"accordion" buses

the subway is this - red blue green and orange line. silver line is commuter

rail (buddliner)

im on the orange line...

that green and white car is the b car (boston college) commonwealth ave.

the green line is - b - bc c - cleveland cir. (brookline) d - riverside -

Hey Steve,

Yeah, I know about the Boeing-Vertols and the Japanese cars on the Green Line.

They do have one "picture window" PCC, car 3295, for special charters for use on the Green Line. It now sports a pantograph and the old MTA orange paint.

I do need to get back to Boston for a visit as I haven't been there since 1974!

Long Beach Freeway, circa 1960:

The last time I was there we went a wee bit further up the road and ended up in this Cafe and my girlfriend knew who owned all the houses on the beachside across from it one was at that time (2000)Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's (i think she's still there) and another was Janet Jacksons' both had '50s cars under car covers one was a FL and I think the other was a square T-Bird,did anybody else notice them or is it just me that remembers stuff like this,I google earthed their houses now but can't make out any cars.

Adrianna, I'll bet you REALLY wanted to win that PC with the tan wagon in it!

Also, do you have any issues of the TV show "Car 54 Where Are You"?

i actually bought the crappy postcard with the barely visible blue fury from the guy on ebay... and the asked if he had anymore... he had the other 5... i did him a deal on all 6, ive wanted the one with the beige wagon for ages, but it is a expensive postcard when it hits ebay, these came from lithuania... i especially love to get the old photos... they are probably my favourites... i have bootleg dvd copies of the car 54 shows (they are really bad quality) and i have two of the "car 54" dell comic books that feature the squad car... you'll see them in my album... what im looking for is the car 54 board game and colouring kit which both feature the '61 squad car... im also looking for leave it to beaver on dvd... cheers adriana

These were taken in Fort Worth, Texas during 1964. I've posted some of these before. At a time when a number of big stores began leaving traditional downtowns to relocate in the suburbs, Leonard's Department Store decided to remain Downtown. They bought some land about a mile and a half away. They built a huge parking lot there and linked it to the store with a mile and a half subway, using some rebuilt trolley cars they purchased secondhand from Washington, DC.

I like the view of the Fury's exhaust pipes; look to be 2" o.d./1 .75" i.d. ?

The driver's side pipe also looks to be longer than the passenger-side, but is that an illusion, from the bumper being
pushed forward; the wing looks like it's sitting at a funny angle, but I don't see any obvious evidence of impacts
on the bumper.

Are its wheels painted black?

Those Farts, and a Boo-yuck, are TRADE-IN's; can't hardly blame their owners--that's called Conquest Sales.

This photo was taken July 4th, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario.

The streetcar seen in this picture is still owned the Toronto transit system as a historic vehicle and it can be chartered.

I do not know the fate of the Mopar next to it.......

Adriana -

Those are great pix you posted.

One little request .... can you include locations to your jpg code or otherwise ? It is real fun to know where these pix were taken. I would SWEAR that photo of the kid on the tricycle wheeling past the bent-fin Plymouth was shot at the old military housing north of Poulsbo !

Thanks.

MAN, Jim; you are GOOD (I don't care what anyone ELSE says!!)

Yeah, this pic was taken TODAY (on my 59th birthday; 7/24/09, for the record).

Used a print out of the former-posting of the DeSoto PC to (easily) find the place where it had been taken.

Both of their large Elm trees (the motel is located on Elm St.) were cut down, long ago---you can see them
suffering from Dutch Elm (Beetle) Disease, in that summer of around-1960.

Happy B-day 2-moi!

I did not yet fade it out..., yet. I thought about how to rempve it before, and kinda replace it with something forward look...

But that will be done, just a matter of time.

Here's another fun one (I think): Thieme's Inn, 303 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg VA.

I found the exact same building still in use, on Google Earth's Street View. Can you imagine? Don't need to, just look for yourself...

There's some kind of business in the building now, College of William and Mary Lynn Riggs. and I've sent them an email with a copy of this (incredible) postcard, but didn't hear from them, yet.

It's located here on Google Maps.

And eh, oh yeah, it's a 1957 Dodge Custom Royal Convertible D500. Pretty unique, I'd say...

It's conceivable, and highly probable, that ALL four DeSotos in these last four PC's belonged to the photographer.

Certainly, the Desert Villa & Bay View have the same kibitzing Soto in their parking areas, and the photog
obviously liked to have a distinctive car!

I believe that was determined earlier. His car sure screams for attention.

Yeah, but: the Elms Motel and the Buellton Motel are NEW submissions!!!---I get credit for Finding-Waldo, in the
Elms Motel pic, and in the Buellton, too.

This PC photog should get his OWN thread!

How about a Forward Look Era dealership?

BTW, the two trolleys in the foreground ran between Milwaukee and Chicago until early 1963. These particular cars weighed 52 tons each and had a top speed of 90 mph.

Believe it!

Great pic, Kenny... but more other makes than Chryslers in that dealership? Other makes and older models, that is.

Look carefully, Ray, they are waiting at the crossing gate.

Bad things happened to those who wouldn't wait and drove around the gates instead........

Whoops... I should have looked more carefully, shouldn't I?

That old Ford would seem to have reached the end of its road. And any occupants theirs, too.

Not your basic, tame Melbourne trams, eh?

Trust me... they've claimed their share too...

And don't forget, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth... and I think Hobart and Launceston and Newcastle as well... used to run trams. Adelaide still has one service, IIRC.

we have ugly new trams over here, the double seats are so small that your bum hangs over the side, so ridiculous! bring back the old trams!!

doc 'soto... i never even thought to keep track of where the postcards are from... i got a new one that neil alerted me to, of a '61 suburban in california that has either a turquoise, lavender or red roof... damb colour blindness!! i originally thought it was the turquoise/ white wagon that we know of in california, but everytime i look at the postcard the roof looks like a different colour so now im not sure... ill post a pic, can you tell me what colour it is? its so small... adriana

Ray---here's a good non-FWDLK question: why isn't there (????) a cross-OZ railway?

And if there is one (should-be), how cum it isn't, like, World-Famous-----probably just too-much Outback to cross
compared to air-travel-time-convenience?
