Took mine to the mechanics for bearing and manifold repair and new brakes. Hopefully she'll be fixed and ready for summer cruising. I'm so ready!

Thanks, JT Vincent!

Well, as "The Mask" said......"Hang on to yer lug nuts! It's time for an overhaul!"

Not really! Just improving a few systems here and there, unless I get totally carried away.

Bought a new gas tank (from ebay) to my Windsor. (the old one was nothing wrong but had an ugly dent)
New tank was delivered in silver color. But I want it more like "Galvanized = gray speckled) complement the top with graphite gray and another slilver and some gold color.
Was much better. Some want lots of shine on his gas tank but I prefer a little duller color.
The new fuel tank has not exactly written sheet metal pattern

On Sunday, a very sunny day - I did a short 15 mi trip to warm up the oil in the engine. Back at the storage building I changed the oil (the third time, each time after 360 mi). I noticed that the amount of sludge in the oil pan is much lower now. I keep going on with this procedure.

Happy Motoring!

Hi Matt
What fun you been over to our neighbors
Well I was out and test the brakes tonight in Stockholm. Last Friday of every month is cruising. Meet a lot of tourists who wanted to know more why there were so many U.S. classic cars in town. Many tourists from the United States was fun. Here a card when it was time for gasoline.

With the shortness of Summer in Scandinavia, I'd think that EVERY day/night would be for Cruising around!

Why wait for a FRI?

Yeah, tell them Yank tourists what they're missing out on, back home (driving a FWDLK'er)!

Will the Dodges be used, like that Imperial was, in the Fiat commercial?

Can't believe that they wouldn't be, as there is no relationship of the Finned Dinosaurs to the Modern Appliances.

Is that copper brake line tube there? I believe copper brake line tubing has been outlawed in this country. Just curious if it is still legal to use over there.

Took my 55 Plymouth to its first cruise night on Monday. Brought my son and wife and had a great time. Just love having it on the road. Sorry, forgot the camera, but my son got his first taste of the attention these cars get. Priceless and hopefully will spark his interest - he is 14 and I keep hoping. Many people taking a look at the car - very cool. Best part was I ended up getting to park next to my buddy who did most of the work getting my car road worthy. He looked like a proud father in the delivery room.

I installed the restored radiator (the soldering on top of the outlet tube corroded, was not existent anymore), new coolant hoses and a 180 degree Mr. Gasket big block thermostat. Now the coolant circuit doesn't leak anymore, the engine reaches the operating temperature sooner and runs slightly hotter now. The needle of the gauge is between E and M of TEMP most of the time.

I just got a mail from my landlord to quit working at my Chrysler in his barn... So I'll have to find a new place to do small repair jobs and change of the oil.

Happy Motoring!

Front shocks, new oil pump, and changed the collector gaskets.
Next is the header gaskets themselves as these seem to be leaking.

Took a 370km roundtrip with my '57 Chrysler to the German MoparNats this saturday.
Found out the car didn't get more then 9.5 MPG on the highways... Yikes.

Time for some serious carb-tuning, maybe rearaxle ratio change, or even an overdrive transmission.

Took another 410km (255mile) roundtrip today with the '57 and it now averaged 15mpg.
Not bad for just a jet-change in the carb.

Volvo 240/740/940 was factory equipped with copper brake lines, also still in 1991 the 240 was considered the safest automobile in the U.S., by the DMV.

Was at Audi today for a service of the work-scooter (A4). Talked to a fried about this - they still use the copper brake lines for repairs. That said, I have also talked with a plumber about this - he claims that the copper of today is far from the older quality. They have had many copper breakages and leaks in the bends, even if they use the proper toolings. It's all about thinner wall gauga AND recycled copper.

As copper is smooth to work with, I can understand why many likes it - it's also corrosion free. Copper might break due to vibrations though.

Does anyone know why copper was outlawed in the USA?

Copper was outlawed for exactly that reason - vibration related stress cracks... I'd never use it on a car myself. NASA never uses it either.

The SAAB 9000 was rated the safest car in the US for a number of years in the '90s... as the owner of 3 x Volvo 240s and also a SAAB 9000 and 4 x 900s that was a matter of extreme interest.

