a Hillman? "

I believe that it is a Mercedes 180 or 190.

I'd say a Standard 8 or 10,San Francisco at that time had a lot of big British car dealers.

Vedeete - Looking again I think you are right. It looks more like a Standard than a Mercedes.

BlueHeron: Yep this (the ponton picutre) is a Mercedes Benz 180. A Mercedes always had hubcaps with a colored ring and a Mercedes star in the center. The Standart looks - from the point of view of the ponton shape quite similar, but differs in many details.
Happy motoring!

*******************************************

You guys are funny ..... comparing wrinkles on a turd to confirm what kind of turd it is !!!

If you will note, the rear deck of the Standard is just like the S.F. picture, also the rear window. The Mercedes is
has a much longer trunk and the window is quite different.

Either way, they still look like something I might find on my lawn !

Show me the fins !

Those lights in the Indianapolis Holiday Inn postcard look fake or superimposed, it just doesn't look right. I wonder what the story is on that?

Here's a photo to liven everyone's Monday morning!
