Elite Veteran Posts: 632 Location: Belford, NJ | What is the correct color for the air cleaner on a '61 Golden Lion? I'm pretty sure the engine itself is suppose to be black, but is the air cleaner gold or black as well? Any pictures would be great as well.

Regular Posts: 58 | I am making an offer for a 60 NewYorker this coming friday.. It has a 413. What kind of performance can I expect? I have a 60 IMpala with a 283 that does okay on the highway cruising between 70 and 75.. I have heard that the 413 can cruise all day at 100. I that true? Rick

It is in the Raised "B" Block family of Chrysler engines which are very similar to the Low Block "B" engines, 361, 383 and 400. Your New Yorker for 1960 is rated at 350 HP. They go forever, I have one in my 1962 Chrysler 300 with dual four barrels rated at 380 HP. Will hit 60 MPH in about 7 seconds. I took it up to 126 MPH once and ran out of driving room. The guy I bought it from had it up to 141 MPH. It has a 150 MPH speedo. Edited by imopar380 2008-05-27 12:23 AM

Regular Posts: 58 | WOW!!! Nice ride and girl!!! I really like the Desoto hubcaps and unlike most guys on this forum I really like fenderskirts. You can also take them off if you don't like them. They make the car look longer and lower.. If I get this Newyorker I'd like to find stainless skirts for it since the car has soo much stainless trim around the wheel wells.. I also think it would be awesome to be passed by a newYorker on the highway.

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | Well, I was at the zoo this weekend with the little ones. They love to see all of the animals in their natural habitat. Anyway, I took a break from the group so I could spend a few minutes sharing my ideas with the animal trainers - it appears they currently have no plans to increase zoo attendance by hosting intramural elephant and tiger fighting. But while I was back behind the exhibit, I did notice one of the trainers using what appeared to be a common spray can of Rustoleum to touch up one of the lions. The poor beast had gotten a bit scuffed up on one side and naturally a lot of the gold had been worn off. Next time I'm there I'll try to get the code off the can.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 480 Location: The Great Northwest | At long last, I got to painting the single four barrel air cleaner on the 61 New Yorker 413. I purposely left a small area of original gold paint underneath so it could be compared with any new paint color. Turns out that VHT high temperature universal gold engine enamel SP132 is a dead on match to the original paint patch. It looks like a great match in direct sunlight and indoors as well so give it a try on your next air cleaner.

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: Victoria Australia | Sorry if my question is stupid but is the colour scheme of a black engine with gold air cleaner referring to a '61 Newport 361 and if so, are the rocker covers gold also? What about the air intake valley, what colour is that suppose to be? Edited by Alex 2017-03-22 6:14 AM
