Expert Posts: 3480 Location: Montreal, Canada | D500Jim - 2011-04-16 3:06 AM Seen here before, but finally added to the postcard website. I don't mean to start a debate, but this is incorrect. First off, there has never been a "French only" movement in Quebec, but rather a movement that you could call "French first" in only some aspects of the social life (for example, in the signage and advertisement of stores). You can still have anything written in any language you want anywhere in Quebec, as long as there is French too on the signs (the company names are not subjected to this, so we also have Starbuck's Coffee and Best Buy and all the Chapter's and American Apparel stores etc. etc., contrary to what the anti-Quebec propagandists would have you believe!) This movement came in because before the 1970's, in Montreal especially but everywhere in Quebec, you could hardly find a sign in French even though the majority of the population was French-speaking. Also, that so-called "French first" movement never had anything to do with street names at all. Dorchester Boulevard still exists in the most western part of the city, and the other part was renamed René-Lévesque boul. in the late 1980's after the death of former Prime-Minister René-Lévesque, founder of Hydro-Québec, the state-owned electric power company and most important provincial asset. Hydro-Quebec's head offices are on that street, hence the name change. There are still thousands of English named streets everywhere in Montreal and they will keep their names. It's just that I was 'so proud' that I found this location through a (too) little research, not knowing the history behind the name change.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | I really dig the Donner Inn card, "Air Cooled"--as opposed to water cooled? The black Fury appears to be wearing dog-dishes; unusual, I'd think, for a Fury. Pete ****************************************** If the Fury was a 56-7-8, I'd agree, and even in 60 it might be a little odd, but by then the name "Fury" was about meaningless, being applied to sedans, wagons, and even concrete trucks. Wow! ... that top pic with the 55 Chrysler is either a very well faked "old photo", or is the most provocative old shot I have seen using one of our cars. Nice!

Location: Parts Unknown | Although it makes it easy for us latter day detectives to PID this guy, it is a shame that he did not use a little of his earnings from this photography to get that hood painted. Too bad we will likely never know the story behind that white hood to add spice to this guy's legacy. Thanks again to all you guys who post these pix. Makes for a nice mental escape to more pleasant places from the heat and dust and edginess of AFG.

Too bad we will likely never know the story behind that white hood to add spice to this guy's legacy. Thanks again to all you guys who post these pix. Makes for a nice mental escape to more pleasant places from the heat and dust and edginess of AFG. Being that the car was new and looks to be in otherwise very good shape, and especially because the guy is a professional photographer with his car always strategically placed so it can be seen in the picture, I think the white hood is really meant to be his signature. At a time when copyrights were not always respected, he made sure that his photos were always recognizable and that his unusually painted car could serve as a proof.

Expert Posts: 4654 | The white hood on the photographers car reminds me of the morning I lost my hood and found a white one, and ran the car that way till I sold it. I'm sure his story would be different. One morning in 1971 while driving to work, full of p!ss and vinegar, I nailed 2nd gear hard, heard the hood unlatch, fly up blocking my view, rip off its hinges, skid across the roof, and watched it in my rearview mirror pinwheel down the road, veering off the side of the road narrowly missing the car behind me. Good thing I had some distance on him. That guy probably had to change his underwear. I went back to check it out, but it wasn't worth saving. After driving hoodless, I finally found a straight solid white hood.
