Attached is an immage of the fender tag on my just purchased Golden Lancer. I am interested in a complete decode of this if possible. Some of you gave me previous help but I see all kinds of new stuff on the tag. In particular what do all of the numbers across the top of the tag mean: some of which have numbers underneath them. Thanking you in advance for whatever you can offer. Dan

No problemo, Dan:

You should go buy a copy of the factory's IBM build-card, as shown at the top of this board, for a lot MORE info
on your car's options and equipment, than is revealed on this L.A.-built car, which was 'scheduled' to have been built o.o.a. 6/23/56.

L.A. built cars have this typical-style Paint/Trim plate, with a lot less information shown on it, than the Detroit-built cars.

L.A. P/T plates have your backless mounting screws, and feature a middle-section where a strip of masking tape was applied
across it (which probably held a copy of the car's Broadcast sheet; why that strip of tape was routinely/always[seemingly] left
lying across the P/T plate, I don't know.)

That old/patina'ed/corroded area confirms OEM paintwork, at least across the cowl area of the car.

Model D63-2 and Body code 826 confirm a Royal-series, in 2-dr HT configuration.

Your car may have the D500 engine option; please confirm that item.

The standard Royal engine is 315 c.i. Poly-head, 2-bbl , which produces 218 advertised gross HP.

The Poly 4-bbl/dual-exhaust engine (230 HP) was optional-----the IBM card-copy will confirm your car's OEM engine
status.

I have NOT been able to decypher the SG coding, but quite a few cars do have a "1" in that column-area.

Your car certainly has (many-) other options, but the P/T plate only lists two options.

Taking a semi-wild guess, could your car have a manual transmission (that might be, for the "SG" option).

And, a rear speaker (long-shot)?

I really need to score a 1956 Broadcast Sheet, AND the IBM card, on one particular (hopefully well-optioned) car
in order to be certain of the SG, EW, and the M-codes.

Your car's paint scheme: 077, is right-on, for the Gallant Gold and Sapphire White colors, and the Royal-scheme Black- and-White interior motif.

...and then, there's that special "Undercoat" tag which somebody thought to attach to the
P/T plate----maybe that WAS a big deal, on L.A. built cars!

d500neil: Thank you very much. I do intend on buying the card, but I just was too impatient to wait in that I have not yet titled it in my name so haven't sent away for it yet. It turns out that this car really does not have very many options. It has no radio, thus a radio delete plate, no power steering or no power brakes. Does have a heater/defroster and that is about it. It has full hub caps rather than little dog dish ones so maybe that is an option. I don't know. The New Mexico title of the car shows that it was first registered in New Mexico in 1956, and I can verify that the last 10 years or so it was still in NM. I get the feeling that whoever first bought this car was into racing in that there were so few options on it-probably trying to keep the weight down. At any rate, I am happy to have it and will enjoy working on it and driving it around. First thing is I need to pull the gas tank in that it erratically "starves" for gas and I can see the in line fuel filter has crud in it. After that is taken care of I will tune her up and then should be good to go for awhile. A couple of parts are missing such as the chrome "flipper" door trim above the windows. Oh, and yes it does have the D500 engine--Ser: D500-5822 clearly stamped on it. Fellow I bought it from says he went 40 over when he rebuilt it. Runs very smooth when it is not starving for gas. Well, the REALLY good news is that, thanks in great-part from you, I now know WHERE on the L.A. built
1956 Dodges that the D500 option IS shown, on the P/T plate.

And, I've got a major clue, as far as the Detroit-built cars' P/T plates are concerned.

OK; what about its transmission status?

Manual or Powerflite?

Well, that eliminates "SG" as being a trannie designator.

Full wheelcovers were standard on the Royal series; I'm a little surprised that the car's
owner didn't specify a manual transmission, IF...the car was special-ordered--the IBM guy
will confirm any special ordering of it.

I'm thinking that the car may have been purpose-built, at the factory, as being manual
steering & brakes, but with the "convenient" (easier-to-sell) Powerflite, rather than
with a manual trannie, which might have been more-preferred by an economical
Coronet buyer.

BTW, a stripper D500 mid-level Royal should be a VERY rare critter, then, and now !
