Dave, those pics would be much clearer if you used a digital camera instead of a scanner...[/QUOT

Yes Ray, agreed, I usually use a camera shot for a magazine or book pic, although this one is an old picture ad I found on the internet.

56 Dodge Custom Royal there. The 59 DeSoto "check mark" side trim, while similar, is higher
on the body. The roof is also much higher and more rounded on the earlier car.

Hard to see, but is does look as if that Black/Blue 1957 Dodge has dog dish wheel covers with color matching rims ...
I know, there were also the full-cover dog dish wheel covers, which could have been used here, too.

Doctor DeSoto - 2013-10-15 6:56 PM What is a "full cover dog dish" ?

Well, that's a word combination I kinda made up myself. It's the dog dish, but then with an extra outskirt, to cover the whole rim. So, it's not a dog dish ... Better?

"Dog dish", or "poverty cap" is slang for the hubcap, the smaller unit that only covers the wheel center.

The "full face" or "wheelcover" is the large dude that cover all, or nearly all, of the wheel.

The factories sold them as distinctly different units, the bigger ones being extra cost, or standard on the
fancier models. SOmetimes the poverty caps weren't even available on some cars. I do not believe an
Imperial or Lincoln could be bought with a "dog dish" hubcap in the late 50's.

If you add that "full cover" part, it is no longer a "dog dish", although some year's wheelcovers could
certainly function as a large serving platter for man or dog !

I assume about the work of the traffic squad (daily work of a police officer at an urban road intersection).
What I wonder - I didn't see many FLK cars cruising around - most cars were GM and Furd coasters and an (ugly, my opinion) Edsel...

Happy Motoring!

Wonder if this dealer is still in business? His sign indicates that in addition to selling Studebakers he was a Datsun agent. Studebaker is no longer making cars these days, but Datsun is doing very well under the name of Nissan.

That Datsun sign struck me too...

Those look like about '64 Studies, if he held out just a couple more years the 510 came in and he'd have had a big seller on his hands. He also has a broad range of other 'specialties' there, including Auto Electrics, it would seem to be a small town setup.

Can we get a read on the sign with the name in it? I think it might be 'KLAUDT'S' or 'KLAUDY'S'.

Plymouth 57 58?

It is a '58 Custom Suburban. Several items are '58-specific, such as the fender ornaments, tail lights, wheel covers, 'Suburban' script, and the (optional) Deluxe trim and corresponding two-tone. It also has the power rear window; the manual window crank has a different appearance.

much info you get out of the picture (the car)
Always thinking of the side sweep at 57 DeSoto
and should have been the same at Plymouth 57.

Apparently our DeSoto-driving photografist felt no compunction to get that #@! hood
painted to match the car for a LONG time, as MANY of these cards feature that car with
the goofy colored hood. Hmmmmm ....

It sure would be fun to learn the story behind this well documented car.

Jim, this photographer's 57 (apparently) and 58 DeSotos are prominently displayed on his post card photography.

I suggested, long ago, that his 'work' merited its own thread, featuring his cars in them.

A lot of his PC's appear in this thread; you just gotta go scroll through 157 pages of it, now, to see them.

d500neil - 2013-10-17 11:36 PM Jim, this photographer's 57 (apparently) and 58 DeSotos are prominently displayed on his post card photography. I suggested, long ago, that his 'work' merited its own thread, featuring his cars in them. A lot of his PC's appear in this thread; you just gotta go scroll through 157 pages of it, now, to see them.

Or ..., go here: http://dodge.forwardlook.eu/postcards/desotophotographer.php

That's good; but that's not all of his PC's.

There is at least 12 motel postcards with the 1958 DeSoto in them

Bishop CA The Elms and MT Toms
San Diego CA Mecca
Buellton CA Buellton
El Monte CA Rancho Descanso
Crescent Beach CA Crescent Beach

Gallup NM Lariat
Kingman AZ Arcadia

Reno NV Daniels
Vegas Westener, Golden Inn and Desert Villa

In that the photographer got 2 in Bishop CA(Neil's hometown) and 3 in Vegas he should have made enough to get the hood painted but what a trademark

Note-from Jim's site there is a yellow and white 56 Dodge 2 door hardtop that shows up in at least 3 AZ motel postcards
