There is a new "300B" custom on the show scene.  It made its debut at the Detroit Autorama last weekend.  The car is owned by Nancy Ritzow and is named "Passion".  Rad Rides by Troy in Manteno, IL, built this car.  It is based on a '56 Windsor two door hardtop which the shop found in Arizona for the owner that was very rust free and they added an Imperial grille section to the car to give the 300 look to it.  It was never a rare Letter Car in actuality.  I happened to be visiting Rad Rides a couple of summers ago when they were just getting into this project as the shop is about 15 minutes from one of my son's homes and saw the Windsor and some of the early frame and suspension modification work in progress.  Heckuva show car now.   221 photo documentation of the build is at  http://www.radrides.com/proj.htm if you are interested.

It's beautiful.

The '57 New Yorker-esque trim scheme really works on this car.

I think it would look better with whitewalls, and I don't think the paint colors are terribly flattering. The colors are modern and complex and show-ey, which is everything they should be, but I don't care for them.

BUT

Incredibly well done and thank GOD it's not yet another '55-57 Chevrolet.

I like the colors - kind of a spice brown on the insert and cinnamon for the rest of the body. I had a new 1982 Dodge painted in that color scheme. The front end is somewhat low to my taste, but it really is a good looking car.

I agree with Danny as to the constructiona and appearance, but only from the rockerpanels up. The wheels, in my opinion, detract from the overall effect.Makes it look like a "pimped" ride. Can't really tell, but the roof seems to have a pinkish cast to it. Charcoal and silver would have looked great on that car..............................Walt

Yes, the wheels bring my mind "Mexican" and "low-rider", if it would have custom made 17" original style wheels and whitewalls, it would be perfect. If you follow the link you find how well they rebuild the gauges, nice...Would be nice to know how much the owner had to pay for the billet steering wheel.

Extra points in keeping the styling the same, no chopping etc., just cleaning a bit. I really like the shape, too bad its not black - but anyway I give points of painting it in very understated color.

They really "tubbed" the back didn't they? The billet steering wheel was simply amazing the way they duplicated it from the plastic one that was on the car. I don't care for the wheels either - "Mexican" and "low-rider" as somebody else said.

Of course I am biased, but this is a testement to Virgil Exners design talent. The body lines have not been altered and the top has not been chopped. In keeping with the current style, the wheels are clear up in the fender wells-I don't care for that trend. Looks like they wanted to keep the flavor of wire wheels, but these don't work for me. The craftsmanship is absolutly top notch Any guesses as to the total dollars spent on this car--WOW! ........................MO

It's about time these big name customizers realize Chrysler products are a gold mine!!! I mean how many times can you do up a 57 Chev, Caddy or 32 Ford anyway? Nice car, great colours. I too disagree with the rims but if he wants to win a trophy he needs that size/style - sad.

When I visited Rad Rides I picked up a 1 page price list that gave three basic breakouts of their types of builds lets say from "mild" to "wild".  I don't think I have it around as I didn't plan to be a customer.  This car would have been well beyond their top build class because of all the extras to be a top show contender and therefore I'm going to estimate that it could be anywhere north of $3-400,000 which would be very typical for anything in the top awards categories at these shows where some cars will go to a million as that trophy and prestige mean everything to some people's egos.  Now, having said that, I'll also defend the people who own this car who chose Troy Trepanier to do the car.  Rad Rides is in a very small town and gives maximum "bang for the buck" in quality workmanship because of low overhead.  Troy is a quality person from a quality family very similar to Chip Foose in that sense but doesn't have the incredible design talent and connections that Foose has so Troy has stayed much more under the radar - probably by his own choosing.

Just for comparison and for your information:  In the very early '80s I was a shop manager at a full line high end restoration shop in Southern California.  Our typical full restoration THIRTY YEARS ago topped six figures and we are not talking Duesenbergs as we never achieved that clientele.   I was given the task of trying to sign up a classic car collection who was doing their own cars in their own shop.  AT THAT TIME they were spending between $250,000 and $750,000 PER CAR on their restorations and my sales pitch was that we could do them more efficiently.   Honestly, they were right that we could not deliver the quality they were doing themselves but can you get your head around those prices thirty years ago?

That car would cost $500,000 or more to build, assuming that they didn't make many significant body modifications (it looks like they did not). The Ridler contenders consistently cost around $1million each to build, but every part of them is scratch built or modified significantly in some way.
