Veteran Posts: 210 Location: San Diego, CA | Here are some pictures of my Dodge that was destroyed in the Southern California Fires a few months ago. I bought the car in 2001 but it was not as nice as it appeared, your typical rust, etc. Some of you might remember the car from the 2002 (?) Calendar. It was on the cover. I started a frame off restoration as can be seen in photo 2. The remaining photos show the car as it is today. I also had a 2 door ’59 Royal Lancer parts car that was destroyed. They were sitting side by side. Besides the personal loss of a car and all the time and money spent to restore it, it is depressing that what was an excellent car is now lost forever. One less 2 door Canadian 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer in the world. A pity…. James

Expert Posts: 2932 Location: Lemoore CA | Sorry to hear about your loss of cars and property, it's so frustrating and heartbreaking when a disaster takes things away from people, there is just nothing you can do except what you said, move on. I guess the only consolation is that you, and your family(I hope) got out OK.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Our Olde cars are MUCH more likely to suffer a Comprehensive-coverage loss, than a Collision-coverage loss! And, "Comp" coverage really IS inexpensive. No excuse not to have that coverage; and no: I do not have Collision coverage on my car, but do have everything ELSE, on it.

Expert Posts: 1812 Location: Slidell La. | James , thats a terrible loss , sounds like we re talking about a loved one you lost , thank God that didn t happen . I m down here in Katrina country , there were many , many classic cars lost forever. Haven t heard of any FLs thou , there were plenty of cars that will rise out of the flood and be restored again . Some weren t so lucky , some cars stayed totally submerged for anywhere from 2 weeks to a month in water 10-15 feet deep , and nasty water at that (toxic). Some guys I know said that when the water finally subsided , sheetmetal was already rusted , anything aluminum or potmetal just crumbled to the touch . Some guys got to buy their cars back and others were Stuck by the insurance adjusters , they wouldn t let them buy their cars back . They had sales lined up already for a highly sought after flooded cars . Some of these guys have seen their cars on EBay . My car almost flooded , I had it extened as high as I could on jack stands . Water got to the floors under the car and that was it . I was fortunate . Life goes on . Can t wait to see your Chrysler , is it a 300 ? Veteran Posts: 188 Location: Adelaide Australia | oh mate, i am so sorry. how devistating!! if you lived closer i would bring you some kleenex!! i think that you would have definately needed them. at least you still have the memories and the photos to remind you of the car that once was, i know that it is no subsitute for the real thing, but it is something i guess. my dads 1958 desoto was one of the lucky ones, the previous owner had 3 of them and in the ash wednesday bushfires, two of them were destroyed, luckily the guy he had enough time to get one out before the fire hit. with only 91 Australian delivered 1958 desotos, it was a huge loss. but no matter what the production number, rarity or condition of the car it is a massive tragedy to lose one of them! cheers and happy new year, adriana

Elite Veteran Posts: 709 Location: Poznan, Poland, Europe | narleycharlie - 2007-12-30 5:09 AM Can t wait to see your Chrysler , is it a 300 ? It's so bad to see that not only human stupidity and time are the enemies of 1950's cars but also a mother nature As for the Chrysler, it has low rear window and has a shield in the licence plate frame, so it's not a 300, but some other model. But those fin-high taillights look good on each '57 Chrysler.

Expert Posts: 2100 Location: Idaho - where men are men and spuds are spuds | James - I have a '59 Dodge CRL 2dr. hardtop (Canadian) very much like yours, except it's brown and white. I call it Old Brown. I've experimented with colors for a repaint, and had actually experimented with a color scheme similar to yours. Your car was BEAUTIFUL! I absolutely love the color combination. So I saved a copy of your photo. If I eventually repaint mine in your colors, I'll do so in memory of yours. Thanks for sharing, and good luck on your new project.
