DIF-RNT - 2014-05-29 10:25 AM Can anyone read the Marque on the front of the trolley bus?

The picture is not detailed enough to support a level of magnification that will make the trolley's destination sign clear. I think the first part says "Cuidad de los" but I'm drawing a blank on the last word. The scene was probably taken somewhere where Spanish is spoken.

Even Monuments need days-off.

It has to be at work for the Holidays, you know.

You are looking up Genesee St. What you see is the McKinley Monument in honor of President McKinley who was shot and later died in Buffalo in 1901 at the Pan-American Exposition

The building that looks like it is touching the monument on the left side is the Buffalo City Hall. The building on the right is farther up Genesee and was an office for Niagara Mohawk ( the old power company)

There were observation decks at City Hall looking toward the Monument. They were closed off after a number of people took a leap off the handrail and impaled themselves on the flagpole below them

My father took them, and wrote the date on them.

Most cars you see on them are GM products. Only on some photos there are Chrysler Corp. cars pictured.

Thank you for this explanation! Looked on google maps, the street has been modified heavily.

This picture was taken in Gary, Indiana on May 20th, 1960.

Those cars were out of date then...

When I think of Gary, Indiana, all I see is dark and grey and rust and ugly. It was a hellhole
when I went through 20+ years ago. Is it any better today ?

Gary IN was considerably worse, air quality-wize than was Detroit.

The above photo accurately depicts the air's condition/visibility (but not the industrial pollution-smell) of the area.

I was just having this conversation the other day with Coronet Bob. He commented about so
many people living east of the Rockies have no clue about anything but flat land and low, rolling
hills. He lives for the Mopar Nats and travels back to Ohio every year for that. I told him, as I
have thought during my many cross country trips, that I can't imagine living in a place without
such diverse vertical landscape as we have out west.

Of course, not everyone who lives east of the Rockies only knows flat land and rolling hills. I'm in Virginia and the mountain behind my house is 4000 feet. Certainly nowhere near as lofty as the Rockies, but still impressive!

Taking a chance with a non-forwardlook subject ….
I noticed with these St. Pete’s postcards, they do not only feature 1957 Dodge, but they also seem to feature the same photo models. When I checked, I found out it’s the same photographer: Ward Beckett, so, this almost cannot be a coincedence. This photographer must have struck some kind of a deal, I would think …
And when I look in my archive, I do find others from this same photographer. There probably will be more postcards alike out there.
