Does anyone have a photo of the transmission end of a 413 crankshaft-early 59-61 and/or the later version? I am planning to look at what has been described as a 62 date coded 413, with the early crankshaft. I would like to get some feedback on what to look for. I know that the earlier cranks are shorter than the later ones, but since I have never seen either, I don't know what to look for.

Anyone have an opinion as to the possibility that a date coded 62 block would have come from the factory with the earlier crankshaft?

Thanks,

Ray

My 62 Sport Fury was a 413 car with the early trim and had the later style crank however it was a MW car.

The early 413 crank had the extended flange crank..Starting in 1962, Chrysler started making the NON extended flange crank engines for use with the newer Aluminum 727....As far as the outside? Looks about identical to a 426 MW or 440...I think I got a '62 413..But had the later crank I think..

If memory serves me correctly, the early crank is 8 bolt, while the later is mostly six bolt. Also, the holes in the early crank are not threaded. The early flywheel and torque converter had studs and was attached with nuts on the engine side of the crank flange. The later flywheels and flex plates were attached with bolts that threaded into the crank flange.

In the pic below the upper crank is the pre-'62 with the extended flange, it has 8 non-threaded holes. The lower is the '62 and later with threaded holes (6 for the wedge and 8 for the Hemi). The '62 and later also has a raised register to index the flywheel/converter, the earlier flywheel indexes off of the outside of the flange.

Thanks to everyone. I now feel as if I can make an informed decision. I have been burned too many time in the past by trusting the seller.
