| I have a 57 Plymouth Suburban 2 door wagon that spent most of it's life in the Arizona desert, so far all of the wiring works but it's a cracked dry mess just waiting to go poof! Does anyone sell a correct replacement harness (I'd replace all of it if available from front to back).

Yes, I called they have the dash forward harness ($695.00 - OUCH!) and can make a tail lamp harness using mine as a pattern for another $200+.
This project is getting expensive!

Location: Auckland, New Zealand. | I had one made by Greg Leggatt in Canada. His reproductions are concours quality (he is a concours car judge).
They come complete with installation instructions, correct lengths, each single wire is tagged showing what it fits onto, color coded wires are as the factory intended, every single terminal connection and cover is as the factory used.
I am a fussy bugger, and I was more than satisfied with his work!!!
I think I paid US$495, about 5 years ago. Mine is now installed and fully functional, and there have been zero problems, and it looks like the day the factory made it.

Location: Twin Falls, Idaho | I got mine from Greg Legatt also. I think his can run as high as $700 to $800 if you have power windows, power seats and a/c. He starts at a base and then you add on the options you need and the price changes accordingly. They are great harnesses and everything has the right connectors on the ends and is also labeled for where it goes.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand. | Quite possibly. My Fury is low on electric options, therefore is probably on the lower side of cost. Obviously more options equals more wiring equals more cost.

Location: Northern North Carolina | Ebay always has wiring harnesses, but they may be crap (just adding the info anyway so you'll know your options). I'm guessing that if the Ebay ones were any good, someone here would've mentioned that. May be ok though if your car is pretty basic/few power options. |

| I haven't recieved my harness from Greg yet but it's paid for, just waiting for the mailman to show up with it. He charged me $705.00 for a complete harness headlights to tail lights. My wagon is a low option base model, a radio and a dome light is about all it has other than main engine & dash functions. I am a believer in replacing any wiring that's so old, it's too easy to get a short/fire or to lose a generator if you get a bad ground, etc. Expensive up front but cheap insurance in the long run.

| It arrived today, looks awesome and labled well. It's ALLOT of work ahead to install though, quite a few connections to make. I will be taking the dash out to do it on the bench, no way I want to tackle this job on my back wedged up under the dash. Any local volonteer help offerings will be accepted....Free Beer!

Location: Detroit MI area | Greg does quality work, even installing new light bulbs in the sockets. A couple of things-
Take good photos before you start.
I'd leave the labels on the wires until everything checks out.
Greg used to suggest powering up the new system with a battery charger first. I think he mentions a 7-10 amp setting. The test each component separately. If there's a problem you don't want the full battery pushing juice into the system.
Tie wires to one end of the old tail light harnesses before you pull it out of the wagon's quarter panel and across the tail of the car. With wagons its a heckofalot easier to pull the new harnesses in.
The firewall grommet and grommets at the tail light end are often toasted. Gary Goers sells replacements.
Watch that the wire routing isn't within the handbrake and brake pedal travel
Figure on an extra days work to play with all the stuff you normally can't get at. Like checking the wiper pivots, cleaning the gauges, playing with the trans buttons and general housekeeping.
I can't believe how bad my old harness was when it was removed. Wires had been cut, patched, melted and petrified. The car never would have been right with that old harness.
Greg claims there's a heck of big difference when you first see the lights come on at night!

OOPS! Too late for that, I had to send him the tail lamp harness to copy as he didn't have a pattern and I had no idea what I was getting into until it was almost out of the car. Oh well, I'll figure it out somehow. Thank you for the other tips! |

I wish I was near you to help. I installed my '59's dash/engine compartment harness with the dash in place. It was a three hour job. I was quite proud of myself until the next day, when I woke up with a stiff neck and a VERY SORE lower back.

Location: Ny | This may sound like a stupid question, but I honestly dont know, so I will ask.
I am definetely going to replace the wiring harness in the 55 desoto. Will a 12V conversion matter in chosing a wiring harness? Will I need to let mr Leggatt know if I am planning on upgrading to 12V in the future? There are other important things to consider as far as mechanics are concerned on t he vehicle, however I don't want to spend the money for a wiring harness, just to realize I will need a different one when I am prepared to upgrade system.

I won't guess at differences in wiress converting from 6 to 12 volt. I'm sure someone on the list has personal experience with that.
I don't believe Greg does the '55-56 models with the cloth wrapped wires. I've only seen him do the 57 to mid 60's vinyl wire harnesses.

I am quite amazed at the fact that you have all connections made up and even have light bulbs and their sockets provided.
I ordered a full wiring harness kit from Greg Leggat in 2006 for my car, but I think it came without all those.
I'll look into it this evening, but I'm almost sure it does not have light bulbs and sockets (it's not installed yet)
