Location: Parts Unknown | The coffee shot is one of a series where the "drive" was tested before installation. For those unfamiliar with the Space Needle, the top (the frame of which you see here) revolves, making a full 360 circle in one hour. Note the clock in the background leaning against this frame, likely there as part of the test.

Location: Parts Unknown | Note the F$#@ING freeway being ripped across the landscape there on the side of north Capitol Hill, destroying the most historic neighborhoods in the city all along it's route. Just like finned cars were hated in 1965 - 1985, grand old Victorian homes were nothing but freeway fodder in the Eisenhower Age.

Location: Parts Unknown | Who was the maker of those VW-like vans you see parked along the fence ? Looking at it again, I guess that isn't a fence, but a row of windows in a wall. Same question though. And what is the car parked crosswise in front of the 55-6 Ford wagon ? Edited by Doctor DeSoto 2012-08-23 5:03 AM

Expert Posts: 2478 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | I don't believe it... the Doc doesn't know something! They were made by Volkswagenwerk, they are early through mid-sixties VW Kombis or Transporters. The one on the right between the GM trucks is perhaps the latest model of them all in the pic.

Location: Parts Unknown | Ray, Thanks for the vote of confidence. Those don't look like any VW I have ever seen. I once owned a 58 and a friend just restored a 56. Yes, there are VW's in the photo, like the one you pointed out. These have the "beak" front end just like all the VW's I have seen up to about what ... 1968 ? I am talking about the monotoned light colored ones parked up that side of the street.
