Dodge Custom Royal Lancer D-500 loaded with 27 gold bars in the frame was captured by Swedish customs in 1958.
It's currently under restoration and might be seen on the Swedish roads in not so distant future.

Thord,so it came into Gothenburg from England loaded with Gold,is the car on French plates in the picture?.

I guess you can tell that the Pommie Imperial lasted into the seventies because of all the more modern 'Briddish' cars around it?

Colorado Springs, CO.

Ah pikes peak and nevada. the building in the foreground on the left side, is being restored as the mining exchange. The big blue "modern" hotel on the right is long gone and is a parking lot now. The antlers is also long gone, replaced by a new antlers in the early 90s that is flanked by 2 14 story office buildings on either side. The Ute was knocked down in the 70's (and was a tragic loss from what i hear). The whole corner is now another office tower acutally. then from the arrow hotel back to the The intersection in the middle, aka pikes peak and tejon, is a parking lot, except for the northeast and northwest corners which are a mostly empty office tower and black marble bank building (it replaced that blue hotel). The theater on the left survives as the Peak theater, they are pretty awesome, you can get a beer at the bar and enjoy your movie.

1957 Dodge Custom Royal at South Tejon Street Looking North, Colorado Springs, Colrado

(1957 Dodge ForwardLook postcards)

Ok this one took me a second to figure out, so a lot of this is gone except for the background stuff, the exchange national is there as is the white building with the 3 tall windows, inbetween the two there are some holes (aka parking lots) now. Behind the exchange national you can see the big blue hotel from the other picture. From the ajax to the other bank is gone, replaced by a bank tower. Then red alamo hotel and foxes is still there as mackenzies chophouse and office space. Philips drugs and everything on the right is gone, replaced by a huge office plaza. The cannon is gone, as is the street actually, when they built the plaza of the rockies it was removed and cucharras dead ends one block to the right of this picture. The street is much much narrower here now as well, 1 lane in each direction. It widens back up at the colorado and tejon (where the white building is).

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Note that this Fuel Injected Adventurer is WHITE and gold. DeSoto also paraded a similar
F/I Adv coupe that was GOLD and white on the 58 auto show circuit.

Is it known for fact how many DeSotos got the F/I system ? If Tom White's car was a bonafide
F/I car, and these two show cars make it three .... I believe I have heard it said that four DeSotos
got the F/I, but I have never seen documentation for such. But if it was four, we now have images of
three of them.

BTW - I have never seen this shot (or car) before.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the 57-58 DeSotos are one of the most beautiful Forward Look designs ever, especially in the fin department! I wonder what became of the fuel injected hardtop in the photo.

according to this article: http://www.allpar.com/cars/desoto/electrojector.html

"According to a Bendix manual, two Plymouth Furys, 16 Chrysler 300s, 12 Dodge 500s and the five De Sotos, were built with the two-carburetor option and taken to a De Soto plant on Warren Avenue in Detroit to have the Electrojector system installed along with a 40-amp generator, electric fuel pump and a pair of "Fuel Injection" emblems. Unlike today's cars, in which mechanics have to remove the gas tank to gain access to the fuel pump, Chrysler installed a black metal cover over a cutout in the trunk floor of the 1958 models to make access to the coffee maker-size fuel pump easier."

If you scroll waaay back up there, to the Cannon Restaurant photo, you'll see an early case of LDS (Limp Deck Syndrome)
on that 57 Dodge (which might be a D500 model, too).

Interesting monotone Firedome with aftermarket exterior mirror (odd placement) and
dual rear antennas .... again, odd placement. Still, it retains the typical (even on a lo-buk
car) full face wheel covers.

Fun to see these atypical builds like this.

After seeing your original post, it was too much to not do a Google search on the Chicago
auto show and I arrived at the same site. Studying the floor plan map, I was hoping to see
some shots of the Lincoln display that might show the DeSotos from a side angle. There is
a Fireflite convertible up in the back, right corner of that shot that *could* possibly be my
car. But alas, none are posted on that site.

So, if five DeSotos were so fitted with the electro-jector F/I, we now know what 3 looked
like. Is White's car a confirmed F/I car ? I do not recall that ever being officially verified.

Did people really trade FL Mopars on Edsels?

Or have they bought in stock because they weren't selling Edsels?

The dealership seems to have a selection of different makes. In our area, it was usually the trade-ins for new cars that would up in the used section.

In the 1960 Daytona 500 (the second year that the race was run on the paved Tri-Oval course), Richard Petty drove #43.

He started in 19th and finished in 3rd.

Lee Petty drove #42; he started in 14th and ended up in 4th!

Junior Johnson won, driving a 59 Chubbie.

Ol #93, there, is nun-other than Banjo Matthews, who had a middling day; he was driving Sunbeam System's 59 Turdbird
and, after starting out in 22nd, he finished in 19th, running, and covered 193 of the 200 laps by the race's end.

So, in the above photo, the Banjo is probably getting himself lapped by the Pettys.

But how did that happen,he's got 25 HP more than either of the Plymouths.

As they say, the 'Bird has the aerodynamics of a brick (and, no "directional stability")

Bud Burdick's 59 Birdster garnered 11th, after starting in 18th; top birdie.

There were 4 Tee/burds entered: 11th, 19th, 25th, and 44th, out of 68(!!) entries.
