Steve Miles has just released his second book of American cars in England during the '60s,I believe the earliest picture in the latest volume is of a '57 300C in Kensington in 1960.He has over 10,000 images of these cars taken in London area to get through,so get these volumes ordered and we'll get to see more.

A mini Desoto...

...with a nice A-Series International Harvester Travelall parked behind it. The stacked-headlight B-Series
front end looked better, but the A will do in this case.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

My old man's company kept a fleet of International trucks ... from pickups to semi tractors. When I was
very young they were all those A and B series trucks. I was too young to remember who, but someone
there gave me a metal toy version of the A-series semi with a flatbed trailer, lettered for his company.
20 years ago I bought an A-series 4x4 1 ton pickup. What a beast. It won't go fast, but it will go anywhere
you point it. I prefer the single headlight and sharper edged headlight bezels on the A-series trucks.

So, in some ironic twist, I own a version of both those vehicles.

Mark, back in the Day, those places were called "Filling Stations" or, in Conoco (Continental Oil Co.) and Ashland Oil's
instances: SERVICE Stations.

Check out the male employees, there.

Whatever happened to male employees?

Brent, if you could go back in time, and tell that Firesweep vert's owner that his car was going to be very valuable (in 30 more years)
he'd probably have said : "Yeah? well give me 500bux for it, right now, and it's yours."

He almost certainly kept driving that car til it fell apart, or sold it to someone else (-kid), who drove it, til it fell apart.

Sad.
OK,here are The Service Stations

Pretty much JUST like that !

I don't have any pix of it on my laptop, or I'd post one. I think I posted a pic of it in
an ancient thread, but would have no clue how to locate it. Mine is odd, in that it has
a 9ft. box. Seems to me, this one looks a little "smaller" than mine too (?).

Vedette's first picture has an Australian Chrysler in it, consisting of '56 Plymouth rear fenders and trim on a 1953-54 Plymouth/Dodge body. Interesting how Chrysler Australia managed to do that.

Yes, a Chrysler Royal AP1, 1957/'58 model, with the same chassis etc as the De Sotos below it...

It also has 4" of extra length in the body between the rear window (another obvious change) and the trunk lid to make it obviously longer and give more overhang.

The "AP" stands for "Australian Production" or "Australian Plymouth", depending on who's telling the story.

And, the PT Cruiser's name was originally meant to signify : "Plymouth Truck".

Not really; students of our "Craigslist" message board will have learned that the '58 (and '57? oops...) CAN Ply's have that
unique circumferential series of grooves running around their 'Moon'-disc wheel covers.
