Inactive by user's request Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | Doctor DeSoto - 2008-02-11 10:20 PM That roof drip edge rust is very typical of cars used around the ocean .... the salt comes to them from the mist off the water and lodges high. Kind of a tough place to get at to work too. Yes, how true. I know of a two door '57 Plymouth wagon from Southern California. The floors are solid, but the roof drip edges were ready to fall off. I've seen several '57-'58 wagons which were generally solid except for the roof drip edges. I figured they were either from coastal areas or spent a lot of time parked near industrial complexes. I have pictures I should post to prove the latter point. A friend of mine purchased a 1989 or '90 Chevrolet short bed pickup from Nevada Power Company. The truck was retired by the utility after spending ten years at the coal fired Reid Gardner Power Plant. The truck was exposed to sulphur and other pollutants which were captured by plant emissions equipment. The doors, fenders and cab were eaten through worse than some older ones I've seen in areas where road salt is used. It was hard to believe the truck spent its entire working life just thirty six miles north of Las Vegas! K. Edited by Kenny J. 2008-04-27 6:34 AM

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13055 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Wow Gary! I'm happy for the progress that you're making, the roof seems to be perfectly well repaired along with the rest of the rot. You must have removed a lot of bondo on the car - now it seems that you only have used necessary amount. I'm also happy with the way you're documenting the work, like step for step - this will help new FL'rs to get a grip and get started. Keep up the good work

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | There is a "California" Dodge wagon, shown on the 'Craigs List' board, now, that shows the exact-same roof-level rust-out---I think because the factory only DIPPED the cars in rust-coating, but didn't submerge them, to get that protection be put onto the rear-roofs of the wagons....check it out, over there.

On that board, go down to, like, the 7th thread: $1,000 1959 Sierra Wagon (or sum-such title); that's it.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | I wonder what happened to this car I did see his other post about 2 years later that he was selling it. It looks like he had to fix almost exactly the same stuff I have so far. I thought it was funny that it almost looks like his car and mine must have had the same panel beater as the crappy repairs looked almost identical.
