How do you know it's not just a regular Plaza with the two tone trim and spring front fender moulding?

Yeah,I agree,Vegas is a mere shadow of it's former self. Can you imagine being able to see it like it was in the first photo? all those neat old buildings, cool signs, finned cars and beautifully dressed 50's chicks everywhere....man,those guys new how to live!

They would never believe the bleak future that laid ahead.

Nice 1960 Dodge Polara but was there anything special about this car? It looks like Harry Truman is getting the keys for the car from someone else (a salesman?)

The Truman Presidential Library has two Chryslers that belonged to the Trumans, but they're both 1941 models - a 1941 Chrysler Royal Club Coupe and a 1941 Chrysler Windsor Sedan. He may have owned later model cars but I wouldn't know where to look for that kind of information.

It was reportedly a Super D500 with 4.86 Sure Grip...see how happy the salesman is...Harry is about to find out that it's not the 170
Bent-6 that he thought that he was Special-Ordering.

This car is also, reportedly, the same one that P. Garlick discovered, in Mexico, recently, after Harry had had it be deported, after
Sweden declined to accept it, because 'they' feared that the car was too powerful and would probably alter the earth's rotation, at
such a high-latitude.

Yeah; it's THAT car.

Floyd Clymer (October 26, 1895 – January 22, 1970), was a motorcycle pioneer, racer, dealer and distributor, a magazine publisher, a racing promoter, an author, and a motorcycle manufacturer. He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.

In 1960 Clymer was conducting a cross-country test of a new Ford Falcon for his magazine, Auto Topics. When he stopped at Independance, MO Clymer ran into his friend, former President Truman.

This photo is Clymer speaking with Truman standing beside his new car, a 1960 Dodge Polara 4-door hardtop.

I still think that my version is truthier.

Note the gyroscopic wheels and the emergency ejector seat; think that the salesman is explaining
the function of the flux capacitor, in the photo.

And, you can see the Radar Range detector on top of the rear flite deck, too.

Neil, would you hazard a guess as to the color scheme, interior and exterior of Truman's Polara? My bet is a conservative tan, light green, or light blue metallic, with a matched interior .

Truman aside, I'd like to see this car in lilac metallic. The big 60 Dodge was a wild

No kidding. Full wheel covers too. Are they somehow mounted on 15" wheels? I don't know how they would do it, it's hard to tell by the photo.

Missouri might have had a similar situation as North Dakota did many years ago. The taxing entity allowed a certain amount for each patrol car and the officer could buy whatever they wanted, but they had to make up the difference. The brother of a good friend was in the ND Highway Patrol and he always bought Buicks. Our county sheriff always drove a Chrysler New Yorker, and our city police chief bought a '58 Edsel...that he quickly traded for a '59 Ford.

Sparky

if you get the Chrysler Chronicle by James M. Flammang it tells you the Missouri Highway Patrol received a fleet of Dodges for '58 and shows you a sedan with these full wheel covers too.

The MSHP cruiser clearly has 14" (civilian) wheels on it.

Bank Of America[/QUOTE

I'm pleased to see a few 55 Dodges in this thread.
Just above a triple white 55 Custom Royal Lancer, the later version with the Custom medallion on the front fender.
A few pics earlier the 55 towed out of the mud is also a Custom Royal as well as the wrecked convertible further up.

Dodge Custom Royal Lancer D-500 loaded with 27 gold bars in the frame was captured by Swedish customs in 1958.
It's currently under restoration and might be seen on the Swedish roads in not so distant future.
