This car sits low enough on its chassis to suggest that it is a D500 model.

And, it's probably not red and white, either.

What a great photo.

As a companion photo, it would be great to see a 1958 "Swept-Wing" next to the Boeing 707 that American Airlines inaugurated that year.

Great idea. The first commercial flight of the Boeing 707 was Pan American's "Clipper America" -- New York to Paris on October 26, 1958.

Since many of the 1959 models had appeared on the showroom floor, I was inspired to shoot my first "Cars of 1959" photos a few years back against the backdrop of the Museum of Flight's retired Air Force One -- a 707. See unrestored, original examples of '59 Dodge, Oldsmobile, and Buick.

Sorry , but I thought I had to make some changes in the way I put postcards on the web, causing my prior posted links to not work anymore. I'll delete them, later.
I am trying to set up some sort of web page with all postcards neatly together and give it the look and feel that we're so used to through all these years.

So, here they are again.

1957 Dodge Custom Royal Convertible at Castle Cafe in Cambria, Clifornia

1957 Dodge Coronet on Broadway in Lorain, Ohio

1957 Dodge Custom Royal Convertible D500 at Thieme's Inn in Wiliamsburg, Virginia

This is great work Jim on the before and after shots, even though sometimes I'm not so keen on the after pics, and that '58 DeSoto Firedome is famous in this thread, due to the colour of it's hood-look back a couple of pages.

It is reasonably easy to tell the difference between the 58 DeSotos if you know the "clues" to look for. The Sweep has the short Dodge nose with the heavy chrome eyebrows. The Sweep and Dome share the same small (low) rear window, but the Dome will have the long DeSoto-Chrysler nose. Fireflite and Adventurer have the high backglass and DeSoto-Chrysler nose. Triangular aluminum rear sweep inserts and colors gold, white, or black (six possible combinations) will set an Adventurer apart. Other clues that can be hard to see in distant photos are side trim stopping aft the front wheel opening - Sweep/Dome - where this carries all the way forward to the headlight on Flite and Adv. Adv. also has the stainless decklid bars. Clear as mud, eh ?

The first photo is St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1966.

The second two are Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Those oversize trolley cars used the city streets for about three miles before reaching open track to Chicago, where they would routinely cruise at 80-90 mph.

I remember patched headlight brows and quarter panels by the mid 1960s. Older folks called it "retroactive air conditioning."

K.

P.S.- It also hurts when I see members take their cars into the salted streets during winter. But then again, some criticize me for driving mine in the rain, even though washing a car gets it's wet, too!

Somebody traded in their '58 Plymouth for a Ferd. Can you find it?

This might help

I think there's a '60 Dodge too!

Got a 58 Belvedere with single bar side behind the 59 Buick out back. Got a Valiant in the left center row.

I still think the 60 Ford is an honorary FL car. I would love to own either of those two Dorfs in the front "point" position !

In Re: the Chrysler show cars, depicted above; most of them are now in private hands.

The Dodge Firearrow & Firebomb sold individually, last year at the B-J for $ 1Mil-each, iirc, and the Plymouth
Belmont has changed hands a couple time; the DeSoto Adventurer-II, in the front row has appeared at the B-J
iirc, and the K300, at the 2:00 position, also crossed the B-J block, I recall.

My personal fav, the DeSoto Adventurer-I has whereabouts unknown, and Ex Jr. has said that it may have been crushed, after
Ex Sn. had driven it regularly---but, I'd also heard that it had got shipped to So. America---hope that's true, because
I really want this car still to exist, somewhere, as being a sort of Lost Dutchman Goldmine.

As far as the other three cars are concerned (1,3, and 9-o'clock positions) , does the former-Corp still own them????

Why? 'Cause he's still wearing his CYA (CA Youth Authority) shirt?

I'm not sure if it sold at BJ, but the '54 Dodge Firearrow coupe in the center of that picture is currently in north Texas. Last I saw it, it was parked next to the Hudson Italia, a Ghia L 6.4, and a '57 Dual Ghia. Pretty nice group.

What is that print from? I gotta show the owner of the Firearrow. That is too cool.

..That photo has been seen in several publications, but this is the first color rendition of it that
I can ever recall having seen.

Both the Firearrow and the Firebomb sold for $1-Mil each, plus commissions.

I'd recommend getting to know its/their owner REAL well....

************************************

Note the short sidetrim bar on the fender. This is a Firedome. Also note the dog dish hubcaps. This is a real stripper. Now, look at the background. This is some sort of government "campus". This car is likely a fleet order car for a gov't agency. The grey would suggest Dept. of Navy. Wonder if it was a stick car ???

It looks as if the top sidetrim bar on the door is missing on this rather new car. Possibly removed to fit a logo ?

Geez I could look at these all day . . . that NYC Kodachrome, second from the top, is a real time warp.

I can almost taste that cold 20 cent Rheingold draft at the RED ROSE BAR. Hey, CABBIE!
