Location: bishop, ca | Just sent Clive some Dodge Reporter photo-articles to post here.
Apparently, there was an initial 400-car order, which was followed by another one, for 112 units.
The first article states that the "400" cars might have (all?) been the 285HP D500's, which implies that they ('all')
would have had the single-4 Hemi engine installed.
This Super D500 auction car has a 18 March Scheduled build date, so it may well have been sold as part of the second order of the Pursuits.
As this car is a Super-D, it stands to reason that the SECOND batch (112) may well have ALL been Super D500's, with the dual 4-bbl carburetion (in order to apprehend all those REAL speeders, out there).
Also note that, as apparently originally-delivered/received, the pursuits did not have the roof mounted
"emergency beacons" installed, but, that, at some later date, they WERE installed (just as this-car
had had one be installed onto it; but, which was later, post-service, removed from it).
A close viewing of the Dodge Reporter photos shows clearly that there were no passenger-side (and, probably?) no
driver's side spot lights/ruby-spots installed on them, but, that at least 1 or more of them had
had combination sirens/emergency-beacons installed on their roof(s).
This auction-car looks to have had the elongated 'combo' unit installed on its roof, which makes sense, for
aerodynamic high-speed pursuit activity.
Although the roof light was retrofitted, apparently the MHP didn't care to install spotlight(s), and,
somewhat surprisingly, Dodge didn't advertise that spotlights were either OEM, or dealer-installed,
availabilities.
Of course, Dodge didn't advertise the availability of under hood sirens ("growlers"), either.
As per Jim's advertisement, above; at first glance, the wheels/tires might look to be 15"ers,
but, the wheels have 1957-style dog-dishes, so, the wheels have to be 14"ers, because the
1956 Dodge was the last model to have 15" wheels, and their dog-dish hub caps look very
different from the 1957 (14") doggies....
Finally, note that the door 'bugs' were apparently installed behind(??) the door moldings , unless
the bugs were split in half, on either side of the moldings.
CA, prior to 1959, had done the same thing with their door 'bugs' .
