Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | YEP; all white, red-interior, no undercoating, OEM rubber floor mats; base 2-bbl/single exhaust, tinted-and-shaded glass. It's got option group #5, which includes that (very dirty) 2-tone steering wheel, but, also, it's supposed to have OEM spinner wheelcovers, not those plain-style ones. Look at that neat original under-trunk finish. Manual brakes (no big deal) but power steering (a big deal) This car is VERY restorable, true "barn" find!! I'm going to ask the nice-sellers if they can find the B-Sheet, up/behind the glove box. Edited by d500neil 2008-09-22 4:07 PM

Inactive by Request Posts: 1292 Location: Lovely place | It's unbelievable someone can keep such a car in garage for 40 years! If this was available here I wouldn't hesitate. I would just make sure the car would have good mechanics and drive! I thought cars in Texas survive quite well, anyway 40 years is a long time (look at that hood front support). But that's just patina... Funny.. On 1968 the owner decided the gas is too expensive, that was before I was born Edited by Sisu 2008-09-22 4:23 PM

That car is not "that far" from En-grand??? VOT did he DO? Sail it around de Vorld???? There's not a whole lot of tropical flora, in the far northern hemisphere! And, Ced, back in '68, when gas was at $0.30+/gal, that was like $3.00++ nowadays with that amount being spent on a car getting 10+ mpg, around town, every day.... Inactive by Request Posts: 1292 Location: Lovely place | Better not start the oil price topic again, LOL! Neil, help me with this one - in the interior the glove box + gauge surrounding is black like in base level Coronet. Didn't they already have in Lancer level the better finish? Also notice the right front tire is likely a spare tire, been flat for who knows how long, deep in the ground (there's a reason to use that jack). Something's missing from the drivers side (look under the hood)... Maybe it wasn't only the gas price that made him stop driving, someone has been working in the engine department...

Inactive by Request Posts: 1292 Location: Lovely place | If it was convertible someone would definately pay $10.000... This would be a great car for display, close to my garage is a flashy hair stylist and they have early 50's Dodge inside in its completely original (similar) state. Its bit wierd seeing it inside their expensive building (especially here in Zermany) but actually it looks quite good standing there. If there's Mrs. Belvedere this could be Mr. Lancer... Btw, I hate spiders - is it true they have Tarantella's in Texas...? Btw2, I never used hair stylist in my life - and now its too late! Edited by Sisu 2008-09-22 7:52 PM

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Ced, Royals and Coronets both had the color-coordinated painted dash inserts; only the CR's got the anodized aluminum inserts. That black spot ("black hole?") you see on the firewall is just a large rubber grommet-thing that holds several speedo cable-like things that go thru the dash/firewall. That what you're looking at? Elite Veteran Posts: 1155 Location: somerville mass | who knows - maybe you can turn the motor by hand by scraping all the sludge off the oil pan replace it w/a new gasket and pouring mystery oil in it. tank will have to be flushed or just putting in fresh gas after replacing gas lines and some drygas. keep turning by hand and pouring out mystery and puttinng in fresh oil. new points plugs maybe wires - new battery - lemme put the keys in here n see if it will kick over.... new brakes shocks exh. tires flush or. rep. radiator and water pump, fresh anti freeze. if it does start i just may - push the d push button light a smoke put your left arm on the door and drive away!!!! somebodys gotta wash it and simoniz man..... there is a reserve maybe he wants 5 or 10 grand... ive seen cars on the bay with starting bid of $100 later with a "buy it now" for 15 grand!! i bid 1000 - good luck guys!!! - bid now!! or call the guy and iron out a deal..... he said you need a WINCH????

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Jim, somebody--oh, yeah, over on the Fender tag Board; the man who was/is interested in this car, advises that what 'we' are looking at is, like, LICHEN, or something, which can be removed from the sheetmetal fairly easily. This bad boy is an all-white Royal with the red/black interior--fairly rare 'survivor'....nowadays. I'd be inclined to install dual rear antennae, and a 3-deuce, or dual quad set up on it; funny thing; .....on the 57 Super-D set-up, the primary passages of the rear carb and the front carb are smaller than the 4-barrels on the Single-D carb, so that, if you could keep your foot out of the two carbs' secondaries, you'd theoretically get more MPG out of the dual-4 set up's primary throats , than in the single-4 carb's primary and secondary throats!

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | Well that is only true, Neal, if you hook the carbs up sequentially, as I have done to mine. The factory linkage runs both carbs all the time, so even thou the primaries may be smaller, that fact that you are runnin on both primaries would exceed the size of the single D500 Carb---don't ya think? Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Gary, I believe that the set up of the dual carbs was left to the decision of the owners (NOT that there were many OEM dual 4-barrel set ups ever produced-LOLOLOL...) ; but, it would be informative to try to confirm how the factory had the carbs set-up, as per factory specifications. I know, for example, that you could set up the carbs so that all EIGHT barrels could dump simultaneously! I also know that you could have the two primaries open sequentially, and then the other 4 barrels open progressively, or, at one time simultaneously ; there was a lot of adjustment leeway on them, and that was a GOOD thing, depending upon a driver's performance interests. STILL, OEM carb-adjustment specs would be a nice thing, to confirm.

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | For sure, would be interesting to know the Specs. On Börje's 59, both carbs run all the time. I will have to check some of Aivar's other dual quad cars, The 60 Phoenix Convertible, but since it is ram Induction, I'm pretty sure it runs on both carbs, all the time. He also has Dual carbs on "Josephine" the Red & white plymouth and I beleve dual carbs on the Regal Lancer, and I suspects his 57 300 C, also has "Factory Dual Quads"? Bad 58 Mike has Duals on his "Christine" and I think we will see him at a show on Sunday----so I will check with him. The seller of my car, had a "Mickey Mouse" set up for the dual carbs on mine, using a cable that you could adjust so carbs were either sequential or both on all the time. We fabricated linkage for it, and I tried running it both ways, sequential and both carbs on all the time. It seems to like the sequentail operation better, especially with the 276 rear end----ya don't "Nail it" right from a standing start, let her get a few RPMs then nail it!!!! Gary

Hopefully, this car will get restored; it's a rare (surviving) color-model combination, and things like the headliner look to be in good enough condition. Hope that the buyer appreciates the car, and what he's potentially got, there.

Expert Posts: 2932 Location: Lemoore CA | Interesting car! Strange that the 57 Coronet that finished auction about a week ago brought roughly the same amount of money. In my opinion, that car could have been enjoyed as is for a little while. So, why did this one bring so much more? Because it is a Royal? More attractive (to my eyes anyway) cosmetics? The timing of the economy? A link to the Coronet auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename... Edited by 5859 2008-10-27 4:08 AM

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | A Royal 2-dr Ht is a rare bird; there were only 12,252 built, compared to 44,397 Coros, and 15,632 CRL's(with an additional 2,150 being "Exported", somewhere)= 17,782 . This car also has a rather flamboyant color combination, and a solid (low maintenance!) exterior color, to boot. If you have the interest, money, time, ability, location, and equipment to restore this car, you will end up having a unique example of a car that virtually no one else has, probably, in the world.
