Today (evening) I put together my Carter AFB 2797S carburetors (1959)
First I go to glass blasting but not this time only cleaning house and zinc plated in yellow and black all parts.
Put the new rebuilt Carter to the engie this week end.

I took mine out for a drive yesterday. It was a nice day so I uncovered it and took it out. It was sitting for a month so I decided it needed to be driven

Thanks Sven
I change carburetor to the "new" after I drove the car out of the garage. Is always a risk of leakage of gas when the test starts. Someone fire, I would not have in the garage

underneath the field grime, I think you may be right, Neil! Wonder how it will look & and work on the little ALUM Offy? Anyone know offhand if the stock two barrel air filter base of a 55-56 Dodge will fit the circle of the 4 barrel Carter? I don't have a parts listing handy.

FURY - 2009-03-01 11:28 PM

I piled myself, Michelle and 3 friends into the Fury, and took a spin over to a buddy's house in the afternoon, drank a few beers while looking at his 58 Fury and 2 Cadillacs in the garage (1 an Eldorado Biarittz Convertible...), called into a local restaurant on the way home, sat outside in the Autumn evening and ate our meals 4 feet away from the Fury. Coming up 600 miles on the clock now, and it's really starting to feel like driving a brand new car rather than a bunch of bolted together parts! Just started to rain as we pulled into the driveway at home, after a great day out in the sun!
Glenn.

Looks great afternoon, Nice Cars

Beautiful door panel, Jon.

Is that the Imperial crest in the dark red fabric?

Are you planning on bringing this car to the convention in St. Elmo this summer? (hope so!)

Did the semi-annual brake fluid fill test--perfecto--and installed some new yummy 20/50 Valvoline Racing, and a new
cannister (OEM, drop-in style) oil filter.

Didn't do anything to my car today, but sure did something for my car!!

I picked these guys up at FedEx:

Brand new Goodyear Custom Super Cushion 750X14 2 1/4 whitewall tires!!

Ordered them from Kelsey Tires last week. I've had WONDERFUL service from Kelsey Tires all the way: friendly and helpful staff, good prices, excellent communications, just a great experience and I warmly recommend doing business with them.

Now I can't wait to try my car with its new shoes on!

That will be the biggest thing you have done to your car this decade! They look great and handle as the car is designed to. I love my Goodyear Custom Super Cushions!! (Does it show...?)

Well at the risk of sparking up the age old debate about original equipment versus "better" equipment (that is usually manufactured in China) from a few members, I can honestly say that these tires handle exactly how I want them to, and look exactly like the tires that Chrysler installed on these cars on the production line, and that is all I am after. I have had mine up to 100mph and they have not flown apart and killed me yet...

I changed the plugs and plug wires on my 1956 Royal Lancer

My Dodge waiting to be worked on

The engine bay which will get a nice detailing soon

The old plugs. I have a feeling they were in there a while. I don't think number 5 was firing much

One of the plug boots. They pretty much all looked like this

Wires shouldn't stand on thier own should they?

The old set totally gone and replaced

Thanks! Me too! The car actually belongs to my father in law but he has given it to me to take care of and be it's custodian. I love the car though. It had 25K on it and is all original. It was featured in Classic Car a couple years back.

Today I had a new exhaust on the Royal Lancer. I love the sound of it. It's a little louder than I was hoping for but it does sound good. It's quiet going down the road but gets louder when you jump on it. It's tucked up nice and high. The old one was kind of low on the drivers side and would sometimes hit on the ground going over big bumps.

Thanks! Yes I have been unable to source proper gas tank straps so I could really use them. I have been replacing all the little items that are just old on the car.I've already done battery and starter cables, transmission pan gasket, new speedo cable. The trans shift cable is leaking so I need to try and put some shrink wrap on that or just replace it. I also need the flexible line from the fuel pump to the frame rail hard line.

Picked up my car a couple of days ago with the Super Cushions on, new rear shocks, a repainted engine bay and a couple other knick knacks done. What a great difference these tires make: great handling, no more jerking around from left to right in the crevasses on the road like my old BF goodrich did.

Engine bay and tires look great soiouz! Nice job. Are you going to put engine stickers back on it? I am hoping to do mine up like that this summer. I would probably at least clean up the engine bay sometime next week. I will be on vacation so why not.

Last night I cleaned all my windows, gave it a good vacuum, polished the chrome, and a wipe down with the quick detailer. I was invited to be in the Memorial Day parade with it so I want to make sure it's looking spiffy.

Thanks for the good words!

As for stickers, there were never any stickers on this engine originally, except the air cleaner one, which is still present. So it will all stay as you see it now!

David, you should inflate your new tires to at least 32 psi.

David, you should inflate your new tires to at least 32 psi.

What?? You inflate your tires more than the max recommended load?

As my car is now, the tires are inflated to the load recommended by the factory in both the Shop Manual and the Owner's manual. Since they used these same tires, I assumed this was the way to go, but I might be wrong.

Care to explain why you would put more pressure into them?

When in doubt; whip it out; Uncle Tom, that is.

I wasn't even gonna mention driving the car for a couple hundred miles before
balancing the tires/wheels.

For heaven's sake, Neil, you could have spared me the "[Heavy sigh]..." crap!!

...anyway, the McCahill stuff is interesting, I had read it before on this site.

No harm done, Mr. Vedder. I'll print these McCahill papers out. Thanks for posting.

I happen to run 42psi in my Diamondbacks, but they're max-rated to 65psi (!).

I'm having major SEPARATION ANXIETY because I took my Desoto to the shop to stay until all of the work that I want done on it, is done.

I'll MISS my old car! (Although I do have visitation rights. )

I'll get to do some of the work myself, but I know my limits.

One pic shows my car with Lee, the amazing upholsterer extraordinaire, and self-described "Mopar Guy".

The other pic shows the shop's very fine collection of Porsches. Wowza.
