I hated to do it but today I sold my 1956 Plymouth UTE.

Here it is loaded up on the new owners trailer going to it's new home in Davenport Iowa. The guy owns two 1954 Plymouth coupes so this one will fit right into his collection.
This was the first time the tires had ever seen snow! It still has the original 1956 Olympic 6-ply 16" Tyres on it since the car only has a little over 20K miles on it.

But that gives me the money I need to work on my other UTE.

The Desoto is the real keeper since it is the only one known in the states and one of only 275 made ( the Plymouth was one of 3 here and 505 were made)

No they only had the Flathead 6 in OZ.

I have seen someone put a hemi in one so I know it can be done!
The first Australian Hemi was a 6-cylinder

REally neat Car/truck or I guess I should say, UTE, Mate!!!
They were ahead of their time, When Chebbie and Ferd came out with the Ranchero and El Camino's, Chrysler (Particularly Dodge got caught blind) They did a "Hurry up with the Sweptside", nice, but still looks like a truck, which the competition didnt, Too bad they did'nt keep up with those UTE's and they would have actually outjumped Generous Motors and Ferd By several years , had they sold them in the US!!!!

I am not sure why they didn't bring the UTE (car/truck hybred) to the American market since most manufacturers were making them in their OZ facilities back in the 30s.

I kinda like the sweptsides but I am looking for one of these

After this body style was done they even made them with fins.
The AP-1 Chrysler wayfarer ute (1957-59) used 1956 Plymouth rear quarters
The AP-2 Chrysler wayfarer ute (1959-61) used 1957 Dodge rear quarters
The AP-3 Chrysler wayfarer ute (1961-63) used 1959 Desoto looking rear quarters
I will try to attach some photos to this post.

After that they went to a valiant based body

you would think Chrysler would make one of these out of the current 300.

I'm sure that selling your '56 Plymouth ute was a difficult decision, but the proceeds are going to a great cause!! ---John

For those who want to do something cool with a 4dr sedan,I think that this would be a neat conversion. Find a tailgate off a rusty wagon and go for it!

The original request that started the UTE body style in Australia is credited as coming from a farmers wife. In 1933 farmers had a hard time getting loans to buy cars but the bank would finance trucks. So she asked one of the manufacturers why they could not make a car that they could take to church on Sunday, and take the hogs to market on Monday? In 1934 he first utility coupe was made and the other manufacturers followed suit the following year
