That's race car driver Buck Baker appearing with the stow-aways, up above here.

What makes this car ( a four door sedan, BTW) so interesting, is that it is one of the very few cars which
are historically-seen to have the "D501"-style D500 emblem on it.

There were two slightly-different styles-sizes to the 57 D500 emblem, and this one was obviously made by
the subcontractor which later produced the D501 emblems.

Jim's 'windmill' photo was taken in Solvang, CA---a sort of pseudo-Dutch town. The car has a continental kit on it,
which may be holding down its rear end.

It's also got the rare power fender-antenna option, and, "curb-feelers" installed on the DRIVER'S side of the car(???)

The L. Welk photo was later photographically modified and sandwiched onto the L.A. station KABC's backdrop.

That Royal 2-dr HT photo has an incredible amount of detail in it---you can read its WI license plate information on it!

It is the only 57 Dodge that I've seen which is (probably-) all-OEM red in color, and, it looks like its end-of-fin plates are black, too (supposed to be "bright aluminum" pieces, like the Custom Royal models have on them).

About that $8,000 home; you will notice that it says "ON YOUR LOT". I recall the houses in the Detroit area suburb of Garden City for that kind of money. That was exactly what you got--the house--no driveway, no walkways, no black dirt, no garage, if you were somewhere without city water and sewer, you had to come up with a well and septic tank, too. My Social Security history sheet says that median family income was under $3,800, meaning that a median income family would not qualify to buy that house, because they were kind of particular about who they loaned money to, and a pretty standard rule of thumb was that you couldn't afford a house much more than twice your annual income.

Well, thank God. Those cheesy crackerboxes are what slums are made of. Nothing but hurricane fodder.

Buy a big old house and fix it up, or build right. No excuse for cheese !

I would like to know what you think of my individual postcard webpage here (opens in a new window/tab)
Wheter you see anything at all, and whether all the links are visible and work fine.
This would be the page you'd see coming from the main page, with all the postcards, which I'm still working on...
Any suggestions are more then welcome!

I Know, you're right. I thought about mentioning 'getting a life'.

Oh, consider it being lucky (where it considers these postcards). My kids prevent me from watching TV after diner and there's nothing much else to do, during the dark season...

...... when Arne Nilsson and friends came to visit me about 10 years ago, I asked them about why Swedes
(and neighbors) have such a thing for finned American cars. Their response was totally unexpected and related
to your comment ... it was something like "Who couldn't like finned American cars?", but also in the mix
were comments about having long, dark winters and what better way to spend them than locked up in a snug
garage working on your summer fun car ???? That part I had never considered before.

I immediately began setting a target to build a good winter "den" as both a way to get my cars done, but also
a way to quit frittering away these dark and cold winter months doing unproductive stuff like watching TV. Get
out there and get welding !!!!

Recognize me as Jim says, and family practices to drive with the kids, etc.. + Its job. Has not always forces that go out in the garage. But this year has been lazy enough. Sat in front of the computer the most.
And Doctor DeSoto have seen that you are building a nice big garage that makes it easier to get inspration to continue to renovate. Be self-expanding my garage soon.

Had you driven down my street a few years ago
you might have seen this. One in a series I will try
and post, I came home from work one day to find
the garage roof broken under the weight of a heavy
snow load. I placed beams and posts to make it
through the winter, and come spring I built a whole
new shop over the original and then demolished the
old one inside.

That style of cab was assembled in Australia for IH by Chrysler Australia...

A later version of the Inter used the base cab with different front clip and Chrysler further modified that a little to use on Dodge trucks here through to the late seventies.

International introduced that cab in 57 with the A-series. It lasted with modifications here stateside through 69 when the new boxy design came out .... I think in 1970 ???

Did it get a new front clip along the way?

This is how it looked here (with variations):

******************************

Oh yeah, the A series ran 57-58, with the similar B-series running 59-60. 61 was a whole new
nose clip and ran with many modifications through 1969. Guys more hardcore than I tell me that
the cab also got shortened (roof lowered) for 1961, but I have had no exposure to these differences.

I have made a start with the indexpage for my ForwardLook postcards:

www.forwardlook.eu./postcards/

From there I will gradually build it further, with more functionality, like added search functions for year, model and location.
That won't be done anywhere soon. Just keep an eye open for it, and you'll see it develop in time. The URL-link will stay the same.

It must have been a 1956 Desoto in that 1964 wreck picture, right? It looks awful!

Right, soiouz.. yes it was a '56 DeSoto Firedome or Fireflite. Look that rear tire, no treads.. Must be enormous force to rip body off from the frame.

Sven, I've seen one '59 Imperial 2-d HT Wagon like this in Sweden long time ago, it was imported from Belgium in the 80s and most probably where built as a hearse, as I was told. Have not seen it since but I know Roger (moparranch) told about it.

A closer look at the registration plate after uploading shows it is the very same car with Belgian registration. Anybody know where it could be today?

Looks kind of stepped on from the rear?! The sideline looked better.

You forgot to mention the antenna, too.

Looks like it might be a stripper 4-dr Sierra wagon.

a '57 DeSoto Firedome parked at the New Yorker,I think the white car with the continental kit is a Willys.

I think that white car with the continental kit is a Hudson Jet. Similar in size to the Willys Aero.
The Jet came with the kit as standard trim.

Non standard mirror on this one

My blue '59 wagon had one of those mirrors. I replaced it with a factory-issue fender-mounted, twin strut. I still have that mirror somewhere.
