On all good things come an end. My stack of postcards is done, and with it, my daily post here.
All postcards are published via Panoramio, and meanwhile, they get an impressive hit count of over a 1,000 a day.
Now, that should (could) help promote our beloved Forward Look cars!
I have them made available on any GPS, in such a way that a postcard image with info comes popping up whenever that GPS is close to that particular location.
Also, an app is comming for mobile devices.

And now for my last daily contribution. A postcard I have been looking for for years, and finally got it!
It's been shown here several times before, still, I can't help but showing it again
Now incoprorated in the postcard website, with some enhanced enlargements
I think the DeSoto might be an Adventurer, but please, enlighten me!

Two 1958 Dodge Coronet California Highway Patrol cars & a 1959 DeSoto Adventurer at Wishon Cove at Bass Lake, California

Jim, I'd like to thank you for your work in publishing these. Looking at them from the other side of the Atlantic, they take me back to a time and places I never knew, but always wished I could have seen. Hopefully others will have their own cards or pictures to publish to keep this thread growing!

Well, Jim, ....

Thank you again for all you've posted, ... and to all the others too. This is my favorite thread ever
and puts a smile on my face most every day in a place that just isn't too "smiley".

That DeSoto is one to honestly be confused about. It has the Adventurer deck strips and *appears*
to have the Adventurer shield where the side trim kicks up .... but it is just shadowed enough to not
be definite. However, it also looks to have picked up some added "Sportsman" badging ahead of the
gas door, and the Fireflite "wart" behind it. Odd for a car that cannot be more than a year or two old
when this photo was taken.

I know Bass Lake well and know this location. My Ex's uncle has a cabin there and my own DeSoto
has been seen in this very spot. Wonderful place !

Another Birmingham/Glendale AL scene

I like this photo. It is proof of what I remember seeing on the streets as a kid. Not all cars on the street, especially older ones in the hands of young adults, were top of the line coupes or convertibles, loaded with both factory options and dealer accessories.

Too many people seem to try to reconstruct their earlier life, when their bank account, wife or mother-in-law made them buy that practical Belvedere sedan, rather than a loaded dual quad Fury.

Yup; thanks, Jim!

BTW, has anyone wondered about the story on that Formal-Black 1960 IMP LeBaron sedan, above, in Birmingham AL?

The car looks to be in excellent condition, but by 1968-1969....(according to the fastback roofline on some Poncho/
Boo-ick in the background)....that car would have been considered a 'relic', and almost certainly would not, still,
have been owned or used regularly by the RICH business owner who would have bought it, new in late 59/early 60.

The grocery store that it's parked-at signifies little, but, whoever drove and parked the car, there, didn't care about the
car possibly receiving some (more-) parking lot rash or other damage to it.

That 61/62 Crapillack is parked a more-careful distance from the store's entrance (just like where we all park
our cars, nowadays!)

I wonder what the date of the McDonald's Drive-In photo is ? I'd bet good money the 57
Dodge got borrowed from "Dad".

Note the "MEAN" and "REBELLIOUS" looking Merc and Ford with their blackwalls and black rims
next to that frumpy old man's 56 Dodge with the dowdy white walls and full wheel covers ... or are
those the SUPER SQUARE old futz wire wheels on that thing ?

Good stuff !

What's really interesting, (to me!), about that 57 Coronet, at Mickie-D's, is that the owner removed the middle-area
'tongues' from the exhaust deflectors---maybe for a look of improved performance---?

The car is not a D500 (no evidence of emblem mounting holes on the trunk), but, it's got some decent sized tires on it;
maybe 8.50x14".

Maybe it's got 3-deuce carburetion, and a worked camshaft, on its Poly 325 engine?

And, so you can, in Havana.

In fact, you can now BUY this car, because the Cuban Govt has just now OK'ed the formal sale of its old cars.

There goes the neighborhood.

That '56 looks more like a Savoy Spring Special rather than a Belvy. Black hash marks in the wide chrome trim piece where the Belvedere name should be.

A wedding in Canada, and I might have seen this one before on FL Network. A '55 NYer is parked behind the couple, and the V-shaped grille on the '56 Ferd-looking car is that of a Meteor, the Canadian branding of that year's U. S. Ferd. Looks like the father giving away his little girl. If the Chrysler is indeed the wedding car, thay have great taste.

Methinks that is the bride AND groom. Either that, or he's a well preserved 70-year-old

My own parents were 20 years apart in age, with my dad 20 years older than my mom, so that's nothing new to me. At their 1955 wedding, their getaway car was a '53 Dodge Coronet. Don't quite see how they could get away that quickly with that fluid-drive semi-auto tranny.

The Meteor is not a "Canadian Branding" of the US Ford, a common mistake. That wording makes it sound like Fords weren't sold here, only Meteors in their place. Fords were alive and well and sold in Canada then too. Ford Dealers sold Ford, Monarch and Ford Trucks. Mercury Dealers sold Mercury, Meteor and Mercury trucks and Lincolns. Meterors wore Ford Sheet metal while Monarchs wore Merc. sheet metal.

Except for Lincoln, those blue-oval boys look like redundancy specialists. Chrysler contributed to a lesser extent with the Fargo truck brand. Wern't the multiple branding practices largely eliminated with the 1965 U. S.-Canada auto trade agreement?

Rick,

Might I indulge you to send this pic to my personal address ? That Plaza sedan in the background is a dead
ringer for my new 58 Plaza. Interesting that the 57 and 58 truly are about identical except for headlights, grille,
tail lights, and hood and deck letters/ornaments. Cool pic !

The hubcap centers are dark (anodized gold), designating this as a Fury. Sid will dig this vintage pic
showing skirts on a FL car.

I can burn you off a copy and send it to you if you want. The original is a glossy, 8 X 10. In pretty good shape, I am sure it would copy well.

Just pm me your info.

Now that abandoned 1958/59 is interesting.
Looks like '59 Plymouth based body with '58 DeSoto (Firesweep or Diplomat??) front clip.
They replaced the missing windshield with rear glass - I wonder what is in place of the rear window now.
Seems like the hood ornament is upside too.

The 1965 Auto-Pack eliminated much of this kind of stuff, but the Meteor soldiered on until the mid seventies, by that time it was using Merc. sheet metal.
We still had model name differences etc. Chrysler Canada marketed the Intrepid and Dynasty as Chrysler, not Dodge in Canada.

no he does not. these skirts look weird. and imo skirts and stone shields do not go well together.

Yeah, ... the stone shield still serves its purpose, but looks funny with skirt in place.
