Here is one that I spotted in a J.C. Penney TV commercial, currently airing nationwide.

Is that a 57 or 58 Savoy hiding behind that Mercedes?

Commenced in 1934, with minor variations still selling in 1956. That's the Citroen 'Light 15', there was also a very similar (but obviously larger) 6-cylinder model called the 'Big 6'.

Look up Francois Lecot some time.

About the Traction Avant:
- Available in 7, 11 and 15 "HP". 7 and 11 were 4 cylinders, the 15 was 6 (and called "Traction Avant 15/6" or "15-Six").
- During the 1934 autoshow, there were also the 22 models displayed, equipped with a V8 engine. Those ones are the holy grail of any Citroën enthusiast.

Port Alberni, BC. Canada. ( on Vancouver Island )

56 Plymouth in back ground, but note the 1958 Meteor Custom 300 in front.

Port Alberni is the "hot spot" on Vancouver Island, with summer temps. that can approach 40 C / 100 F

Yup, that bugger's got a Dodge grille and bumper on it.

However, special note should be made that this is likely a Canadian ISLAND market car, using the
cut down DeSoto dash with Imperial radio knobs and Chrysler seat bolster fabric.

Brent, you're correct - that is a 1960 Meteor Montcalm in the Alberta photo above! My older brother had a blue 60 Montcalm four door hardtop back around 1965 that he drove from his post in Whitehorse, Yukon air force base, down the Al-Can ( Alaska) Highway home to Victoria. The highway at that time was mostly gravel I believe. Then he traded it in on a brand new 65 Falcon Futura sport coupe.

OK, ... since we're on the subject, ... what is the relevance of the name "Montcalm" ?

Sounds like some nonsense word meaning "town of peace". I suspect it has French origins (?)

OK, ... since we're on the subject, ... what is the relevance of the name "Montcalm" ?

Sounds like some nonsense word meaning "town of peace". I suspect it has French origins (?)

Brent, this is the reference to Montcalm from the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec. ( from Wickipedia)

The Battle of the Plains of Abraham, also known as the Battle of Quebec, was a pivotal battle in the Seven Years' War (referred to as the French and Indian War in the United States). The battle, which began on 13 September 1759, was fought between the British Army and Navy, and the French Army, on a plateau just outside the walls of Quebec City, on land that was originally owned by a farmer named Abraham Martin, hence the name of the battle.

The battle involved fewer than 10,000 troops between both sides, but proved to be a deciding moment in the conflict between France and Britain over the fate of New France, influencing the later creation of Canada.

The culmination of a three-month siege by the British, the battle lasted about 15 minutes. British troops commanded by General James Wolfe successfully resisted the column advance of French troops and Canadian militia under Louis-Joseph, Marquis de Montcalm, using new tactics that proved extremely effective against standard military formations used in most large European conflicts. Both generals were mortally wounded during the battle; Wolfe received a blow that would end his life within only a few minutes of engagement and Montcalm died the next morning after receiving a musket ball wound just below his ribs. In the wake of the battle, France's remaining military force in Canada and the rest of North America came under increasing pressure from British forces.

While the French forces continued to fight and prevailed in several battles after Quebec was captured, the British did not relinquish their hold on the fortress. That tenacity carried over to other areas in North America; within four years, with the Treaty of Paris, most of France's possessions in eastern North America would be ceded to Great Britain.

Other Meteor series names were Rideau, and Niagara. Rideau is named for the Rideau Canal which connects Ottawa, ON to Kingston, ON both on Lake Ontario. Niagara is named after the Niagara Peninsula, the portion of Southern Ontario, lying between the south shore of Lake Ontario and the north shore of Lake Erie. Typically many Canadian specific model series were named after something to do with Canada. The Monarch had series names of Richelieu ( Richelieu River in Quebec) and Lucerne,( not sure on this one) both French names as well. Pontiac had a Laurentian model named after the Laurentian Mountains in Quebec. And then there was the Pontiac Parisienne..... another French name but maybe not related to Quebec. The US built Bonneville was also a French name.

There is one that shows up at Cruisin' The Coast pretty much every year. The first time I saw it I had to google it to figure out what it was. Looked like a 61 Mercury to me. These pics are from 2011.
