Went to a small cruise in the local area. Popped the hood up then headed into the local food establishment to get a drink. Did not see anyone around but found some nice belt buckle swirls on the right front fender:madman:  as, I am sure, someone was leaning in to "See if it has a Hemi".   Don't people think?  Of course, no names attached.

Making some signs now for car shows and other occasions, for exactly the reason above.

Would much rather be thought of as a rectal orifice before the fact than proven one beyond all doubt after the fact, which probably would involve an ambulance for the violator and a black and white for me - not exactly the car I want to ride in at a show or cruise-in or while somewhere just trying to enjoy my day.

"No belt buckles, no purses, no touching"

"It's a car, not your kitchen counter - NO LEANING"

"You don't own this car, you don't work on this car, you don't touch this car"

"If you are drunk, inconsiderate, or just plain rude, go away"

"Car has electrical problem - electrocution hazard" (at the moment, this is mostly true)

"Wet Paint"

And so on and so on.

I washed and detailed mine . I vacuumed the interrior, the trunk . I also filled the tank with premium unleaded. Were I go the premium has no ethenol in it. When my new porta white walls come in I am going to take it in to have the nytrgen put back in the tires.

Bel5758- love the electricution sign:bleh:   You are right, though.  Had my '68 300 at the Boston World of Wheels (premier show) a few years back. Not easy to get into. Windows had to be down for judging.  Came back to my car and mine, as well as at least two others inside the building had the headliners slashed by a knife or some sort of blade...like someone "looked in" and stabbed on the way out.  Of course, no cameras or security around and this is a show that is wall to wall people...  Most likely some jealous punk who thinks because he/she can't afford something nice neither should anyone else have something.

As for the electricution...my old man would rig up an ignition coil to the handle of the milktruck door as he delivered. the kids would love to jump on while the truck was parked to swipe a chocolate milk, etc while the driver was delivering. Kids had to use the handle to jump in the big service door....well, the coil had no problem grounding out to them while they were still on the ground. :wince: Can't do that today and get away with it!

Went to a car show yesterday and won Best Mopar.... that was fun. That was about the 6th time this season I got Best Mopar.
What a surprise. Mopars do get the most attention at shows. I spend alot of time talking to so many people. It is a blast.
Im on the far right, the little guy in the red on the left is my youngest son Dylan at 14 yrs old.

Me and my car show buddies the club were in.

congrats. Not many mopars out in New England, non of the shows or cruises in the area break out for us, always just best cruiser (lowered Mercs, etc) and hot rod, and then by years-in decades. although lots of attention, somehow FLers are not popular to the crowd even though they are prestine. again, congrats!!!!!!

I received a clock marketed on eBay as "a working electric clock for a 1957 Chrysler Imperial." Even though I bought it for a '57 DeSoto, I thought I could probably adapt it enough for my loose standards. The clock was not as advertized. It is a working clock for a 1957 DeSoto. SCORE!!!!!

Picked up a '57 Desoto Firesweep 4-door HT, found a milk crate with five extra air filters, a ball & trunnion kit, new front end bushings and idler arm in the trunk, and a '57 Chrysler poly motor beneath the hood.

I have finally got to work om my '60 Savoy since the weather has gotten a whole lot cooooooooler. My original gas tank was shot. I bought a very good used tank from Big M. I pulled the sending unit and cleaned the cloged pick up tube and replaced the sock and rubber gasket. I have never seen the guage work for the 5+ years I've owned this car. I hooked up the wire and what do you know the guage says I have gas. YEA!!! No more running out of gas unless I don't put any in it.

Today I replaced a small piece of hose. It's the hose between the tank and the ventilation tube at the filler tube (joining the filler tube close to the filler neck). It was more difficult than I expected first due to the limited space - I didn't remove the gas tank. The old hose was hard like stone and broke when I tried to remove it. The new hose is rated for oil, gas and diesel up to 145 psi.

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

BTW: the best would be to replace the hose at the filler tube as well. I try to find a piece of one foot or one meter...

Doubtless to be met with some controversy, I welded up these screw-on rocker-covers for that space-age custom look. Not permanent per se, I actually think they balance out the design.

Can't wait for Neil and the Doctor to disown me. I thought lights, too. Maybe little rocket launchers? These are "harvested" fins off another '57, welded to rocker skins and held on by 4 sheet metal screws. So no, I didn't mangle my old girl for good.

How about a full on side view JT? Curious as to how those look when they aren't the dominant feature in the photo.
Never seen such things in my life.
In the second pic the front of it sticks out more? Or just a trick of the cam? You going to paint them?

They will be filled and painted body color. I'll pull her out today and shoot a long view. They aren't screwed on on yet in those pics. Delicate balance between not messing up my beautiful sheet metal, and getting a little mod look going on for kicks.

