Veteran Posts: 124 | I continue to be amazed at these glimpses of my earliest life. Even the places I lived nowhere near are familiar looking, especially the cars. I have always been so into the cars, and I have seen so many in this thread depicted as I recall them, not as show vehicles, but as totally approachable work-a-day grocery getters. I grew up in the Boston/Providence area and I particularly loved that picture of Boston, from April of 1955. That is a bit before my time and it is nice to see what the place looked like before it went to hell in the 1970's. Here is a 56 Plymouth with a seemingly bulging roof that I noticed in a painting recently: Edited by Valiant_200 2013-03-16 5:28 AM (56_plymouth_painting.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56_plymouth_painting.jpg (179KB - 264 downloads)

Location: Parts Unknown | Crowley Lake is just up the road from Der Vedder Haus. A quick google search of the images lines up the background peak line perfectly. No trace the quaint old desert resort shown, but I can't imagine the California mindset letting that stand.

Now, most folks subjected to spanish language influences would pronounce this "Boo-ay-na Vee-stah" Locals call it "Bew-na Vist-uh".

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Here are a few post cards from my home Province, of British Columbia ( BC ) Note the Osoyoos on the Lake photo, looks like desert country - that's because it basically is. Osoyos can easily hit temps of 100' F in the summer and the lake temp. 75-80' F. On the east side of the Cascade Range here in the northwest it's a very different climate from the west side. Ask Dr. DeSoto what he thinks of the climate on the west side. Ask Dr. DeSoto what he thinks of the climate on the west side. :stressed: ================================================= Osoyoos gets mighty cold too. Just like where I live. The west / wet side is mild by comparison in terms of temps. It just typically gets a LOT of dark, grey days or rain. Not exactly MY idea of nice car weather. Ian lives in a weird spot ... the "rain shadow" behind the Olympic Mountains, which get ALL the rain and then all the rain the shadow would get too ! I think it has the highest rainfall in the lower 48 ? It's a beautiful place when the sun is out and charmingly cozy when you can escape the rain and just enjoy being inside. But if you're an always outdoor kind of person who is no friend of rust, the even-keel cool weather and rather constant precip make the old car pursuit a bit aggravating. It is the only place I've seen moss grow on cars like carpet, if that is any indicator !

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Doctor DeSoto - 2013-03-19 9:24 AM Get a load of that stripper 59 Pontiac in the Vancouver, BC shot ! That 59 Pontiac is probably a Canadian Strato-Chief ( Low end model ) complete with a 261 CID six cylinder truck engine and 3 speed manual, or it could be a Powerglide automatic. My parents had one, a mid-range Laurentian with the six and Powerglide but it had full wheel covers and the stars on the quarter panel, like what were on the US Star Chief. They rode on a Chevy chassis and narrow track like Chevies. The engine options were just like the Chevy, 283 and 348. Strato-Chief looks like a Catalina Laurentian looks like a Star Chief Parisienne looks like a Bonneville but has the small tail lights like Catalina. Edited by imopar380 2013-03-19 3:18 PM

Location: Parts Unknown | I can't say I can identify it as a factory creation, although the heavy wheel well creases remind me of a Buick show car. The A-pillar is 59-60 GM, while the C-pillar looks 57-58 Caddy or senior Buick. A factory show or styling exercise car ? A custom let go to seed ? The Sterling Heights location might support the former ? I really don't know.

Sounds an awful lot like today's minivan, doesn't it? I understand that one did get destroyed by Warhoops.
