The first two photos should be entitled "The Real Cold World".

What's the Swedish word for sitting in your car, in your garage, pretending to drive it, during the Winter
(hopefully with the engine off)?

"Torbering" ?

On such a winters day.......

Some where, I have a shot taken in the 50's of my Dad's '55 tri-tone Dodge
in a huge snow cut on US HWY 20 juat west of town here.
I took it standing on the top of the snow bank and the car looks like a toy sitting on the road.
If I ever run across it I'll post it.

Yeah, that guy on the left is a near spitting image of me at that age!!

In a year or two, he will graduate into his first pair of black engineer boots
and have a pack of Luky Strikes or Camels rolled up in thos t shirt sleeves
O yeah, don't forget the duck tail hair cut and, if mom & Dad were somwhat
well off, the trousers with the little buckle in back.

What were those straight skirts the chics wore back then??
they had a buckle in back too I think.
Oh YEAH!!! One of them skirts and a white button up blouse and you could just about
make out the bra straps lurking underneath 'em. darn I loved study hall!!!!

Going back to the last page; yeah, Mark, those are 57 Coronets in that parking lot; brain fart I guess...but, they
do have 15" wheels/tires on them, which is very unusual for any non-high-performance appliaction.

And, on the dog-dish equipped 57 Chrysler, I don't recognize the usage of that wide side molding, on the car.

Short-length molding; OK, but not the configuration of that molding.

Up above here---the Mother has wisely bought extra long blue jeans, that her 'army' can grow into---that's not any
fashion statement going on!

That 57 Sierra wagon is brand new--its brightwork really glistens, but check out the wonderful job they did in drilling out
the letters, on the tail gate.

I think that the only letter that is sitting parallel to the ground is the "E".

Terrific photos! They just keep getting better!

On the '57 Dodge accident prevention wagon, note the bracket above the rear window, I wonder what it's function was?

And concerning the '57 Chrysler, those dog dishes appear to be 1960-61 Chrysler/DeSoto hubcap, the '57-59 Chrysler/Desoto dog dish had a more flat center. It maybe difficult to see with the print over the photo, but the 'dome' in the center is evident. The photo was developed May '63, so it is possible the later caps were put on. That's my theory, anyway, and I'm stickin' to it!
Although, I can't recall seeing a '57 Chrysler with the factory dog dishes; the DeSoto was more common (although rare in its own right!).

There are vertical supports seen; the supports might slide and rise/fall to reach the stacked cars.

The run-way is probably out of sight, lying on the ground level.

Fairly ingenious design, but slow to operate.

The only thing I've ever seen like that was in an episode of "Thunderbirds" I cant imagine it would have been very practical in use though.

I remember this parking lot in Portland from my childhood. If I remember correctly, there was some sort of elevator that was utilized to move the cars into the appropriate slots. Somehow, I always found this mechanized monster a bit frightening as a kid, and was always grateful that my parents never parked there with the '56 Chieftain Catalina or '61 LeSabre. I feared that the driver and passengers would remain in the car while it was moved into its pigeon-hole, but I don't think this was actually the case.

I believe that the lot was still in use well into the 1960's, but I think it was long-gone before I attended college south of Portland during the early 1970's.

Thanks for your informative reply Centurion! That sounds amazing and must have been fun to watch in action,I'm surprised something like that actually existed.wouldn't it be a hassle waiting for the elevator to raise a car up while someone else is waiting to get his car down?
Did the elevator actually slide each car into it's slot?

###########################################

The 57 dog dishies on the Chrysler are standard-issue for 57-61 Chrysler cars. The DeSoto
dog dishie, while similar, is flatter (less domed) with a flat dimple in the center. These were
also standard fare for dog dish DeSotos from 57-61

The DeSoto dog dishies are rare as hell. This is the first 57 Chrysler (or 58 or 59, for that
matter) that I have seen, although they are shown in sales brochures. I have seen a couple
each of the 60 and 61 Chrysler cars with them though.

Here we are in Mom & Dad's front yard
Home on leave in June 1964
Before leaving for Ft Story, VA

And on the beach at Ft. Story, VA (my favorite)

How I wish I had that car back!!
Was truly my 1st real love
If only I hadn't screwed it up!!
But, hey man!, we were cool back in the day, right???

Thanks for sharing those photos, thats a beautiful 1956 Dodge! Love the color scheme and the way the two tone is sectioned so it flows into the hood.Chrysler always had interesting ideas didnt they?
Out of the 1956 models the Dodge is probably my favorite,or at least neck to neck with the Plymouth.

.... concerning the '57 Chrysler, those dog dishes appear to be 1960-61 Chrysler/DeSoto hubcap,
the '57-59 Chrysler/Desoto dog dish had a more flat center. It maybe difficult to see with the print
over the photo, but the 'dome' in the center is evident. The photo was developed May '63, so it is
possible the later caps were put on. That's my theory, anyway, and I'm stickin' to it!
Although, I can't recall seeing a '57 Chrysler with the factory dog dishes; the DeSoto was more
common (although rare in its own right!).

Thanks for the explanation! I had always thought the Chrysler and DeSoto shared the same doggies, so thanks for the info!
I learned something new today!

Good stuff.

Check out the stupid F#@ing broad smoking while they gas up the Corvette !!!

In about 1982, two Canadian couples, down to the Seattle area on shopping trip, never
quite made it, when the two guys got out to pump gas and have a butt at the Arco station
in Marysville. I was waiting to meet my mother for a lunch date about 200 yards away
when the place lit off like a bomb. If memory serves, the men were blown across the
parking lot, but survived. Their wives were crispy-crittered in the back seat of the car.

About 10 years ago I about got in a physical altercation with another brilliant woman who
was about to light up at the pump. How stupid does one have to be to think this is OK ???

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Someone posted pix in the For Sale album of a 61 Chrysler sedan that had clear photos of
the Chrysler dog dishies. This has been in the last 2 years I think ??? My time is warped,
having been out of the country now for over a year, but is wasn't TOO far back. Seems to
me the car was a darker green ??? Maybe someone can find it ? They were good reference
photos of these rarely seen caps. The 57 shot would be good too, if it didn't have the writing
across the photo.
