You can really appreciate how un-Worldly the 1961 Dodge's design was, in the above photo; it's as if the car had just
landed on Earth, compared to the architecture and clothing styles.

It is too bad that Dodge located the headlights so low in the grille, though.

The frontal appearance has the car looking somewhat surprised and worried.

Its 'expression' is akin to some caricature as would be drawn by Big Daddy, Ed Roth.

============================================================

If you look at pretty much all the cars offered for 61 (the slant eyed Chrysler and DeSoto excepted),
they all took a hard left turn that year for a look I find hard to put words to. Bizarre, strained, worried,
depressed/depressing. I think "dour' fits it best. I guess it is all subjective in how we "read" that look,
but it's undeniable that cars had a new theme of "facial expression" in 1961 - particularly the GM cars.
Plymouth and Dodge certainly had that look too.

Those two photos of the 56 and 61 Dodges are amazing in how radical and fast the styling changed
back then. Only 5 years separated those two designs. Hard to believe you would fit the 57-58, 59, and
60 in there between them !!! And to think 62 would be another radical change, as would what followed.

The good news is carmakers got over that and now they all look like bars of soap with lines scratched
in the sides. Last year the scratches went down at the back. This year they're a little more flat. Maybe
next year they'll turn up a little and then go down ? That'll be AWESOME !!!!

That Convertible needs checking in, not out. What's up with that ride? Looks like a real Mongrel, or is it a Canuk? Doc, you like the mirrors?

The photo with the iced Ferd(?) and the 61 Dodge is pure misery.

That convertible is somewhere in Europe, probably Sweden, because of the Euro-style registration plates on it. It should be a Dodge Kingsway, but how it came to have a Plymouth script on it is a mystery.

Pity the driver of the snowbound Stude. Winters with lots of snow are no fun, if my experiences of growing up in the U. S. state of Iowa have anything to do with it.

OK, paradigm check !

Does the snow suck, or do our EXPECTATIONS that life will go on as free and unobstructed
as they would on a sunny, summer day cause us to only see the snow as a hassle and a
negative ????

If one sees the snow as an adventure and all time commitments now bend to we call "existing
conditions", then what's the issue ? Who could not use a little workout time on the end of a
snow shovel ? Is anyonehere really in top physical condition ? It's all in your perception, based
on your paradigm, my friends !

Like going through the TSA security at the airport. Are we going to accept the reality at hand ..
(existing conditions) ? Or shall we b!tch about the hassle because we EXPECT an outcome different
than reality ?

I live where 5-10 feet of snow on the ground is nothing unusual. I see more international airports
than the average bear. Boy, do I hear a lot of complaining about the realities people REFUSE TO
ACCEPT !

Avarell's car looks to be a 56 Imp limo, with roof racks!

This thread is almost like an addictive drug (for me and others I bet!) for FL spotters who weren't (or couldn't be) there. It gives the ability for those who love these cars an insight into the 'day''. I love it!

This website has made me appreciate modern technology. I consider myself lucky. Keep the photos coming.

I've seen photos of a lot of restored cars. Yet when I see good quality photos that were taken when the classic cars were truly NEW it always seems like the cars in the true new car photos STILL look nicer then even the very best restorations. This Caddy just looks so clean and crisp. I wonder if any of it has to do with the "quality" of good FILM compared to what we get with digital cameras. or something....

Jim, what we're seeing in contemporary "images" is over-restoration, with too-bright/deep colors and clear-coated paint.

And, many times, the interiors/tires/engines are not reproduced accurately, which ruins the vintage-effect of looking at them.

Buncha mundane car models there; one 59 Crappie, no verts; and that's a Saratoga 2-dr; nicest car I can see anywhere on the lot.

Lots of thin pillars with plenty of glass! No trucks, SUV's or mini-vans like you'd see today.

No, but plenty of wagons, the suv of the day.

4x4 vehicles were not common place general people carriers then like they are today, they were military and construction vehicles really.

He's a factory yard-watchman.

Led Zeppelin wrote about that woman's reign.

You probably could get a Chrysler from that dealership for a song.

Two photos of  41 Chrysler owned by someone in my family, could have been my Dad.

The writing on the back of the winter photo says "St Marys Park Big Snow of 1947 - 24 inches our new 41 chrysler".  I assume they meant "new" to them since it says it was in 47.

The other photo is without the snow on the car and my Sister is in front of it.
