Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | hemidenis - 2011-09-25 8:09 PM The "Madras Oregon" picture i think is very significant; they are at least 3 FL cars on the street but also include a Chrysler dealer with a 1972-84 logo in it. The Plymouth is at least 14 years old there. That style of dealer sign actually dates back to 1964-65. Look closely at the cars in the photo and the oldest appears to be the tan 1951 Ford approaching the camera. The newest is the white 1965 Chevrolet wagon parked on the right.

Not sure what it is,was thinking '60 Dart or '59 Plymouth, but maybe a prototype?. 1959 Plymouth. Looks weird without the rear bumper, taillights and side trim. It is going to be a 4-door hardtop. Note the basic roof framework is attached to the body. Just need to add the roof panel. Quite the jig setup to get the body assembled correctly.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Ray Bell - 2011-09-20 5:50 AM Originally posted by PaulH I'm thinking Australia; notice the power brake bellows on the "wrong" side of the firewall and the remote oil filter. That truck behind looks like a Pilot House Dodge truck, which basic shell was carried forward into at least '60 down under. You could well be right... The Pilot House truck cabs ran through until 1961 here, then they were replaced with a cab that was 'borrowed' from International Harvester. It had a few changes, but they were clearly the same cab. Probably late in '59 a new flat front was put onto the Pilot House cabs with a heavy square patterned grille and dual headlights. In this pic I wouldn't be surprised if the cars behind the truck cab were Chrysler Royals, but I didn't realise we had pillarless 4-doors in the Dodge Custom Royals assembled here. Australia did get pillarless 1959 Dodge Custom Royal sedans, but that first car is a 1959 Plymouth Belvedere and Chrysler did ship CKD 1959 Belvederes to Australia. They were shipped from the U.S. Wonder if that shot of a 1959 Plymouth body being built up was also at the Australian factory. That was how the Phoenix models of the 1960's were done. Body panels were shipped from North America and built up in Australia. The pre-1960 CKD units were shipped with the complete chassis, engine, power train, serial number and all.

Expert Posts: 2474 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | Originally posted by hemidenis Without going to the European cars subject again, in one of the pictures above the one with the CHEVRON sign I think is a Peugeot 403, could be this possible? As mentioned, you are correct, though if it was new when that photo was taken it will be a 403B (which came with the taller rear axle ratio and no overdrive in the gearbox. Further down, the Post Office at Alma, Quebec photo has really surprised me, who on earth would own an Austin A30 or A35 in the Americas? And is the red car towards the left a Vauxhall Victor? These photos continue to delight everyone, clearly, but could the guys who post the really big ones please reduce the size to maybe 750 pixels wide as a maximum? This would make the whole thread easier to read and let us see the whole pic without scrolling from side to side or up and down.