I took the 58 Chrysler convertible to Jon, (JMC Performance). for a tune up.

It would ocassionally miss, especially when warm.
The guy I bought it from said the plugs were probably the same ones
that were in it at the junkyard, (about 36 years ago).
Same with the plug wires, points, condensor rotor, cap, etc.

I also told Jon it appeared that the fuel pump was leaking.

Well He tuned her all up. Jon is AMAZING!
He even had the correct fuel pump for the 392 hemi, in stock
(the one with the glass bowl that (the car did not have fefore),
as well as plugs, cap, wires, etc.

I can't wait to get her back tomorrow, (Thursday Aug 22) and see
how she runs!

Later.

Gary

Keep in mind that the copper they are likely talking about is not pure copper that is outlawed in the US. No one should be building high pressure brake lines out of pure copper. It is illegal for a reason - it is too soft and will fatigue in the long term. But, people have come up with a copper-nickel alloy that will hold the pressure and doesn't corrode. That stuff is legal and is actually better to use because it has no chance of corrosion. It uses 10% nickel and has the same tensile strength as steel tubing. Remember that Monel is a copper-nickel super-alloy, but has 67% nickel; so this type of alloy has a lot of potential with increasing nickel content. Check out this website:

Over the weekend:
Ripped all the crap carpet and warped cardboard out of trunk. Cleaned/vacuumed trunk. Inserted (much nicer) rubber mat. Didn't replace cardboard.
Got rim from Big M, dropped it off at tire store for spare (with metal valve stem).
Cleaned paint twice, put on fresh wax. Polished all brightwork.
Took "spring clip" off gas cap door - door wasn't closing flush. Door flush without it, will attach magnetic strips to help keep it closed while in flight.
Registered car, installed license plates front and back after figuring out how to do it without brackets.
Touch up paint on roof a bit.

Well, and (Please don't read this Doc D), we took both cars to a car show Sunday.

Wife looked "Kewl" cruising the 59 Dodge vert down the freeway, top down, (Car top, Not hers!!!)

She was moving that baby on down the road, I had to Step on the 392 Hemi in the Chrysler to keep up with her!!!!

We had a great time, I probably shouldn't do this, (Ya know the anti show group will be displeased), but for you "afficianados"
and you guys that just like to see forward look cars, (no matter where they are), here's a couple pictures for you guys!

Enjoy!

Didn't really win, "per se", Neil.
They always try to give trophys to cars that have not been there
or received a trophy before.
Kind of a "Comemmerative thing about the show, I guess?

I did enjoy meeting the guy with the 56 Plymouth. It has a "flattie six"

He is an "ex cop", really nice guy.

He wanted to buy the Chrysler, I told him I've waited 10 years for that car
and it AIN"T for sale!!!

No, in fact I haven't even named the Dodge Convertible.

I am thinking about a special license plate for it, R 58 Hemi

U have any ideas for names?

Thanks for the kind words Sven and Fin Me.

As usual forwardlookers are always invited here, and "You Can pick the Ride"

Just got back from a local car cruise in...there were also a couple of '58 Imperials & a '60 Dodge (Phoenix, I think?) that hadn't seen the light of day for over 5 years...sorry no pics

BTW NO Trophy's either

Gary I'd find out how many NY'er verts were made (you probably already know this, from A.), and I'd
have the plate refer to where yours might fall in the build, or maybe just say 1 of X.

NY in 58 is sorta Kool.

According to Aivar, there were 666 New Yorker Convertibles built in 1958.
Aivar had 2 that were 7 serial numbers apart.

It is interesting that Aivar found this car on "Route 66", (Apple Valley), Calif.

Maybe I should name her "Seis Seis"?

Aivar had his 59 CRL plated US in 59

The more I think about it, the more I like NY in 58

Tells you about the car (if you think about it/observe it, and the plate raises a question about the "NY" to others) and its YOP.

Got the other head off the F...doesn't look to bad in there...but motor still will not turn over. Got the car in position to remove the rest of the exhaust, drop the gas tank, and driveline....

Over the weekend took out severely warped package tray cardboard and replaced with masonite.
Re-glued vinyl to the masonite, smoothed things out.
Looks half way good, much to my surprise.
Separate thread in Body/Interior category.
