I've shown it here before, but I now have the actual postcard, scanned it and located the motel
The incredible is that this Motel is still in operation, the same way as it was in 1959!

I'm not sure Ray, would it be any filters on your computer or this site? I remember someone posting about not being able to see pics here, because of certain settings.

I am also unable to see any of hemidave's photos, and thought I was the only one. Where are your photos hosted? Might it be necessary to be registered on the site where your photos are hosted, in order to be able to view them?

The photos work fine for me too.
Might be time to pay someone to look at your computer and check things out.
Maybe you are using an outdated browser or something on your machine. There is nothing wrong with Dave's photos, the problems are on your own computer.

I am having the same issue here at work (but not at home). My theory is that Dave is linking to a photo sharing service, rather than uploading directly. Here at work, photo sharing services (picasa, shutterfly, etc.) are blocked for security reasons.

When I click on the link at the bottom of the post, I get this message:

Duplicate headers received from server

The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. Only the website or proxy administrator can fix this issue.
Error 349 (net::ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION): Multiple distinct Content-Disposition headers received. This is disallowed to protect against HTTP response splitting attacks.

I am curious about the flag flying from the pole of this Quebec restaurant. Was this an early attempt at a national flag for Canada which did not rely on a defaced Red Ensign? I remember there was an effort to create a new banner for Canada in 1964-67 to take advantage of the excitement surrounding the upcoming 100th anniversary of Confederation (1967) and the World's Fair in Montreal, Expo 67.

Bringing those piccies down to size:

The next problem is, of course, that the whole page is now the width of the widest photo, so text that should be able to be read without problems requires that you scroll across and back to read it.

Can we please put a limit on photo width? There's absolutely no point in posting pics that are bigger than your screen, is there?

Used car department circa 1958 at Dobbs Chevrolet-Buick, Alexander City, Alabama. Although the Chebby dealership has long since closed, this building in downtown Alex City still stands today as the Wellborn Musclecar Museum, whose website I copied this picture from. The Wellborn museum is worth a look, with many hot-rod performance vehicles from the 60s/70s, and a preference toward Engel-era muscle Mopars. Alexander City is convenient to Atlanta, Birmingham, Columbus, Montgomery, and other cities in the Southeast USA, and this museum is an ideal stopping-off place for the average gearhead. Come visit, it's worth it!

Most likely Castlereagh dragstrip, about eight miles from where I'm sitting at the moment... I drove right past there tonight...

It's no longer operative. But it was from the late fifties through to about the eighties, the indicators in the photos (latest models of other cars present in the pics) show the pics to have probably been taken about 1966. The light green Holden with the sun visor is a 63/64 model, but there's a white car in the background of one pic with a black roof which is a '66 or '67 model. The visible numberplates are all yellow, which was a exclusive to New South Wales in those times, thereby placing the location as Castlereagh.

The engine in the little dragster is most likely a 179 cubic inch version of the Holden 7-bearing six which came out with the '63 models. The blue car with registration AOR-220 is a Holden of the late '52 through early '54 type, which has a 4-bearing six of about 132ci, while the Valiant station wagon in the background of that pic will be familiar enough to Mopar people.

De Sotos were very rare here, possibly fewer than a hundred a year sold in those times, they were locally assembled by Buckle Motors and 1959 was the last model they imported.

I wish I had a picture of my Windsor when it was new, and where it was living.