So here are some crappy pics of the nuclear intake scoops on my DeSoto. Despite the fact that many may think I'm peculiar, they aren't bad pieces of fabrication.

Went over to my good friend Ron's tonight ( home of m ex-Polara) and we pulled the right exhaust manifold and rebuilt the heat riser valve. The shaft was completely seized in the bushing - when we finally got it so the shaft would turn the bushing turned with it. That meant grinding the spot welds off of the valve so the shaft could be slid through and out, then were able to remove the bushing, clean up the shaft and put it all back together. I was missing the counter-weight, but fortunately Ron had several of those as well as the stopper and thermostat spring.

In picture 15....the 'shield' for lack of a better word - the thing you are holding in pic 7 - is that the correct position for it in pic 15?

On mine the shield is rotated clockwise about a half turn from where yours is.

Does the position of it relate to function?

Thanks for a minute of your time....been wondering about mine.

It's called the counterweight, but I assume it's correct, as Ron is a 45 year+ Chrysler mechanic.

Update, it's not back on the car yet. I left the car over night at Ron's and he discovered a coolant leak from the front frost plug on that side this morning. It may have to go back to the machine shop.

Mmmm, I like the look of that Sermey,

I currently do Not have Windshield Washers , This was one of the reasons i changes the Cowl, as someone previous cut 2 tiny square hole in the original cowl, but nothing was there when i bought the Dodge over 8 years ago..

imopar380 - 2012-09-04 7:02  . . . . . and rebuilt the heat riser valve . . . .

Nice and clean job! On my earlier cars I used to fix the heat riser opened, for the spark plugs got carbonized! Other experience?

I think that non-leaded gas will not produce carboned-up spark plugs (like the leaded-stuff did).

Or, your plugs' heat range was wrong?

The car should run a lot smoother when cold with a properly functioning heat riser, even in warm weather it's been a beast when first started. The carb needs that initial warm-up to get things running smoothly.

Update - I put a video together on the rebuild of the heat riser valve.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oSPY-MYqvQ&list=UUflsE9-szyeMHtX-ls...

As to the leaky frost plug that we discovered with the exhaust manifold off, the owner of the machine shop came over and replaced it personally, though it took him a few days to get there, so we didn't get the manifold back on till after that.

Don't know if I did this "to" my car, but Horrie got to show a Break-My-Window SUV how to negotiate a couple S-bends,
in a local 2-lane roadway, today.

Stayed in 'my' traffic lane, of course, and did it in the best Matthew Keij "arm out the window" style, too.

Knowing the route and having practiced on it many times didn't hurt, either, stabbing the loud pedal and kicking out the rear end
at the apex of the turns.....

But I'm tryin', Canman. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd of your car's future tires.

As Joel Goodson's father might have said: " Sometimes you've just gotta say 'What the Heck', and go rub
a BMW driver's nose into it".

Mmmm, I like the look of that Sermey,

I currently do Not have Windshield Washers , This was one of the reasons i changes the Cowl, as someone previous cut 2 tiny square hole in the original cowl, but nothing was there when i bought the Dodge over 8 years ago..

Clive

Those 2 tiny squares are always there, even if you don't have the washer jets.
Instead of making 2 different parts they just made 1 so they can fit them on all cars.

Been really diggin' having everything worked out on my junk, finally (well, almost everything)....

The weather has been absolutely incredible for the last few days, and I have driven the Plymouth every day.

Saturday the little lady and I left out early in the morning for our estate sale / antique store rounds... found a couple of small goodies, and the day ended in a birthday dinner for her downtown and a late night gathering at her brother's place... rolled in a little after midnight in the big beast... she ran and drove flawlessly all day long.

Took a pic at "Dub's Place"... originally the "Dairy Delight when it was opened in the 1950s... she looked right at home.

Funny, when I drive this car, the two most common questions:

"What is it?"

and,

"Is it okay if I take a picture of it?"

I oughtta start charging for that last one... I could be making bank...

Wow... third reply in a row... a thread hi-jacker???

No.

Just when you drive your 55 year old car every day in a row for a week after a near 20 year slumber, you have plenty to fix...

I was greeted with an Amps warning light staying on when I switched off the ignition... turns out the generator brushes had worn enough that the lead brush was into the wire...

Removed the generator, installed the set of brushes that I already had in a box, in the car, because I knew they needed to be done (don't judge me) and reinstalled the generator. The whole deal didn't take 20 minutes.

Can you tell which ones are the new ones and which are the old ones???

I am HAPPY DANCING all over the place because I recently took delivery of some super-stylin' Deluxe Roof Trim for my DeSoto!

It took some searching, but a fellow FL-er had the trim up for grabs. And it is in FAB condition! Yipee!

Happy happy, joy joy!
