I dont see many 1960 Ford Galaxies or Fairlanes driving around or at shows either. As far as Ford products go the 1960's Starliners my favorite after the 1957 Lincoln premiere coupe.

The 1960 Edsmell copied the 59 Pontiac Grille! %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% I like the 58 Edsel .... drastic, but with enough sheetmetal curves that "worked" to pull it off. And I like the 60. Rarely seen and funky, ... it also "worked" for what it was. The 59 ???? Good Gawd ! What an ugly POS ! Just a flat sided, square box with ugly, clashing trim details glued on the sides. When people say "ugly Edsel", on this one I totally agree. Out of curiosity, was the 60 Edsel offered in a body type like the Starliner with that 57 Plymouth type roof ?

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Sure it was....I've got some pics taken at Hot August Nites, a few years-back, of a sweeet 60 Deadsel 'fastback', in a light limey-green (that is: not BRG...) motif. Speaking of limeys, just saw the delightful movie "Paul", on HBO TV, tonite!

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: Auburndale Florida | Those places in those pics used to so beautiful but most likely not anymore. I really like the Edsels, what you see on the production 60 Edsel originally had a some what a slimmer version of the 58/9 grille that I like more than the grille it has now. Original 60 edsel disign front. http://www.flickr.com/photos/edsel-net/911632543/sizes/l/in/photost...

Must have been a dealers idea to paint it as the dimensions do not look quite correct. I should do that on the back wall of my garage. I know my wife would love that... ha.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | In 1959, did Plymouth really offer a 2-tone treatment, where the commodious appendage would be painted in the second color? The '60 vert is lacking that feature, on it; thought that it was standard equipment on the Furys ("Good taste is never extreme"). Edited by d500neil 2012-05-26 3:06 PM

I am clueless as to how "the factory" did it, but I remember seeing the toilet seats occasionally painted in an "accent" color. I have always been wretched out by those things, so I figured that the kind of guy who liked them must have figured "the more, the merrier" and painted it in contrasting color to make it stand out even more. Were it a "fashion trend" today, the kids would be painting the thing bright marker green and adding neon lights to the rings !
