Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | That's race car driver Buck Baker appearing with the stow-aways, up above here. What makes this car ( a four door sedan, BTW) so interesting, is that it is one of the very few cars which are historically-seen to have the "D501"-style D500 emblem on it. There were two slightly-different styles-sizes to the 57 D500 emblem, and this one was obviously made by the subcontractor which later produced the D501 emblems. Jim's 'windmill' photo was taken in Solvang, CA---a sort of pseudo-Dutch town. The car has a continental kit on it, which may be holding down its rear end. It's also got the rare power fender-antenna option, and, "curb-feelers" installed on the DRIVER'S side of the car(???) The L. Welk photo was later photographically modified and sandwiched onto the L.A. station KABC's backdrop. That Royal 2-dr HT photo has an incredible amount of detail in it---you can read its WI license plate information on it! It is the only 57 Dodge that I've seen which is (probably-) all-OEM red in color, and, it looks like its end-of-fin plates are black, too (supposed to be "bright aluminum" pieces, like the Custom Royal models have on them). Elite Veteran Posts: 663 Location: Oakley, Ill | About that $8,000 home; you will notice that it says "ON YOUR LOT". I recall the houses in the Detroit area suburb of Garden City for that kind of money. That was exactly what you got--the house--no driveway, no walkways, no black dirt, no garage, if you were somewhere without city water and sewer, you had to come up with a well and septic tank, too. My Social Security history sheet says that median family income was under $3,800, meaning that a median income family would not qualify to buy that house, because they were kind of particular about who they loaned money to, and a pretty standard rule of thumb was that you couldn't afford a house much more than twice your annual income.

Location: Parts Unknown | ...... when Arne Nilsson and friends came to visit me about 10 years ago, I asked them about why Swedes (and neighbors) have such a thing for finned American cars. Their response was totally unexpected and related to your comment ... it was something like "Who couldn't like finned American cars?", but also in the mix were comments about having long, dark winters and what better way to spend them than locked up in a snug garage working on your summer fun car ???? That part I had never considered before. I immediately began setting a target to build a good winter "den" as both a way to get my cars done, but also a way to quit frittering away these dark and cold winter months doing unproductive stuff like watching TV. Get out there and get welding !!!!

One in a series I will try and post, I came home from work one day to find the garage roof broken under the weight of a heavy snow load. I placed beams and posts to make it through the winter, and come spring I built a whole new shop over the original and then demolished the old one inside. Expert Posts: 2478 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | That style of cab was assembled in Australia for IH by Chrysler Australia... A later version of the Inter used the base cab with different front clip and Chrysler further modified that a little to use on Dodge trucks here through to the late seventies.

Location: Parts Unknown | Ray Bell - 2010-02-18 4:07 PM Did it get a new front clip along the way? ****************************** Oh yeah, the A series ran 57-58, with the similar B-series running 59-60. 61 was a whole new nose clip and ran with many modifications through 1969. Guys more hardcore than I tell me that the cab also got shortened (roof lowered) for 1961, but I have had no exposure to these differences.

Elite Veteran Posts: 907 Location: Magra, Sweden | Sven, I've seen one '59 Imperial 2-d HT Wagon like this in Sweden long time ago, it was imported from Belgium in the 80s and most probably where built as a hearse, as I was told. Have not seen it since but I know Roger (moparranch) told about it. A closer look at the registration plate after uploading shows it is the very same car with Belgian registration.
