Manos from Greece sold me a great set of Fibreglass Repro' bumper wings for my '57 Belvedere.
But I secretly yearned for originals.

Far too expensive, I did a search here and discovered an old thread.

I've just bought a set of 4 for my Chrstine project at a very reasonable price after contacting Jon Radue.

Jon's metal wings were a fraction of what I could expect to pay for orignals and Jon supplies them Chromed or un-chromed.
Jon was a big help all the way, supplying measurements for fixing brackets.

Now I haven't seen these wings in person, but Donnie (my car restorer) tells me they are superb!!

I can recomend Jon to anyone needing Bumper wings for a 57/58 Plymouth.

Jon's name here is Black60Fury, or contact him on:

Copied from his original post in 2008....

First off, why is there only one page of threads in each category? Do they just get deleted now, or am I not doing something right? Used to be pages of threads in each category.

Here's a few pics of our new bumper wings at the chrome shop. These are rears, I had posted pics of the fronts a few months back.

Now they're all done and we have a few sets ready to be chromed. We have a rear bumper to fit these to but we still need a front bumper to test-fit our guards to, we want to make sure they fit properly before they're chromed.

If anyone has a front bumper for a 57-58 plymouth, in any condition, I want to buy it. It can be rusted out or bent up, doesn't matter, all we need are the ends off of it to match it up to our new guards. Please email me at 72gtojudge@charter.net

We're going to offer these guards chromed and ready to install (plating by Custom Plating Specialists, excellent show quality work) or just raw and you can have your chrome shop do them. They'll be availible as a complete set, or you can just get fronts, or just rears, or one at a time, whatever you need for your car. You could use these along with originals and you couldn't tell them apart.

This was a much more labor-intensive project than I thought it would be, and cost us more to do than I thought it would. However the thickness, shape, fitment, even mounting is really excellent, I'm quite proud of these. No fiberglass here, the chroming even comes with a warranty. I'm planning to fit a pair to the front of my '60 since I always thought the '60 would look cool with bumper wings.

Price is going to be $650 each professionally chromed, or $450 unplated. Pictures are at the plating shop, they have copper on them but aren't chromed yet. Just took these a couple days ago. Let me know what you think.

They are a spot on reproduction. If you get the one's that are not chromed then you will have to mount the inner brackets yourself as well as make the hole for the bumper bolt.

Jon hasn't stopped by for a while.
I've emailed him a link to this to let him know this thread is here, I think he was revising his prices.
If he doesn't stop by soon I'll dig out the details on what I paid.

Cheers!

I haven't been on here in a while now, but I figured I should log in. The prices are a lot less than they were before. I should be able to do them unchromed for $250 apiece or $500 each professionally chrome plated. I have a '57 in my yard now for fitting and hole/bracket placement but it is best to fit them to the bumpers they will be eventually mounted to before plating to ensure a good fit, so the unchromed ones are kinda the way to go, although the quality of the plating from Custom Plating Specialists is excellent, I know some board members have used them.

I can't control the cost of the plating or the casting, and at this price I make very, very little on each one I sell. I'll have to sell a ton of these before I recoup my original investment costs. I bought out my partner and I'm trying to just do this myself now, I know a lot of people were worried about how high the prices were so I did all I can to get them down. I'm doing the best I can. Please disregard the prices quoted in my original posting.

I've got some fronts ready to go and I can make more any time, so if anyone is interested please email me at 72gtojudge@charter.net If you have some originals and just need one or two to fill in a set I can do that too, and they should be impossible to tell apart when chromed and mounted. I don't plan on making a ton of these, or mass marketing them, I'm just doing them on a per-order basis. And I WILL be modifying at least one set for use on my '60, originality be darned.

Thanks to Lee and Donnie for the good word.

Yea, I would leave mine unplated and have the entire bumper and wings plated together, so that the chrome matches. There is a lot of variation in color from batch to batch at the same chrome shop, much less across different shops.

Good to see you here, Squablow.

Jon, I can honestly tell you that is a helluva deal on the metal wings fully chromed...I can't even get rough originals repaired/plated for that...Thank you so much for offering a cheaper alternative for the '57-'58 Plymouth's....If I haden't had mine already done, I'd be puttin' in an order myself...You have done what was long thought impossible...My hats off to you.....

Just to add that Lee got his rear wings already chromed and I must say they are perfect.

Danny, you are CORRECT on the chrome not matching. When I Got the Belvy, both bumpers were re-chromed. Years before I bought the Belvy, I had a set of wings hromed, and put away.

Got the convt, got the wings out and couldn't put them on. NIGHT and DAY differnce!

Radue. Yer wings got to be perfect, to get aproval from "Cooter" there! LOL

Ah,,,,,,. Cooter, I thought you were refering to Radue's procedure on MAKING the wings,,,,,,,,. Compaired to ALL of the OTHER wing ventures. NOT the chroming process. Sorry.

What's the count now. Out of,,,,, (how many said they were gonna re-popp wings, because of the high ebay prices,) those have succeded? TWO?

The fiberglass ones, and Jon Radue's.

Radue started his wing venture, BEFORE Fearless opened up the new web site. 6, or 7 years ago? If I remember right, Radue was the 2nd or 3 rd person who seriously attempted to re-popp the '57, 8 wings. Took this long.
All one has to do, is search the old web site archives, it's right there.

I'll brag a little about Radue's FwdLk venture, he has hidden in the dark reaches of his garage confinds, along with a couple of '50's styled sleds. That goes hand-in-hand with his mechanical abilities of wing making.

You '60 Ply gurus. See that black Fury 4-door in his 'signature'?
Well, by doin' some 'beer can' measuring, he found out it's almost a bolt in,,,,, er,,,, spot weld in,,,,,,,,, Well, let's say he has a one of none, 1960 Ply FURY, TWO-door, SEDAN!!

NO he did NOT take the Fury trim and change a Savoy/Belvy 2-door sedan. He took the 4-door FURY and MADE IT a 2-door sedan!

Anyway.

I just spoke with my Chromer and I will be picking up a batch of parts in the morning. The chromer I use is Knox Custom Chrome and they have been in the business for 40+ years. These boys are good and done't put out anything that they can't make perfect and is going to last. That being said I would like to relay what he said.

With the material these wings are made of they are VERY heavy. Way more heavy than a stock one and much thicker. A great deal of work had to be done to the seams to ensure they won't crack and the surface had to have an even greater deal of prep work done to ensure a flawless surface. The result was an additional $200 fee above the first estimate and that was for only 2 wings.
On my second order I am expecting an additional $400 fee ($100 per wing) due to this. The chromer also added "It would be more easy to fix and repair stock steel wings with rust holes"
This is not a reflection of the wing itself because with as rare as stock one's are if you want them this may be your only route. I just wanted to share my experience with having them chromed and what the chromer's opinion was
