Regular Posts: 68 Location: Fafe, Portugal | Hello Members, a couple of month ago I purchased a 361 engine block. The engine came out of a 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury is broke and I plan to bring it back to life again. It has a 2x4bbl setup, but it appears that it was a 2bbl in the first place. Here the specification of the engine: The block casting # is 1944959-6 L.S. The head casting # is 1944705-2 Intake Valve 1.95” Exhaust Valve 1.60” Basically I have three questions: 1. Did this engine really belong to a 59 Model? 2. Can anybody identify these heads by the numbers? I’d like to know how many cc’s they have according to the book. According to the Service Manual they should have 2.08 Intake and 1.74 Exhaust Valves, but they don’t. 3. What cam shaft belonged to this engine? What was the original cam lift of this engine? The shop manual shows only the opening and closing degrees. Any help is appreciated! Thanks Stefan (361 Block.JPG) (361 Head.JPG) (Head #.JPG) Attachments ---------------- 361 Block.JPG (75KB - 169 downloads) 361 Head.JPG (54KB - 123 downloads) Head #.JPG (65KB - 105 downloads)

Account Inactive by Request Posts: 1601 | Look on the machined pad just under and to the right of the distributor base. The codes for the engine are stamped on this pad. If it is a 1959 361 engine, the code will be ML 361. Hope this helps.

Expert Posts: 3777 Location: NorCal | The 705 head was used fron '58-'61, the valve sizes you have are correct for that head. Like most closed chamber heads, the advertised chamber volume is 73.5 CC's. I would suspect that the cam is pretty much the same as all standard performance wedges prior to '68. To get the duration simply add the opening/closing degrees to 180.

Regular Posts: 68 Location: Fafe, Portugal | Carjok. I’ve checked the number and it is ML 361, what means it’s a 361 of 1959. Thanks you! Charliy, Sorry I need to keep the tube. The engine is already incomplete and I have difficulties to get all the parts shipped to Portugal. 57chizler, I’ve checked the heads yesterday with a syringe and water. It was something around 73 cc. So the advertised 73.5 cc is most likely more correct than my way. Thanks! Regarding the camshaft: I already know the duration and overlap from the Service Manual, but unfortunately the book doesn’t show the cam lift (or valve lift). Do you have any idea where to get this information? If it would be possible to identify the cam by the #, I would take a look later in the afternoon. Expert Posts: 1506 Location: Colo Spgs | Stefan The camshaft of the 2-4 bbl yester-years engines ( and the Hi-Perf 4 bbl yester-years engines ) is very close to today's MoPar # 4286675 Camshaft Assembly. This cam has been in the books for an good ten years because it is also used as an replacement cam for the "got to be correct and very good" Chrysler 300 Clubs. Rodger & Gabby COS
