Expert Posts: 2596 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | Bought a new gas tank (from ebay) to my Windsor. (the old one was nothing wrong but had an ugly dent) New tank was delivered in silver color. But I want it more like "Galvanized = gray speckled) complement the top with graphite gray and another slilver and some gold color. Was much better. Some want lots of shine on his gas tank but I prefer a little duller color. The new fuel tank has not exactly written sheet metal pattern (DSC_0345.jpg) (DSC_0351.jpg) Attachments ---------------- DSC_0345.jpg (33KB - 323 downloads) DSC_0351.jpg (62KB - 320 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1530 Location: ZH, Switzerland | On Sunday, a very sunny day - I did a short 15 mi trip to warm up the oil in the engine. Back at the storage building I changed the oil (the third time, each time after 360 mi). I noticed that the amount of sludge in the oil pan is much lower now. I keep going on with this procedure. Elite Veteran Posts: 664 Location: Wales, Wisconsin | Took my 55 Plymouth to its first cruise night on Monday. Brought my son and wife and had a great time. Just love having it on the road. Sorry, forgot the camera, but my son got his first taste of the attention these cars get. Priceless and hopefully will spark his interest - he is 14 and I keep hoping. Many people taking a look at the car - very cool. Best part was I ended up getting to park next to my buddy who did most of the work getting my car road worthy. He looked like a proud father in the delivery room. John

Expert Posts: 1530 Location: ZH, Switzerland | I installed the restored radiator (the soldering on top of the outlet tube corroded, was not existent anymore), new coolant hoses and a 180 degree Mr. Gasket big block thermostat. Now the coolant circuit doesn't leak anymore, the engine reaches the operating temperature sooner and runs slightly hotter now. The needle of the gauge is between E and M of TEMP most of the time. I just got a mail from my landlord to quit working at my Chrysler in his barn... So I'll have to find a new place to do small repair jobs and change of the oil. Happy Motoring! Dieter

Was at Audi today for a service of the work-scooter (A4). Talked to a fried about this - they still use the copper brake lines for repairs. That said, I have also talked with a plumber about this - he claims that the copper of today is far from the older quality. They have had many copper breakages and leaks in the bends, even if they use the proper toolings. It's all about thinner wall gauga AND recycled copper. As copper is smooth to work with, I can understand why many likes it - it's also corrosion free. Copper might break due to vibrations though. Does anyone know why copper was outlawed in the USA?

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | Copper was outlawed for exactly that reason - vibration related stress cracks... I'd never use it on a car myself. NASA never uses it either. The SAAB 9000 was rated the safest car in the US for a number of years in the '90s... as the owner of 3 x Volvo 240s and also a SAAB 9000 and 4 x 900s that was a matter of extreme interest. Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | I took the 58 Chrysler convertible to Jon, (JMC Performance). for a tune up. It would ocassionally miss, especially when warm. The guy I bought it from said the plugs were probably the same ones that were in it at the junkyard, (about 36 years ago). Same with the plug wires, points, condensor rotor, cap, etc. I also told Jon it appeared that the fuel pump was leaking. Well He tuned her all up. Jon is AMAZING! He even had the correct fuel pump for the 392 hemi, in stock (the one with the glass bowl that (the car did not have fefore), as well as plugs, cap, wires, etc. I can't wait to get her back tomorrow, (Thursday Aug 22) and see how she runs! Later. Gary Edited by 1959Dodge 2013-08-21 1:41 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9699 Location: So. Cal | Keep in mind that the copper they are likely talking about is not pure copper that is outlawed in the US. No one should be building high pressure brake lines out of pure copper. It is illegal for a reason - it is too soft and will fatigue in the long term. But, people have come up with a copper-nickel alloy that will hold the pressure and doesn't corrode. That stuff is legal and is actually better to use because it has no chance of corrosion. It uses 10% nickel and has the same tensile strength as steel tubing. Remember that Monel is a copper-nickel super-alloy, but has 67% nickel; so this type of alloy has a lot of potential with increasing nickel content. Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | Over the weekend: Ripped all the crap carpet and warped cardboard out of trunk. Cleaned/vacuumed trunk. Inserted (much nicer) rubber mat. Didn't replace cardboard. Got rim from Big M, dropped it off at tire store for spare (with metal valve stem). Cleaned paint twice, put on fresh wax. Polished all brightwork. Took "spring clip" off gas cap door - door wasn't closing flush. Door flush without it, will attach magnetic strips to help keep it closed while in flight. Registered car, installed license plates front and back after figuring out how to do it without brackets. Touch up paint on roof a bit.
