In 1959, did Plymouth really offer a 2-tone treatment, where the commodious appendage would be painted in the second color?

The '60 vert is lacking that feature, on it; thought that it was standard equipment on the Furys ("Good
taste is never extreme").

The Plymouth toilet seats were a bolt on affair, so if someone ordered one over the parts counter I suppose it would have come in basic "White" which would go with any color of car.

As to the Imperial and Chrysler models, the toilet seat as you call it, ( I prefer "bird bath" ) was pressed into the deck lid, in fact it was a completely different deck lid.

However on my own Chrysler, the area inside the chrome ring has been painted a contrasting color to match the roof and side spear, which was a not factory offering, but I like it and am gonna leave it that way!

Ian, I think I feel your ride is the most amazing car Chrysler released and one of my favorites of all. Your a very lucky man. The color is fantastic.

I didn't call it a toilet seat....but, the question remains: was the "bird bath" an option on all 59-60 (non-wagon) Plymouths?

I agree. I REALLY like Ian's car .... right up to that toilet seat ! If it were my car, THAT would
have to go ! I like the indented stripe much better.

But since it IS Ian's car, I just have to razz him about it !

It really is a striking example of a 60 Chrysler.

"COMMODious" appendage = toilet seat I don't know if they were optional on all models of 59 Plymouths but I would imagine they would be an easy install since they were a bolt-on job complete with a rubber edge around the perimeter.

Actually I prefer the term "Continental Tire Outline"

I agree that the deck lid is more sleek with the indented center section on the lid BUT this one certainly garners lots of attention and is often a focal point of discussion!

So, ... did Mopar offer a fin mounted rolled paper dispenser to go with their
"continental tire outline" ?

No; you had to go back inside the car to get to the tissue dispenser...or, you just took some of it with you, when you
went 'topside', to do your tour of doodie.

I agree,Imopar380's Chrysler is beautiful,I especially love the color. Wasn't the official name of the deck lid "fake tire" indentation called "flight sweep"?

Ian's car looks just great...

And don't think I haven't seen all the little sneaky Euro cars in the background of some of the pics, I have just been avoiding commenting about them.

My photo processor made a very nice 8x10" closely-cropped image of this car, from the postcard, and photo chopped the
gray Dodge's antenna mast from having extended across the 57's body.

That daly City photo is really something...from the sepia tone, the edge curvy, the look of our gentleman, suit and tie, nonchalant attitude, waiting for the attendant to pump his .22 cent gas, the air pump, the gas pumps, the Blue Chip Stamps(!), and the beautiful beast he is so proud of. it all rings of Krushev, pre-Sputnik, Eisenhower confidence in an America that is long, long cherished and well remembered. Did anyone ever really get a bomb shelter? this sh!t is worth a fortune!
Ah bliss...!

I have this postcard that I thought featured a 57 or 58 Dodge, but now that I can take a closer look at it, I do not know what car this is.

It's hard to tell, does anybody know what make/model car this is ?

It's not your fault. The link is broken. It points to "webkit-fake-url" instead of "http", and the rest of the address looks mangled too.

Ray Bell - 2012-06-05 12:10 AM So, what is there that those of us keen to see "Louisville, KY.jpg" can do about it?

Is this any better?

Here's the response when I right click on it and click on 'open image in new tab':

Duplicate headers received from the server
The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. Only the website or proxy administrator can fix this issue.
Error 349 (net::ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION): Multiple distinct Content-Length headers received. This is disallowed to protect against HTTP response-splitting attacks.

I edited the picture and saved it for web use, I really don't know what could be wrong...
